🙏 we haven’t been there, but believe we passed the signage on the highway…a very beautiful location! Thanks for the tip!

You had some really nice spots on this part of the trip. I remember driving through Strathcona many years ago. I went out to Gold River and took a boat trip out to Nootka Island. I only got as far north as Campbell River that trip and I've always wanted to go back to the north part of the island. I'm really looking forward to the next installment to see more of the north. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much for all your recommendations! We have used so many of your recommendations that it’s too numerous to mention. We arrived on Vancouver island yesterday and as you recommended stayed at Fort Victoria RV resort. It is just as you described and we like it very much. After a week of rain it is nice to be in a park with laundry and open sky for Starlink. We liked it so much we are staying another night. Next we head up the coast, but we could not find any last minute reservations, in provincial parks. One idea I will add if you are looking for fish and chips, and they have a small amount of vegan options, is the restaurant Red Fish Blue Fish. It was excellent! Thanks again and safe travels!

Love the Island. I have lived all over it and I am a graduate of Vic High. The Snug at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel was one of our favourite haunts a little later in life. Of course, it was an older creaky building then....it certainly has had a beauty change but I preferred the old Snug. I never tire of returning to Vancouver Island. Many lovely times were spent fishing at Buttle Lake or in the ocean nearby. We recently had Spot 12 at Miracle Beach which is very close to the walk to the Beach. I've even travelled the logging road into China Creek....if you like to salmon fish, that is a perfect spot. They have a few ocean front sites and a couple on a little spit (without hookups). I always enjoy your videos.....keep them coming.

Yes, we talked about the old Snug days as well while at the hotel…and we would have been right next door if at Miracle Beach at the same time! Island is very nice, though folks often now complain about the ferries to get there, though we have had few issues…folks on the island seem to like them even less, at least up island…just so busy we believe. We really enjoy once there, more on that in next video! 🚐

Many recreations sites north of .Campbell river that are free. Big fire burning in Strathcona park in remote area.
@hikenrv
@hikenrv Жыл бұрын
Yes, we have been to a few and some are quite nice. When we were at Strathcona we believe that there were 3 fires..all up high/remote so they were allowed to burn without fire suppression.

Have you two spent any time on north Cowichan Lake? Kind of the jumping off point for Nit Nat but loads of really nice camp sites up there. From Gordon Bay which is a full service provincial campground to Nixon and Kissinger Lake Rec sites to a logging road trip into Nit Nat...worth doing.

Do you ever stay at Goldstream, near Victoria? We stayed there last summer and noticed that it was full of families and the Dads commuted to Victoria every day. We did that at Porteau Cove when our daughter was younger. Have you ever gone out to the big trees at Carmanah? We are a bit nervous about the road. Nancy
@hikenrv
@hikenrv Жыл бұрын
Yes, we have stayed at Goldstream a few times..very nice and if a few days it would have been our choice. Ft Victoria however makes for a very short bus ride to the City or in this case a much closer cab ride to Oak Bay if Ok with ‘urban camping’. We have stayed at a few parks where it looks like a family is camping and one of the parents heads off to work . Miracle Beach was one. Sadly, we have never been out to Carmanah, and not the same, but we quite enjoyed our short visit to Cowichan River.

Sooke River campground is a great option if head W in the direction of Port Renfrew.

although if you are headed that way, you may want the wilder West Coast experience at French or China Beach or . . . those places seem more your style! But Sooke River is close to Victoria and Sooke things, should that appeal. @@hikenrv

@hikenrv
@hikenrv Жыл бұрын
We said the same…only in that the value of the land must be so high. It is largely full with folks who live there all year we believe, allowing for quite a bit of housing destiny, though campers are in an entirely different section as far as we know. There is another commercial campground/marina across from the inner harbour, about 3km from downtown (you can take a small ferry to and from), more oriented to big rigs we believe as an option too.
