Baggio was a fantastic player, one of my favorite ones. Italy did not deserve to be eliminated by Argentina in the world cup - 90. Gullit was really, really good! Holland with Gullit, van Basten, Rijkaard, Koeman, then Bergkamp, what a great list of amazing players! . As we know, Marco van Basten made his last official match when he was 27. A pitty. Marco and Messi are my favorite players. Soccer has always been a big business, but when we see the current brazilian national team and the ones till 2002, we realize some clear difference: besides money, ego and exposition, they cared about being there, they wanted to play, to put their name in history. When I see Neymar, Philippe Coutinho, Dany Alves, they do not have the spirit we saw in Romário, Ronaldo, Edmundo, Dunga, Zico, Bebeto, Rivaldo. They did not used to have their hair cut before each new game. PS - Neymar's rejection is SO BIG here in Brazil!

Gullit was obviously physically stronger, better at heading and had the edge with his long passes, but Baggio wins out in the other areas: dribbling, finishing, set pieces, short passes, first touch, awareness and overall technique. It would have been great to see them play together as their skillsets really complimented one another. This match was a mixed bag for Baggio, he was entertaining to watch though he should have done better with his end product. Sacchi's system and style never suited Baggio. Italy got to the final in spite of Sacchi thanks to the solid defense and Baggio's individual brilliance. If only he didn't get injured in the semi final against Bulgaria.

Gullit (Van Basten & Rijkaard) have grown thanks to AC Milan and the tactically strategic experience gained in Serie A (in which the best players in the world played at the time) and this is one of the reasons why Holland became European Champion 1988 - the only international Trophy that the Netherlands ever won. Baggio scored 9 goals at World Cup Tournaments, more than Gullit and Van Basten together (and Van Basten is for me the best centre forward ever seen) and in Serie A he scored in total 205 goals, Baggio is incomparable!

Baggio was becoming even stronger in the next years. And technically, have you ever seen Baggio with Brescia in his last years from 35 to 37? Technically unsurpassable! Impossible stealing the ball from his feet, unless with bad irregularity! Never seen such a technique (note that Baggio, due to an almost lethal injury occurred at 17, always played with 1leg and a half even when in great shape) With both healthy legs he would've been absolutely the greatest ever.

Baggio is for pure technique it is at least at the same level of Messi, if not even better (much better in free kicks). Look more videos and do not forget that with modern shoes and modern balls, it is much easier to control the ball and to shoot.
