Get hot water from your propane water heater with an electric addition from Camco Hybrid Heat. About 30 minute install and you can be running your RV water heater of standard 120v electric and save your propane.

Just got one of these and appreciate the instructions. Dual stuff is a must in this gig. 😃

Is the water really hot enough is 400 watts enough?

Thank you! Great instructions! Ours came in today so will be referring back this weekend for a refresher on installation. Thanks again!

Looks like you put Teflon on the flare fitting. Not the pipe thread part but the flare itself which is wrong.

Those kits are pretty awesome for people that plug in often. Eventually I might have a need for one. Thanks for sharing.

Saving propane here and there when plugged in is nice. Im never plugged in unless on my property so it only helps me there.... but still great!"Thanks!

Once I get a piece of property where I can plug in regularly I'll probably end up installing one as well.

Thanks for the tip. I hve been looking at ways to do this on my own but now will look into this rather then sourcing the parts . Keep up the good work.

Thankyou for the info! It looks really easy and excellent for your tank of water. Our camper doesn't have a tank though. But if it did I would probably do something like this too. Take care xxx

Nice upgrade. I might do that to my RV.

Worth it for sure if you plug in sometimes. Thanks!

Really good idea, probably have to do the same! Probably wouldn't be so stingy with hot water in given situations. You have to light the water heater outside on my Dolphin so only really use it for a shower.

too Bad it doesn't come with an external thermostat rather than just a switch. Also kinda silly many of the factory 6 gal propane installs are just a switch and a thermal fuse for overheating risks. While I mostly boondock will be getting a kit like this. Looks like is about hundo on Azon. There is another brand called hot rod as well. At 400 Watts, I'll try and plug in a circuit that won't trio with other appliances going. Corner cutting rv manufacturers, these tanks should installed factory with both 110 and propane hybrid on thermostats.

Only problem is without the anode rod the tank will suffer from electrolysis

Thanks! If you buy all the components separately it would cost around $50. Half the price of a kit

I was going to pull the trigger on this kit but am concerned that you no longer have a sacrificial anode to protect the tank with this installation?

excellent ... shame they dont do 240v as im in the uk ... cheers though from uk x
@TheRamblinCamperVan8 жыл бұрын
I wonder if they will put out a 220v 240v... maybe soon cause RV's out here use higher voltage too. It sounds like there is a market for it for sure! Thanks!

My water heater has no drain plug, only anode. If I replace anode with heater element, how much sooner will heater rust without anode?

Can you use a regular heavy duty extension cord to get the same results?
@thercrv82024 жыл бұрын
Actually, it does not convert your propane to electric, it adds electrical heating to your water tank. Minor detail but certainly eliminates the confusion created by calling it a propane to electric "conversion"
@scottlarocc47813 жыл бұрын
But will it really get hot at 400 watts ?
@thercrv82023 жыл бұрын
@@scottlarocc4781 well, over time it gets hot. Of course lower wattages provide slower recovery, but when on AC that's about all it needs if you turn it on when you plug in and leave it on. There's a much more noticeable, shorter heating and recovery time when running your heater on both AC & propane at the same time. This is probably the best scenario for the elec addition. Also, a consideration must be given to your power source..... a 30 or 50 amp service isn't much concern, but if you're getting your ac off a generator you don't want your heating coil to draw down on the available current too much. The trick is to conserve wattage when on a generator.

I just tried installing this and having a problem getting it to stop leaking. I connected all pieces to the heating element as is shown but it won't stop leaking from where the anode (wired end) goes into the brass fitting. I tightened it all the way so it at least relieved a lot of the leak but it still has a slow drip. Any suggestions on how to relieve this issue?
@RussellBond134 жыл бұрын
Did you put the little flair ferrel between the fitting and nut. That’s what compresses and seals and do not use Teflon tape on that part of the fitting.

great setup and now I know how . have you done anything with your heater so you can fire it up without being on shore power or generator ?

So far just my propane furnace. I am installing an electric heater so I can save on propane whenever plugged in but.... heat on battery bank and solar will require some more research and figuring out what will work without killing the battery bank and having solar be able to keep up with recharge. Thanks for watching!

I have the Hott Rod" Water Heater Kit what wire do you cut to put in a on and off switch? Mine did NOT come with a on and off switch
