Not given the respect she deserves as one of the mothers of Rock and R&B.

AMEN to that she paved the way for all the other r and b divas she was the first big female r and b singer she had so many hits that Atlantic was known as the house that Ruth built!!!She also paved the way for rock and roll and did this by the way with very little TV exposure back in the fifties blacks were not seen that much on TV not even in sporting events
@LazyIRanch Жыл бұрын
@@johnfulton4921 Her stage presence was perfection. She just didn't stand at a microphone, smile pretty and sing the way most female artists did in the day. She made the audience feel every word of her songs! A deaf person could watch this and understand what this song's about. Didn't hurt that she was absolutely gorgeous and charming, and that dress is to die for! I love that she had a big comeback in the 80s on Broadway and won a well-deserved Tony.

I discovered this song by accident by combing You Tube. I couldn’t believe it. I thought wow this is fantastic! I had never heard this song before. Lo and behold most every KJ has it in their library of songs. It’s a big hit because it just grabs the people plus it’s something they haven’t heard a million times. I’m so glad you posted it and that I found it.
@elainesmith75124 жыл бұрын
@Paula Lane: I remember this song when I was a little girl in the middle 1950s because my oldest sister, who was in her twenties, would listen to it on the radio and play it on our family's record player. This brings back good memories because it brings back memories of my sister who passed away in 1979 and I still miss her.

It’s baffling that this song went into obscurity because it’s so fantastic. Some people of course remember it, but there’s so many people that are unaware of this song’s existence.

this is a jazzed up version of Ruth's original recording which is fabulous and slower. I think she was advised to make these original recordings much faster and with a bigger band which was okay but those original Atlantic recordings used smaller ensembles and were much more intimate and fun.

I don't know the year it was recorded but I have a feeling that we can listen where the Little Richard's falsetto came from, we also can have some clues about from who he got the inspirations for his face and eyes "manerisms" and we even can see from who he took inspiration for his hair style. If there is some truth in my feelings, I think that aesthetically Rock and Roll owes a lot to her. Too bad that until today I never heard nor read anything about her. On the other hand, too good that now I start to learn about her existence and music. All the best from Brazil. 🎼
