This is Ruth Wallis' only appearance on Australian TV. Ruth Wallis appeared on the "Mobil-Limb" Show (circa 1964). Bobby Limb was the Australian Johnny Carson, he hosted the first nationally broadcast variety show "down under". Typecast as the "saucy chanteuse", Ruth Wallis music was banned from airplay, her records were confiscated at Mascot Airport when she arrived in Australia. In love with the Australian people, she wrote this "straight" Australian Anthem "She'll be Apples".

Just discovered this wonderful woman today. Someone really needs to do a play or even better a movie about her. The wider world needs to know the name Ruth Wallis.

Just recently discovered Ruth here on youtube, what a treasure. "Tonight For Sure!" is probably my favorite. Unfortunately, so many true innovators receive their recognition belatedly.

Thanks for posting that. Mrs Wallis was a great performer, she may have sang mostly "novelty" songs but if you listen carefully you can hear that she was a serious vocal talent.

5 Years ago,My 80 something year old neighbor was moving and he knew I was into records. He asked if I wanted them and there were tons of 78s. I got quite the surprise when I stumbled on the Ruth Wallis 78s. They were my favorite records I later went on ebay and bought what I could from by her. Ruth Wallis is amazing

Just discovered the great Ruth Wallis while listening to Uncle Floyd (Vivino) on his wonderful Sunday morning radio show, Garage Sale Music. He played one of her hilarious hits during his “Songs That No One Has Ever Requested” segment. Thank you Uncle Floyd for giving these extremely talented but forgotten artists the attention and praise they deserve.😢

Hello "nydeco" - I'm always pleased to hear that Mom's music lives on. Which recording did he play? Can ;you give me details on Uncle Floyd's show - I would love to contact him and see if I can provide him with recordings that he doesn't have. Thanks again for your kind remarks. Best, Alan Pastman

Hi Alan, I’m not sure of the title but I reached out to the show and will get back to you. I think your mom was hilarious and very talented. I would like to acquire some of her records myself. The Uncle Floyd Show is a rare throwback to another era of radio and TV Entertaiment. So few left. His real name is Floyd Vivino and he is a true Entertainer. Catch his Sunday morning radio show, 8-11am, on WFDU. Listen online or on the radio at 89.1 FM. Pleasure to hear from you. Angelo Vetrano

I went on WFDU’s website archives and looked up Uncle Floyd Garage Sale Music show. Uncle Floyd played Cowboy Song. Great, smart, and funny. I need to find a copy.

I wish they would ban rap music the way they banned Ruth's recordings.

Hello "Oldies Al" (Good Name). My mother's career started before WWll - It spanned three decades and four continents. The "Saucey Chanteuse's" songs could never be aired on "respectable" media. Mom was very successful in 60"s Australia - they loved her blue double entendre music. Google Ruth Wallis "My Children are My Treasure" to know the full range of her talent. Best, Alan Pastman

Hello Emily: Thank you for your kind words about Mom. This was Mom's only exposure on mainstream media. It is also the only live video that I know of. God, I wish I had video of her cabaret performances. Far from her cabaret persona, this is the only proof I have of the multi-dimensional Ruth Wallis. Although her music ran the gamut from jazz to ballads and calypsos, she became known for her "saucy" double entendres, understanding that suggestiveness is sexier than blatancy. Typecast as a risque singer, radio stations and major record companies eschewed her. Her songs were banned in Boston during the Eisenhower era, and Australian customs confiscated her records. My mother's music has received more notice since her passing than during her 30 years onstage. Thank you again for your kind words, Best, Alan Pastman

+Alan Pastman Ruths' music was so much fun. Believe it or not as a young gay teenager in the 80s her fun gay themed songs were a favorite, she was the first one I heard sing about homosexuality that wasn't crude, she was fun. Plus, I enjoyed that she wasn't vulgar she was fun.

Hi Alan, I heard your mum for the first time in the movie ‘Stage Mother’ during the closing titles. I had such a smile on my face…it was so ahead of it’s time. A wonderful song, without judgement, about a Gay man. The fact it still stands strong in 2021 is such a credit to her. I’m playing her on my radio broadcast next week! Cheers from Downunder !
