As she says in the beginning, this video is about her experiences on all stars, but in a bizarre kinda of way as we know it's Katya’s preferred choice of story telling. Next I will try to put onto words what I think are the possible real scenarios that inspired the making of this video. In the video, Katya is portrayed as someone that lives in a state of fluctuation between reality and fantasy, in which she confuses her present self with her past and future self. Past Katya is the one with the medium blond hair, her present self is the one with short hair and a half burned(?) face (she even went to the reunion with a similar face), and her future self is the old lady played by Detox (who apparently is dying from lung cancer). As we know, Katya had problems with anxiety and drug addiction before and after(?) her original season. I think her three daughters might represent those self destructing habits: one daughter represents anxiety (the blonde one), one represents addiction (the brunette one) and the other is crippling depression (the one in the wheelchair). The unbalanced and unhealthy relationship between her daughters and her causes her ego fluctuations. Before going on all stars, she sacrifices her vision for knowledge: that’s why present Katya doesn’t have one eye. That might mean that she has abandoned her old bad habits and is trying to be a more illuminated person. But soon she starts to “babysit", and becomes a “mother" again, since the pressure of being in a competition again is making her bad ways to develop once more (her daughters are back). But this time around, Katya is more mentally prepared for the competition, and keeps her three daughters under control (checking her ponytails for lice and watching over them). They then offer her instruments of violence (power) and dollar bills (money), things that come with the exposure of doing good on the show. The scene that follows resembles a lot like a meet and greet (Detox sitting on a throne and Katya’s daughters greeting her one by one), so I guess it’s about her conclusion thoughts and after show feelings. Her daughters are apparently under control and doesn’t have a bad influence over Katya anymore, but once you lost the things that you thought defined who you are, then who are you now? She then discards the gifts of power and money, because she realizes that that’s not what she’s looking for (she already stated that she didn’t want to win the crown). She tries to find solace and pleasure in HERSELF (playing and drinking from her own pee bag). That’s when she has a relapse and turns to addiction again (kissing her daughter and her old self), and sees herself swamped with regret and disgust, causing her ultimately death. As the credits roll in, we can see a white fabric on front of a greenhouse, that may represent REBIRTH. We can also see crutches and the gardening tools being left behind, which I think means that she’s finally ready to find peace in her own true self.

I can't stop thinking about this video. I came here to watch drag performances and did not expect to be on a weird journey of rumination. Identity, consumption, growth, knowledge, the ways in which we view ourselves... it's been oddly emotional and confusing. For the first time in a long time, I find myself wanting to reflect on who I am and what I want instead of living from one distraction to the next, passively awaiting or even striving for death. I've spent the weekend lying in bed, experiencing a mixture of stress and hope while watching this video. It's been a long time since a piece of art has hit me so viscerally. Ugh, I sound ridiculous. Regardless... Katya is a gifted performer, but I hope there will be more of this deeply personal, beautifully constructed art. I'm so fucking into it. I feel more awake than I've felt in such a long time.

@KamuiJJang
@KamuiJJang 3 жыл бұрын
@@elliottstirrop4353 her writing and visual references are smart. The haunting imageries and narration are meant to provoke particular tropes about the unreliable woman narrator in horror films/literature. The repetition of the structure "Mother, I have_____ again," regardless of what are being said, gives audiences a feeling of increasingly unease and an understanding that the character has been and is going insane, but you're unsure about what exactly is happening. The visual references to these narratives also look candid and hold more symbolic performance rather than actually representing what is being said, so the audiences don't get to be sure what is happening. This technique is used a lot, often in montages about mysterious past events in a thriller/horror film. In short, this video is mimicking serious narrative and visual exploration of madness, with explicit themes of mental disabilities, childhood nostalgia, motherhood, daughter-mother relationship--all that are familiar tropes of Victorian gothic; but since we know she's a drag queen trolling us on the internet, these became campy. You know, like tragedy and comedy meet each other at the climax. You laugh because you know that she's making a joke, but also appreciate that the jokes themselves don't work/ don't make sense without the structure of images, sounds, references that the video conjured up for you. Hope this helps.

Her daughters are apparently under control and doesn’t have a bad influence over Katya anymore. But once you lost the things that you thought defined who you are, then who are you now? Still can't think of what the fog might represent, though"

@@isabelleseq Thanks for this! I'm usually p. good at analyzing art like this, but I don't watch this vid very often (her "Mother, I'm ______ again" cadence is like an earworm to me and gets stuck in my head all day and things get...weird. lol) so it's been bothering me that I couldn't figure it out! Katya is one step ahead of the game with her drag. This piece was by far greater as a performance piece than any single or album released. Like Raja, Sharon, Jinkx, Willam, Bianca, Kimchi, Katya has pushed drag to another level which we will see newer queens influenced by. We the public only benefit from her & the others remarkable talents. I hope she and the few I mention do get a chance to enter the Hall of Fame by becoming winners of future All Stars seasons because we need to pay thanks to their genius who have made donning a frock the most enjoyable entertainment we fans love. Thank you Katya - this was spell bounding, just like your good self.
