I hate when haters hate the hate. So much hate. Tell us THG how many high picks Canucks have had in the first, second, and third rounds. Luc Bourdon could’ve been great. Rick Rypien RIP. The era where they can tank for a decade is gone. The closest they got to first picks in the first round are the Sedin’s 25 years ago. Since then they’re lucky if they get top 5. Does a locker room have to be Kumbaya? Sports psychology says it will never be fixed in your lifetime. Everyone has to play happy families and buy into the system. Without both it’s toxic and losses follow nevise the greatness isn’t there every game as a cohesive unit who knows the exact right play to make. Move the team to Houston. Find a new ownership group and start working on a new team. Aquilini has been part of the development problem. He’s why I gave up season’s tickets a decade ago. Goalie graveyard. All the chatter? This interview is infuriating. Not only should a senior member of management (or really anyone) not be going to the press about these things, but the knock-on effects are horrific. Either PR wasn't consulted about this, or the PR team at the Canucks needs to be replaced. The myopia in this singular decision is astounding. They have single-handedly slashed any trade value or leverage they held by broadcasting their desperation and their low expectations, while also potentially decimating team morale at the most significant point of turnaround the team has seen in months. It's no wonder, if there is a locker room issue, that it's significantly inhibiting the team's ability to play well, if they're in an environment where the message from the top is very clearly, 'It's doomed.' If I'm Tocchet I'm banning my players from using their phones or looking at the internet. Either this was a conniving attempt by the org to shift blame firmly onto the players, or it was the most poignant demonstration of gross mismanagement we've seen for quite some time.

We finally get a good team and instead of bad luck or bad players, or bad management we have good players who eat at eachother to the point where we’re about to blow this team up and set it back for years. Even THROWING the name Quinn Hughes out there, is embarassing. Quinn is a franchise player. Not just a defensemen who’s elite. This guy is the BEST player the Canucks have EVER had. No disrespect to the 5 numbers we got hanging up in Roger’s but 43 is by far the best we’ve ever had. You pay him whatever and for however long he wants and you find your ways to BUILD a solid team around him. Where are the gms or coaches or even players going into that room and putting petey and miller and whoever else can’t put their attitude away in a room and telling them to figure it out and once the door opens this doesn’t come up ever again. According to an ex- player in the Vancouver market, the story goes that Miller was angry about the contract Pettersson got, due to how much bigger than his it was. He was always hard on Petey, but took it to another level after this, in the name of "holding him accountable". It got so bad that it was borderline abusive, at which point Tocchet stepped in, this led to Miller arguing with Tocchet, then the team put him on leave for a while. The reason it keeps flaring up is because Miller hasn't changed his opinion on Petey, and Petey won't forgive him for being so hard on him all the time.
@pjpredhomme7699Күн бұрын
That all rings true - I we are the same age - but even so I don't think Miller would want to get too agressive stepping to Rick Tocchett - Old school is old school.
@blackhawks9763Күн бұрын
That’s 100% bs. The reason Miller was off was because an injury had been bugging him. I’m sure Pettersson pissed him off too, doesn’t surprise me. Pettersson seems like that type of person. Arrogant, cocky, etc…..
@icysnaxКүн бұрын
@blackhawks9763 Buddy if Miller was injured they could have LTIRed him. The only situation in which he goes on a "leave of absence" and the team can't LTIR him is if they told him to step away.

I believe it but we'll never know. Whos the ex player?
@richardlefaive1944Күн бұрын
This is an explanation of the room dynamic which makes 100% perfect sense. If true, it underscores how, when running ANY sports franchise theheost important thing is to make sure that your pay scale largely makes merit based sense. This is why, from the day the FIRST Pettersson contract was announced, I knew trouble was coming. THAT was a ridiculous amount of $ for a player who is NOT a franchise player that takes you to a Cup. He should have been traded after that season instead while his market value was sky high instead of signing him to a deal which was bound to create room discord. Or ... traded in winter 2023 when he peaked with 101 pts ( performing to get a new deal ). For what we would have gotten in return at that point ... the Canucks and their long suffering fans might already have won their long awaited Cup. The last thing to do was to renew him in Spring 2024 for EVEN MORE. A ridiculous amount in fact. Predictably, after putting pen to new paper on that deal, he faded and then wasn't heard from in the playoffs ( nor since ) at all. That's ALL on the current and previous set of management. Ability to recognize good vs poor character is a pre-requisite for the job and they haven't had it.

@@pdubcentral There is a back story, contract jealousy. JM deserves all the blame for handing out that idiotic contract to Peter. The salary structure is now blown to shit from a merit perspective. Pretty simple to understand when the guy getting paid 4M more than anyone else is not pulling his weight. Petey should have been traded 2-3 years ago while he was at peak value. They were amid the transition from the longtime dirty scoundrels identity going back to BSBs, but if you were that close to the building, I guess I can't judge you too harshly.😉 Blackhawks at that time I can understand. Something about them always turned me off, but I don't know what exactly. Different strokes.🤷🏻 I was 6 when I picked the Stars as my second team. The color scheme and logo I found simplistic in a cool way, and I really liked Modano, Zubov, and Belfour, among others. At 17 I picked the Canucks as No. 3 when their EA NHL 10 equivalent drafted my pro and I grew to like the look and players, both individually and collectively, just in time to not be a bandwagon jumper. Their consistent bizarreness makes me feel a little less bad about my No. 1 nowadays, but only slightly. Blues and Blue Jackets were basically tied for fourth, whichever being 4a when I was more pleased with the team direction. Now it's more consistently Lumbus fourth, because I still have family who's been there my whole life, whereas my ex from St. Louis decided after more than a decade that she wanted me out of her life.😅 I liked the Blues before I knew her, just not so formally. I've done rankings like THG all the way to 32, but it's been a while and there's a lot of shifting potential from 6 to 30, haha.

I am a bit older than you, Shannon, and also became a "Canucks Lifer" after the '82 run. Your pain story as a Canucks fan is similar to mine. This year with the Miller-Petterson drama is almost a new low in some ways. Last year had me feeling hopeful again and now it feels like a few more bad things and yeah back in the tank for 3-5 seasons. I saw my Seattle Thunderbirds lift a cup LIVE in 2023, May 19th. Will NEVER forget that day. It was better than high fiving random people on Granville street when the 'Jays won in 1992 and 1993. I wish my Canucks would get over the hump but I keep thinking 2023 might be my hockey fandom pinnacle, I'll never see my Canucks lift a cup.

Yeah it was a good history - but comparing Bure to Pettersson ? seriously ? remember - Bure was there in probably the prime of prime era of the NHL - that is when Gretzky still had it - Mario was in his prime - Hull, Yzerman, Lafontaine - so many great players - but no one took people out of their seats the moment he touched the puck like Bure .
@wolfgangkern5164Күн бұрын
@@pjpredhomme7699 The only time I had a 17 pack or whatever they called it (maybe still do) was in Bure's first season. I watched in the Pacific Colosseum as he took the puck at one point, deked and skated around the back of the net through half the other team, maybe all of them, then made a play to a teammate or shot, can't remember. I was like "...this kid is it...". Bure pre-Messier was the best single player the Canucks ever had, period.

WOW! What a review and I for one, was unaware of this interview by Jim and as a penguins fan, I have kinda relaxed my overall league followings as my team kinda stinks. Lol But anyway, this brings me back to my opinion of Rutherford during his time in Pittsburgh and his departure from Carolina. Simply stated, he does some really good things and then he doesn't. This definitely falls into the doesn't category and might just be his worst work yet. I just don't understand the leverage that he may have thought this interview might bring or how this helps anything. Period. I love my guy Tocchett and I wish he never left Pittsburgh and his time with the coyotes was a very tough situation and now this. But I digress, this was a bad move by Rutherford imo and I really hope something good comes out of it but that doesn't seem likely. Sending well wishes to all of the Vancouver fan base and ...geez. I can’t imagine reliving it, having a decent team, and watching it fall apart again. You guys deserve better from your organization.

Kinda different with san jose tho no? San Jose's window kinda just shut when all their players declined. Vancouver should still be in their contending window, but now itll get blown up because of lockeroom drama and egos. Id say vancouver has it worse, theres no reason this should be happening
@monkeychifeКүн бұрын
@ it’s definitely different but I do think culture issues accelerated what happened or at the minimum played a role. I don’t think it’s a coincidence the year Pavelski left everything fell apart and there was a whole thing about hertl hating Kane. Its why they looked for an excuse to terminate Kane’s contract at the first convenience. I mean, It’s not like the sharks didn’t make the conference finals with Jones already not playing well for a couple seasons and I would be surprised if there wasn’t some hard feelings about Karlsson being the highest paid player in the history of the sharks and not performing up to his contract until his final year with the team. Declining players was a piece, but with the exception of Jones and vlasic most of the core guys stats weren’t that far off of the previous season when the playoff miss streak began. Proof of that was Wilson trying to constantly make broken team work instead of accepting it’s over.

When I was a kid in the 80s, being on the East Coast, unless for those scarce runs (2) to the Cup Final, I was able only to watch the Canucks play a few times every year. For me, watching the Flying V or the Flying Skate were quite a treat. The paramount happened went during the NHL 75th Year, when teams started to wear their coloured jerseys at home. I still remember my awe to watch a Nords-Nucks game on TV from the Colisée. These nice white, yellow and orange Skating uniforms contrasting well with our beloved Fleurdelisés with their Royal Blue jackets. Still have goosebumps!

We moved to Edmonton a year later, during the low point of the "Decade of Darkness" here. It was still easier to cheer for the Oilers through those times...and they got better and better. From a drama standpoint there is a night and day difference. nothing that happens with the Canucks surprises me.

Rutherford dropping a bomb 💣 The moment the Nucks begin a little momentum, beating Ovi and the top team of the league. Rinse and repeat year after year. Ownership interference time and time again. Affecting style and dynamic of the club. All of this started snowballing moment Gaglardi lost out to Aquilini for ownership bid. Dallas is better structured all together compared to the Swiss or Swede cheese of Vancouver. God speed life long Canuck fans! Groundhog Day for the hockey faithful on the West Coast 🤯

Yikes. That room is dysfunctional now, probably multiple factions in the room. Damn. Vancouver is about to do a fire sale and it's very unfortunate. Not even a Canucks fan but that sucks. If you trade either, other players will want out. Rutherford can be an arrogant man so, yeah, this is on brand for him. Since Pettersson is coming up in rumors again, I will not be shocked if Allvin trades either or both, packaged with other players.

Canucks getting little more than a bag of pucks for Petey given the lead balloon contract Rutherford gave him in spring 2024. THAT was the beginning of the end. SHould have been traded then at his peak rather than resigned.

This is a coach and captain issue. Rutherford is at his wits end, so he's putting pressure on the players, the captain, and the coach publicly. He might as well try it because, probably, a trade suitable to him has been difficult to get done. If I were a Canucks fan, this issue would make me very upset given last season and the expectations going into this one.

If there really is camp setting and side taking going on in the locker room the ONLY fix is to find out exactly who is on whose side and then axeing that *entire* camp when you trade that player. Which is not at all an ideal scenario. You could be talking about a half dozen players.
@Berubium19 сағат бұрын
Shannon, I appreciate the passion you feel about this situation & could see & feel it throughout the video. As a fellow Canucks fan, this is hard to watch & experience knowing the tremendous talent this team has. If I were in the ownership group, I would have had Rutherford fired for having this interview see the light of day during the regular season (I might give it a pass if it were during the offseason, but certainly not now). I don’t see anything good coming from this; but perhaps, in his mind, he’s trying to motivate them to prove him wrong in his own ridiculous way.

A. THere was never really a Horvat \ Miller rift. THey go out for dinner together whenever Bo is in town still to this day ! B. So why was HOrvat traded ATALL ? The BIG roster error was giving Petey his FIRST contract extension in '21, but the BIGGEST error was then, after all the evidence was presented that he was not a cornerstone \ playoff performer that takes you to a Cup ... you resign him in '24 to an even more MASSIVE deal rather than trade him at his peak value in either winter deadline 23 or 24. EPIC roster mis-managment by two consecutive management teams.
@nicholasmotzКүн бұрын
@ didn’t say there was a rift between Horvat and Miller. Yes it was a mistake to sign Petey to that much. It was also a mistake to keep miller if there was a problem between the 2(many have confirmed this going back to before Jim and Alvin). If the 2 of them can’t work it out then they need to go and do whatever you can to convince Hughes to stay.
