I know most people had found Jon's powers to be kind of underwhelming but I find it cute how these murderers possessed with dangerous powers just spill their secrets like it's therapy.

Powers that don't seem strong at first glance are my favorite, because the applications can be very creative. What if Jon had a radio show where he asked the listeners to share their stories? Everyone would be compelled to tell their secrets. On one hand, all crimes would be solved as long as the culprit or witnesses heard the show and were in a position to communicate, but on the other society may collapse.

Mike’s affable, but there was something wrong with his moral compass even before he became an avatar. His offhandedness about his parents’ deaths and his willingness to kill in search of Leitners is chilling.

I think that before becoming an avatar, these people are sort of gradually led to act like one before a final “transformation” (seems to be a death and subsequent revival). Jude Perry liked matches, scented candles and petroleum before her “change.” She started off just destroying her own life, then she gradually became compelled to destroy others’. This finally culminated in her transformation into an avatar after dying. I think Mike died when he jumped too and came back to life. It started as a small inclination towards the sky, led on by the lightning strike, and gradually the Vast’s hold on him got stronger and stronger until he died and became an avatar. This makes me wonder though… that guy who died way back in earlier statements surrounded by fractals. Was he really dead?

@Julie Kavanagh I believe it is an illusion or s direction correlation the Evil Eye. The idea is that there is a curse cast by a malevolent being on an unassuming victim causing misfortune, misery, injury, or even death. The legend is prevalent is many cultures, especially Mediterranean and Middle Easter/West Asian. They need a nice Jewish bubbie to give them all those blue eye talismans. My mother would gladly elect herself. She loves Martin.

Loved this episode! The Vast is probably favourite "power." It doesn't feel as overdone as some of the other fears/horror tropes. Too bad that we only got to hear Michael Crew once, but now I'm really looking forward to the episodes with Simon Fairchild.

I think it's the Archivist. By now it's established that everytime Jon asks you something you have to answer. The tapes just turn on by themselves when there's something juicy worth recording, but they don't seem able to force anyone to do anything.

Something I realized: Jon's knife that Daisy was going to use to slit his throat with was remarked to be blunt. Why? Because when Michael stabbed Jon, Jon told everyone that he had hurt himself with a breadknife. But Martin thought Jon was hurting himself, because he said he doesn't trust Jon with knives. Which makes me think that Martin dulled Jon's knife so that he couldn't hurt himself. Which would mean that Martin saved Jon's life because Daisy couldn't cleanly cut his throat here before Basira showed up. God, so many incredible details went into this podcast, it is blowing my mind

The episodes concerning The Vast have always been some of my favorites, is it weird that I'm kinda sad that Mike is dead now? Next to the Boneturner Jared, Mike's power is definitely one of the coolest in the series in my opinion. He's so. . . blase about everything that he's done that makes it chilling in a very interesting way. The Fire lady was horrifying because of how much joy she took in it, whereas Mike seems indifferent to it in a strange way.

When I first listened to this episode yesterday I didn't realize that daisy had the blunt knife to Jon's neck around 15:54 (English is not my mother tongue) and it took me an animatic for me to realize that's what happened. My theory from this episode and what we know so far: Oh my, Mike survived so much and yet.. but at least he gave us alot of info. The disease/corruption entity is the Filth. Which makes it even more probable that the episode about the dump was, indeed, about this entity. Mike was indeed marked by the lightning creature, which was a manifestation of the Spiral probably because it wanted for Mike to become a part of it, but he didn't feel like he was resonating with it so he was searching for something else. And that's how he found the Vast through the "From the heights" book and became a part of that entity. It's funny how he didn't remember about the Paris incident but was like "I don't remember it but if you say so, it sounds about right, yeah" :P. (From now on, instead of keep saying "the vast entity", "the spiral entity" and such, I'll just write them with the first letter capital, like a name, for the ones we have a name for already) The tape recorder starting recording on its own, makes me even more to believe that the tape recorders are not just items, but they're either tied to the Eye or tied to Gertrude (or both 👀)
