A Simple 4-2-3-1 looks so much better on this team. Ugarte, Casemiro, Licha, De Ligt in that pocket of 4 are like hungry predators for the tackle intercepting and tidying up and picking the ball off the toes in that midfield.

It's because they've used that formation more. Under Ole, ragnick and ETH used it 1st season. Changed at the start of 2nd season. Went back to it the end of last season.

Rashford almost always plays better when he has Luke Shaw supporting him and feeding him balls from left back - I think it's very telling that his poor spell has coincided with Shaw's absence. Should he be able to cope with the absence - yes, he should, but it probably isn't easy when the service just isn't there. Same for Rasmus Hojlland. It must be so frustrating for him to be getting zero service from the other players and when he does get the ball, he doesn't seem to have the confidence to do anything with it.

Hojlund being starved of service is directly linked to his apparent loss of confidence. The team needs to keep feeding him so his confidence has a chance to return. The center forwards being starved has been going on for far too long. It's almost like a style of play. I noticed it since Ighalo.

Howson is responsible for a lot of it. Garna wasn't great against Chelsea, missing chances and not seeing key pass opportunities, however, he's 20, on £40k per week and has been our most productive player all season in less minutes than Rashford, yet the 27 yr old on £350k a week escapes criticism. Where's the thumbnail of 'Rashford was terrible?'

Im not a fan of this narrative that its just Rasmus not making the right runs for the striker getting almost no service whatsoever because its been happening for so long before him. Ronaldo cavani martial even Memphis werent really getting as much service either and thats years and years back. Lukaku might have been the last striker at united to get some service even if it wasn’t a ton.

I think Rashford is done at this level or the level we want to go to. From what i have seen he has lost a half step of pace and was never a super high technical player and he was never a super high IQ player either that can play multiple different ways when one isn’t working. The last point for me is his confidence/mentality issues. When was the last time he was confident? 2 years ago? Even if you look at his big scoring season he fell off a cliff the last 15 games of that season and has never recovered since.

Am I missing something with these long balls that keep getting launched to our strikers. Whoever it is up top for us its always 2 v 1 on their CB's in air. We lose the ball so often like this. Its so strange to see
