Just checking out the photos from D Troop 7/17th Air Cav., Pleiku, Vietnam. This was my Unit from January 1972 to April 19th, 1972, when I came home. I was with 2 Infantry Units, the other was Alpha Company 1/22nd Inf., out of Dong Ba Thin, Vietnam. Great job on the Vietnam Collection of photos of the "Ruthless Riders," soldiers. Thanks! My father Mark Bloom was Calvary 7-17, 70'. he was Ruthless Ryder and Scout. I have his flight jacket with both patches. He would always say'for Smitty and Bruce... He just passed away.

Just to let those that are concerned know, Joe Meade from Nashville, TN a member of the Ruthless Riders passed away this morning at 7 am central time. He was a door gunner in the 7 17th and would often tell me stories of his service. It is a shame we are losing honorable soldiers and marines from his era. May he like other former members of the 7 17th rest in peace.

My pilot was Larry Sustrick (sp) when I was in A trp for my first tour. I couldn't find him in the VHPA database. If anybody has contact with him, I would love to say hello to him before it's too late for either of us. My wife tells me I'm no 'spring chicken' anymore, lmao. God Bless all who fought in that terrible war, and fuck the hippies that spit on us when we came home and accused us of starting the war...damn hippies.

My grandfather is 1LT Ken Kendricks, 3rd platoon leader, D Troop, 7-17 Cav in Vietnam from June 1971 to June 1972. Please let me know if anybody served with him or knows of him.

I was D-Troop 3rd Platoon scout. I was one of the boat people. The machine gun that Bill Jarrell is show with was the one I carried before I was sent to 2/1 Cav. April 4, 68. I know it was my machine gun is because if you look close to it, it has the Bi-pod removed. I did that because is got sick and tired or trying to beat the bush while having to fight with it getting caught in the brush and growth. Never used the bi-pod anyway. I always fired it up right, I carried it with a sling around by neck. Your grandfather must have been the last before we pulled out.

Well it's been 51 years since I was over there. I went over on the USS walker across the pacific with the squadron. I was the commo chief for A Troop. We were stationed at Camp Enari. I only had 6 months left when they sent me. I left in March of 1968! I still remember like it was yesterday, however the faces are slowly fading away. If anyone remembers me from those days leave a reply and your e-mail so we can touch base!

Hey Ron, my grandfather was in A troop, Douglas Alexander Walker. He was KIA in May of 68. If you have any information I would love to hear.

@@jakelive3432 Hey Jakob, I left over there in March of 1968 and I really don't remember Your Grandfather. Was he an original member of the squadron or did he join us when we were in country? I am sorry you didn't know him, I lost a few friends before I left and really lost touch after that! My generation is disappearing ay a fast rate now and I'm no exception, I thank the Lord for the time I have had so far and I hope a few more years to see my Grandchildren grown! Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

@@ronsellew5696 Hey Ron, he was deployed on October 28th of 67’ his nickname was “Scotty” Walker A Troop 7/17th. I’ve got in contact with Charles Rayl, I don’t know if that rings a bell. My grandfather was a scout pilot in an OH-6A if that helps!

Yes it does help, I remember the name associated with the scouts. I believe he was a warrant officer because we addressed them as Mr, Walker The officers had their own section where they sleot so the only interaction would have been casual. My job was to take care of the communications of the troop. I also put up the power lines in the troop area trained radio operators and a few times flew door gunner if needed. If you have a picture of him u could send it might be helpful.
