Good memories, been going to Geco and roadrunner since 1980 when there were very few people hardly any sand rails but we quit after they start closing the dunes and charging way too much then decide to go to wash 10 or 12 but after 2010, we sold the sand rail and quit going, but like I said great memories, you guys be safe out there.

Great video! Someone for sure needed to do a detailed video explaining the camping! I'll be doing my glamis 101 beginners video for duning! Let me know if you'd like to be a part of it!

From the Midwest. Drove by Glamis on way to Baja way back in '07. Have always wanted to go to the dunes, so I have been watching videos for years. Seen literally thousands of videos, but very few of actual camping and area layout. Your video was very informative and helpful to connect the dots of what I previously have watched along with looking at maps and Google earth pictures. Thank you for your content!

We used to go there in the '70's and do the same thing, pull the motor home down 'til it got stuck and stay there for the weekend. I have pulled a skier down that canal with my jeep. It has roads down both sides as most of you know so pulling a skier seemed like a good thing to do. That was before guys started jumping over the canal with their motorcycles. Fun times.
@sandblastxtremervАй бұрын
I have skied down the canal behind a quad. it wasn't easy cause it pulled to one side. The hardest part was climbing out up the side. Good times!
@fgpriceincАй бұрын
@@sandblastxtremerv You're right, it's hard because of the side pull. The guy I pulled used one ski and was carving it pretty good. Much better skier than I ever was.

10 PSI or less with bead locks, keep just enough pressure to hover over the rims edges and you'll dramatically float over sand!

Should have been there with us in the 1960's. North side of Hwy 78 was open. 2 outhouses at Osborne and drop tanks for gas at the old store. NONE of this crap that goes on today. It used to be pristine before the state and big business got greedy. I really feel bad for you folks.
@sandblastxtremervАй бұрын
Well, believe it or not I did get to experience those good times back in the late 80s. We used to ride on the right hand side of highway 78 to get to "Competition Hill" at night. Friends of mine (if I remember correctly) owned "Clean Jeans" across from the store until it burned down those were definitely the good old days!
@rvmonkey1669Ай бұрын

@rvmonkey1669 that's right we were just talking about that tonight and Dano's right where the cell tower is built I believe Gene the owner of the store's ex-wife owned that property.

Camped at Gecko Campground a couple times before we had our own hauler. Once several of us were in a rental bunkhouse trailer, and I wake up about 2 AM(light sleeper) to the sound of a rattletrap powerstroke and hear two clowns say, "There's nobody in there, let's just move it". I think they crapped their pants when I started yelling out the window! 😂
@sandblastxtremervАй бұрын
That is absolutely hilarious! Thank God those powerstrokes are so loud or you would have been going for a ride. Thanks for commenting your story, my wife and I always read these comments together. We feel like we are all one big "Glamis Family" Happy Thanksgiving

Can't wait to get out there again, finally ditching the dirt bike and got myself a Turbo R RZR. Been going to Glamis my whole life, started with a quad, then switched to dirt bikes, and finally joining the RZR crew. Will be getting a rail when I have the money, hopefully in a couple years.

California will make you buy a pass/license for anything that involves having fun. You don't need a pass to have fun in North Korea.

Land management agencies (like the Bureau of Land Management, which oversees Glamis) have the authority to impose certain rules on recreational activities within their jurisdiction. However, these rules generally cannot supersede state or federal vehicle codes. For example, if your street-legal vehicle is licensed and registered, you retain the right to drive it on public streets. Don’t let them get away with this nonsense! I have dealt with this bs. They are checking the main roads for permits just drive on to the road in a different spot.
@sandblastxtremervАй бұрын
You are correct, although if you don't buy a pass for the dunes and get the "towed in vehicle"off-highway pass for free. Then drive out of the dunes onto the road and then back into the dunes it then is void. If you want to drive on the road and in the dunes you need to buy a pass. Hope that makes sense, kind of a very technical thing most people will never encounter this issue. I just wanted to clarify what I was talking about. All of these rules are ridiculous in my opinion. Thanks for commenting all of these comments help people to steer clear of any issues or getting hassled by the BLM.
@markbenoitАй бұрын
@ well it’s a something they did to help them enforced people paying the fees, when people leave at the end of a big holiday weekend they check to see if you paid, with the tow in pass your are agreeing to there terms, but, there is a problem, the BLM does not have the authority to regulate your use of a state highway, even if it runs through or near the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (ISDRA). The BLM has no legal basis to prevent a properly registered and insured street-legal vehicle from driving on a state highway. here’s the way you can avoid this problem, do not enter or exit the sand dunes at the main entry points, like gecko Road or dune buggy flats , just drive off the road just before or after you get there, because those are the points where they’re asking you to prove that you bought a pass, The only scenario where the BLM could restrict your movement is if you were entering or exiting the ISDRA from a specific access point that they control. The whole reason I like having a street legal vehicle is because I can go on the highway if I want to it’s faster going to or from camp, or I can run into town.
