This part of the show has some of my favourite Ruyi and Rongpei moments while they're trying to trick everyone into thinking Ruyi is pregnant with a girl. The smirk Ruyi gives Rongpei while she's patting her choking mother on the back is so funny, like they're sharing an inside joke. And later, when Rongpei brings her the sour apricots to eat by lantern light, they remind me of a pair of kids at a sleepover whispering and giggling together long past their bedtime.

rongpei is the best handmaiden/assistant in the entire series. She isn't malicious, but she is loyal. She takes care of ruyi but doesn't harm others to do so (unless they deserve it). She has a strong attachment to her empress and i'd even go as far to say that she like truly loves her, not in a romantic way but in a friendship way.
