Best fairy wings I've seen!! I respectfully disagree that KZbin viewers lose interest in long videos. I've watched many long coloring videos &, believe me, there are a lot of them out there as well as long multi-media ones. Other well-known artists with large numbers of subscribers do this on a regular basis. So I would at least start with an hour long video to check out the response. Or at least post more. A lot of people would be happy. I, for one, would love to see more of your outstanding tutorials from your awesome coloring books. Thank YOU!!

Hi Ruth. I've been truly enjoying your colouring books; and I do go with lighter colors but I use a bit of medium Grey for some of the dark lines such as tree branches.

Thank you for posting these grayscale videos.. and for the free downloads on your website. After scouting around different coloring youtube channels and purchasing a few coloring books by various authors, as well as pencils, I found your channel and it was a relief. I've only recently gotten interested in adult coloring, and it has been a surprise that there is much to learn. I've also enjoyed learning about your art and books--I ordered a used (but good condition) library copy of A Castle Full of Cats and may send it to my niece's young children. Just as long as it doesn't give my niece's husband any ideas about getting another large dog (German Shepherds are his favorite)... with their last GS my niece found the shedding level difficult to deal with!

Thanks for your note! I am glad you are enjoying my videos. I have not done any in a few years, but hope to do more at some point. I have a Facebook coloring group if you are interested in seeing how other people color. And if you sign up for my newsletter I send them out just a few times a year if/when I have a new book out. My next one will be Birds, and possibly a Teddy Bear's Christmas, though I might not get to that this year. The coloring book of A Castle Full of Cats might be a good Grayscale one to start with. Up to you, though.

@@RuthSanderson Thank you for the info/suggestions. I hadn't known about the group on Facebook... so I will look into that. And thank you for telling me about your newsletter. I did print a few of the free grayscale downloads from your website--printed on colored pencil drawing paper--so I may start there and and watch the accompanying video as a guide. As someone who knits, my ears perked up when you talked about coloring being similar to knitting in the repetitiveness... "I can do that!" Thanks again!

Thank you Ruth, that helped tons. My requests would be 1) how to color what I call foggy back grounds. 2) Some of the coloring book come out really dark, how do you color those? I also ask, am I doing something wrong with the Gamsol, my pictures come out looking faded. Again thank you much for the tutorial stay well and safe.
@RuthSanderson4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Rusty. Soft transitions are perhaps the hardest. I suggest a very light hand and overlapping and "feathering" the areas with the two colors you are using Burnish with a lighter pencil if it is a light "fog" or with the lightest of the colors you are using. If you use Gamsol too soon without enough color built up, that might be why you are getting that result. Good luck! I am planning a blending demo soon...

I knew there was something I Gorgonzola. What type of printer do you use to print your demos. I have a laser power cartridge and when I printed the princesses and castles from Etsy the smeared. Is ink jet better on drawing paper?
@RuthSanderson4 жыл бұрын
I think that inkjet has the preferred type of ink. If you use a lazerjet let the ink dry overnight, that might help. I am not familiar with that ink though. I have an Epson archival printer, but a regular inkjet should be okay. Again, prints seem dry right away but they are not. Always safer to let dry overnight, or at least a few hours.

Hi Ruth, just found your channel yesterday but I LOVE it! Just a few quick questions: 1. which paper would you recommend when you print the coloringpages? 2. The pencils you use in this video, are they all from the same set as in the Cinderella tutorial?

I use Springhill Vellum card stock. Prismacolors all the way.

I'm doing a skin tones demo next, you are in luck. Sometime this week or next. Possibly will be my Live demo on ruthsandersonart facebook page at 2pm on Saturday. Have not decided what I am doing Live. Skin tones might take too long for that. (I'd do at least three skin types) Be sure to subscribe to my channel. If I do it live I will post it on KZbin afterward.

Sylvie, so if I understand your question, I'd say ---don't color the grass over the wings, just make the wings whatever color you want. And color the grass in the background up to the edge of the wing. Technically the grass behind might show through transparent wings if this were a real dragonfly.... but hey, artistic license lets you color it however you want. I like to break rules. And the iridescence of wings actually comes from the wing itself, not what's behind it. There is no one right way. It is fantasy art! Anything goes. Does this make sense?
