Fun fact - there are 13 places called “Tarbet” (or various spellings of that name) in Scotland and all of them are at a low lying isthmus between two bodies of water. Because the name derives from the Gaelic words for “carry across” - so “carry (the boat) across (here)”.

@@ruthaisling During the period when the northern and western islands were ruled by the Norwegians they claimed the southern portion of Kintyre, as they could move a boat across the isthmus. So obviously it was an island not part of the mainland! It is a long drive down to Southend. Campbeltown Airport was RAF Machrihanish.

Thanks Ruth; i went recently in early May in great weather after your recommendations. Gobsmacking and underrated part of Scotland for sure..... lets not make it too popular tho lol 😀. The windy road up to the light house is very challenging as you say especially when the early evening sun is low and nearly blinding you like when i drove there.... but so lucky there was no on coming traffic at the time. The drive on the smaller road up to and beyond Carradale overlooking Arran is stunning, but again quite winding.

Loved your wee story regarding the lighthouse, I had a similar experience when in the middle of nowhere I discovered Todhead Point Lighthouse on the East Coast (half hours' drive north of Gourdon). Sadly, it was being dismantled, but the two workers from the Lighthouse Service very kindly let me have a (free rein) look around. Great video. The shopping you bought from Tesco's struck me as being a bit pricey, you just seemed to get a few basic items. I do like their unsweetened almond drink, which was in the clip. They have just announced record profits, and the prices just seem to keep increasing , so I signed a petition calling on them to reduce them a bit, instead of all the money going into the pockets of a few people at the top! All best wishes. ❤

Very Interesting, especially since I am off to Inverness in two days. Your vids made me realize how much of Scotland we have not seen, although I have been many times before, and this is my 3rd Fall trip in the last three years. I live in Nashville, Tennessee, and there are a lot of Scotch and Scotch Irish descendants in Tennessee, I have been trying to trace my Scottish roots (39%), but am finding it fairly difficult. I am also a Mayflower descendant, from my Dad's side, and that was a lot easier to research. Anyway, I have subscribed to your channel, and realize my daughter and I need to come to Scotland in the summer , rent a car, and drive around more. I do business in London, however, and always have to include some time there, and I am afraid of London in the summer, as most of the places I rent have no a/c. We have missed the tourist season this year, due to work schedules, so the tours of Cawdor Castle were closed. I am a retired English teacher, so Cawdor Castle was a must if possible, We have scheduled a private tour. Expensive, but I think it will be worth it. Anyway, I will continue to watch your videos.

I managed a Bank in Campbeltown and we had a Bank van which visited a few of the little villages surrounding Campbeltown offering banking services for locals so I know the area well. Thanks for watching from Indonesia, I'd love to visit more of Indonesia someday, I always see videos on Instagram and it looks so beautiful. I've only ever visited Bali back in 2015.

I got a good surprise there. The amazing sea food restaurant served “Gravad Lax”!!! I didn’t know that they use the Swedish words for that. Not translated. I know that east Scottish and Swedish have some similar words, but this was new.

On the ferry from Lochranza to Kintyre I asked a Swedish guy ‘how would you describe the view back to Arran’. He used the very word I thought he would use BRAW!

Right! The same word in Scottish and Swedish!

Loved the video :) If you ever head this way again, ignore the signs on the saddell beach estate. I live 10 mins up the road and walk the beach a couple of times a week, you missed a real treat. I also highly reccomend Davaar island which you can only accsess while the tide is out, the artwork in the caves are truly stunning, such an amazing spot. Happy travels :)

Love the videos. A great vision of Scotland. As a Greenokian, I have no excuse for not visiting these places.

I love potato scones. However, you can't buy then anywhere in me so I leaned to make them myself. Another great video Ruth, very interesting. That's what I really love about your videos, there not (just look at this and look at that) you always have a great story and some great information to go with them.

Another great video Ruth, as someone who lives at the north of the Kintyre peninsula, it's great to see it as others see it. Are you showing Tarbert and the Crinan canal in future videos?

Thanks for watching! I don't have plans to at the moment, maybe when I revisit the area again. I'll be visited Gigha in the next video!

Thanks Ruth for showing us Kintyre, I have been thinking of exploring more of it. I also like the Ailsa Craig I can see it from my parkup here at Saltcoats. I am heading back to the wonderful Isle of Arran next week. Have fun.

The view of Ailsa Craig from the Ayrshire coast is just wonderful, I could stare at it all day haha! Have a great time back on Arran!

Ruth - another awesome video showcasing our wonderful country! I'm gradually watching my way through them. Another very quiet island I recommend is Vatersay. You can hike to the abandoned village and the beaches look like the Caribbean. I happened to be there on a warm weekend with people sunbathing on the beach! I'm going to be back in Arran soon with the intention of making a video this time! How do you cut out the wind noise? This is something I haven't managed to do!
