“Daisy’s been managing just fine” Daisy had her connection to The Hunt literally severed in the Buried. It’s not a matter of resisting The Hunt for her it’s a matter of not doing anything that will get her reconnected to it. Jon is VERY deep into his connection with The Eye, he can resist it no more than Daisy could’ve before the coffin incident. Their situations right now are not the same.

Yeah, I think this is what's so frustrating with Basira. She's so in love with Daisy she'll forgive anything and use anything as an excuse to wave Daisy around as if she's better than Jon. When it comes to addiction (or any mental health condition, really), there is NO one way to deal with it. It isn't a race, it isn't a competition. It's individual and each person will go through it in their own time. Some people manage out of sheer will; they decide they're done and they quit, no matter how badly they crave it afterwards. Some people need a safety net, a support group, people they can trust and to whom they can go whenever the craving is getting unbearable to go through all by themselves. I think we sure sympathize more with Jon because the story focuses more on his side of it, but I also think that treating the people who became monsters like human is what ultimately makes a difference in how fast they fall under the control of the Entities. Jon turned on Helen; less than a year later she's almost as desensitized as Michael was. The archive assistants turned on Jon; in a matter of months he's so deep in shit he can barely balance the cravings and his own morals. So the cycle continues. And comparing him to Daisy, who she called "dead weight" just a couple of weeks or months earlier, is NOT the argument she thinks it is.

Basira just telling Jon to stop, but also wanting to use Jon just sounds like it will end badly. Telling him to stop is like telling someone to never eat again while food is right in front of them. Eventually the rational mind wont have the energy to stay in control and it gets messy. Not only that, but treating Jon like he isnt human (lol I know he isn't anymore but still.) will just make it easier for him to stop caring. Heck, do that to a human and you get the same result.

@@Ghostrecall_M I haven't continued much further than this point since my comment, so I can reply without spoilers. My wager would be Basira was 100% marked by the Hunt in the past, but a combo of restraint and deskwork (as well as trying to keep Daisy in line) stopped that mark from burrowing deeper. But now she's dealing with a ton of Marked people, all of them requiring the use of their Entity's traits to keep each other safe. The limiters that once kept her at arm's length from the Hunt are gone, and she actively needs to "hunt" to get the job done. Plus its likely she's been marked by the Eye too. I just read this all back and WOW I am rambly. I think I'll come back once I've had my caffiene.

Basira, about what is very much becoming not just an addiction but actually a necessary food source: just stop getting statements from people Basira, not even a _minute_ later when Jon says he gets hungry using his powers: well find a statement then and get eating, creep Basira what the fuck Let's say avatar powers worked like drug addictions, yeah? Because they kind of do. Daisy is "managing" bc her link to the hunt was literally torn out of her, and then severed completely in the buried. Jon is being shoved left and right into using the powers that ultimately make him crave statements even more. Daisy is trying not to fall back into an addiction, while Jon is literally being told to just stop it, while also being told to just get more when he craves it. What the fuck. Comparing someone who's been sober and trying not to start drinking again to someone that's currently addicted to heroin is not at all a fair comparison, especially not when you hand them the needle all the damn time.

Your analogy works best if you imagine a recovering alcoholic compared to someone with an eating disorder. The alcoholic can go cold turkey. Avoid it like the plague and never touch it again. The ED person can't, they need food to survive. So they're exposing themselves to their ED several times per day. The only way to get better is to strictly manage their diet, which typically requires support from friends/family/therapist. Basira is telling Jon to just stop eating. Then when he complains he's hungry, she tells him to go eat. She's THEE most toxic 'friend' someone like Jon can have in his life. I HOPE the explanation behind her behavior is that she's being manipulated by The Lonely, or maybe The Web. If not? She's just straight up a horrible person.

Okay, Basira,s starting to get on my nerves. I didn't really get it when people were saying that under previous episodes, perhaps because she seemed more calm and levelheaded to me (as opposed to Melanie, who's violent outbursts were pretty succesful in making me recoil every time she appeared) but I'm starting now. The way she expects Jon to "just stop, it's not that hard!", like, Basira, darling, baby, sweetheart, would you tell the same to an alcoholic? A drug addict? No, ffs, these kind of things are not something you "just stop doing", they take time, therapy and support that you're unwilling to provide. I NEVER expected myself to like Daisy The ACAB Poster Child, but she's growing on me and she seems the last person who's actually not being shitty to Jon. I think at this point she might actually be his best chance at starting some kind of recovery - like, let them just talk it out, one recovering Avatar to another, she'll understand Though on the other hand, I'm starting to get suspicious about whether Daisy's recovery is really going as well as everyone believes it is. Everyone's telling Jon to be more like her, because if she could do it, he can too, and I'm just sitting here, thinking about how much of a punch in the gut it would be if it turned out that this perfect paragon of mental strenght for Jon to aspire to is not, in fact, so perfect. (I know the plot's moved on a while ago, but I just like writing my ramblings, leave me alone)

I honestly got the feeling earlier on that Basira didn't want DAISY back, she wanted back her partner who was willing to do the messy things that Basira believes, deep down, are acceptable to do. Maybe to get a lead, you need to break a wrist. Or maybe you need to Ask. Whatever it is, Basira gets the answer without having to get her hands dirty. When Daisy came back, she wasn't dangerous anymore and she couldn't serve that purpose. She still can't, really, but now Jon can - but Jon's not a cop. He doesn't fall under that deep-down "we do what we have to do and that's acceptable because, in the end, we're right" mindset that Basira has. So he can serve as the compelling force backing Basira up, but without that "legitimacy", when he does it without Basira's permission and her judgement of "ends justify the means", he's a monster.

Basira freaked out by the idea that Elias calling her "Detective" might have implied meanings (maybe she's not as human as she thought) is the real shit. She had to watch every single one of her work mates turn into some level of an Entity's avatar. I'd be freaked out, too, and quite honestly, feeling very skeptical about my own humanity. If EVERYONE is turning into an Entity-linked monster, what makes ME so special I'm not turning into one without noticing either?

Gertrude only read statements after she was already shaking from withdrawal. I'm assuming because she didn't actually want to feed the eye. I figure that fits into why she wanted to burn the archive, and why the other avatars told Jon that he was a better archivist. I don't think she ever got in as deep as Jon has

2 bots? This early? One of them even underwent comment mitosis! Anyway. Onto cryptic episode conjecture. Basira whooping Elias' butt is a mood. I believe Basira's title... "Detective" is similar to Jon's "Archivist" title. Patronage to multiple fears is established already. Daisy is police so she fits the criteria for "Hunter" and now that she is part of the Eye... "Detective" is a fitting title. Now... About surveillance... Eye is about "being watched". To integrate yourself into a surveillance network so you can be *always watching* (Mr Wazowski) fits the Eye's MO. Also... The whole line about "wires wrapping over each other" gives me Web vibes.

Ok im really late to the comments here, but cant help but add this one since no seems to have observed it: Jon ended his conversation with Basira with a carefully thought-out neutral question: "Can I ask what it said?" Because even with his powers Basira could answer 'No' truthfully and leave it at that. Just another sign of how Jon is genuinely trying to be better while no one seems to notice...

Of course Daisy is managing she never was an avatar. Yes she was influeced by the hunt but she did not encarnated nor did she stop being human, she is more alike Elias than John. John is another level of consumed by the fears, he is like Agnes or that Guy who predicted Gertrude death. Both Agnes and End Guy can't control if they see the dead or if they burn you by touching you, plus need feeding of the supernatural kind. John can't control if he sees something in other people's brains and need to feed on others trauma. So please archive gang, treat him as such and give him a hug. Honestly Basira is a complete badass, but if she keeps treating John like that I don't think she is gonna last much longer. Well at least the eye won't be on her side. She survived the undoing by sheer force of will, so she will probably won't go down easly.

Basira putting Jon through the wringer about his connection to the eye and the use of his powers is really frustrating but I understand shes trying her best considering she's basically become the unofficial manager, considering Jon is pretty out of it, Melanie and Daisy are still dealing with their connections with other avatars being severed and both Martin and both of their actual bosses being impossible to actually get a hold of. She's trying to manage so much but definitely going the wrong way about it, I feel sorry for both her and Jon in this situation
