RV Build Quality issues, here's what you can do.

G'day, Congratulations on the RV it looks awesome. One thing I'd like to say is that people have to realise that buying an RV is the easy part . They need constant attention. Don't expect the build quality to be the same as your car or you'll be sadly disappointed. With the wiring issues I use rubber hose. I cut it in half and zip tie it around the wires. And remember zip ties are your friend go to town with them. So thanks for sharing ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.

We got a brand new destination trailer this year, 2023 Forest River Sierra 400BH. We were all over this thing at the dealership with a punch list of things they were to fix prior to signing the papers. On the day of doing the paperwork something still were not done. We were assured they would be fixed prior to delivery at our seasonal campsite. Some were not and other issues arrose right after delivery, by the dealer that we paid extra for. The dealer's service department said I could bring it back, or there is a $150.00 service call fee plus whatever the non warranty costs would be. I called the salesman, nothing; the paperwork person, nothing; the "person in charge of the dealership - "That is our policy and an issue between you and the service department. Also, you should have refused deliver if you knew there were issues." . Their delivery person dropped and ran before I got the door unlocked to inspect the trailer. They all suck since Covid, some just suck less than others. The RV & travel trailer industry has ALWAYS had the slimy used car salesman reputation and they don't seem to care (manufacturers, dealers, salesmen or service writers).

Wow, that's really bad. I had that with the water leak, they claimed to fix it, but when I got home the leak was still there. At least now you have a lot of little projects to work on. Hopefully the situation get's better for you.

Wow. I'm disappointed in the details of the build quality. The RV looks cool and I hope you guys enjoy it for a long time, but having never owned one, I wouldn't have thought to check it over the way you did before use. At work we have a couple conversion busses on similar chassis and the build quality on those is about the same. Must be an aftermarket fitter thing. Being a car fabrication guy I would never let it leave my hands with so many details left unfinished. The good news is you are able to fix all that stuff.

Yeah, I think all these after factory conversion shops would be the same. Us fabricators know that the work involved to make something really good would just be to costly on the manual labor side to take the time to do the quality.

Now you got me thinking, Tomorrow I need to inspect mine, Although mine is a older 5th wheel I never gave it a close inspection.

Nice camper. Will provide many good memories. After watching your channel for the last couple years, be familiar with your attention to detail that RV is going to drive you nuts! I have owned 6 campers and the build quality was and is horrible with all of them. They are junk in so many ways. But the are nice to have. They are like a Boat the best days of owning them is the first day and the last day. The key is to use them!

Yes, you nailed it, seeing some of these build qualities is making me nuts! But my plan is to just tidy it up some and use it to get Wratchet out to play.

I’ve had a few RV’s. The one with the best build quality is the oldest (2001). My next RV will be a Cargo trailer that I will build out to a Toyhauler with all the comforts of a manufactured RV.

Yeah, building one from scratch like that would be nice. You could make it exactly as you want.

This year my parents decided to downsize their RV trailer after 2 years so I bought it. I've found similar. Lots of wires pulled across sharp metal edges dangerously close to wearing through.

I have a friend who has been in the RV repair business for decades. They're pretty much all crapply built until you get to the very upper tier.

Those clamps on the PEX plumbing is sketchy if you ask me. Also having all those ABS 90⁰, It's and other fittings would concern me.
