The Step-By-Step video you've been looking for. Is your Genny running for a few minutes then shutting down? After troubleshooting every other possibility, I replaced the fuel pump and now she purrs like a kitten. Cummins Onan 5500 RV. HGJAB OEM fuel pump install.
I'm Bobby Gene, retired young to be caregiver for my wife, but after losing her to brain cancer I set out on motorcycle for three years to seek healing. To close the book on that final chapter, I've sold our home and moved into an RV, 'The Independence', with my car 'The Lieutenant' in tow, Together we travel as far as possible, hoping to inspire others who have suffered a loss, while discovering new destinations, new challenges, and amazing people.

Homeboy ,,, ahhh the never ending Onan servicing. That is why I ripped it out and put a Honda in. imgur.com/gallery/84YusGI It does fit, just check out the fuel consumption of the Onan, Something like 1.1 gallons an hour at no load!!! Running right now at 1/4 load less than a gallon a day. Bobby where is the fuel pump made? Mexico or China? Honda,, made in Japan, built for a lifetime of use.
@GenesTherapy
@GenesTherapy 5 жыл бұрын
@@steveharkins279 This one is .35 gph no load. .95 @ full load. It came with the RV and I don't depend on it very often, only has 1100 hrs, so I don't have any plans on ripping it out because I replaced a $80 fuel pump lol, still under warranty for another year too. I'll wait until it dies a permanent death, but by then I doubt if I'll even still have this same RV by then. Those Hondas are really great though.

I wanted to let you know I had trouble with my same generator on that 2002 RV you came to see at Long Point. I used your video here and a nice guy came along seeing me fiddling around. Well, it wasn't the pump, but he was impressed that I seemed to know what I was talking about! I let him get in there and fix it. He loved being the hero...so I let him! Yes. I felt a little guilty, but a girl likes being rescued at the same time...😅

Nice that the pump was right there, not buried somewhere in the bowels of the genny! Had a similar issue with my diesel generator but the issue was the over temp safety switch triggering. Of course the generator had to be dropped from the chassis to replace the sensor!

My greatest appreciation of this change out was the pump being so accessible, which made it possible to film it one day, and upload the next day. Yes, I'm so over those services that require a mountain to be moved to mop up a puddle.

Wow. First problem I would have is finding the right sockets and the right socket wrench. Which I wouldn't be able to find. I would have to run 10 miles to the hardware store to buy them. On the way I would hit something with my car and probably get a flat tire. Then I would have to call road service to come change my tire. By then I would realize I forgot to bring my purse and can't pay them. Believe me this is not far from the truth. I am very impressed with anybody who can fix stuff. Good job.
@GenesTherapy
@GenesTherapy 5 жыл бұрын
Aw, well simply take the sockets out and test one by one to see if they fit first and then connect it to the rachet. ( I did the same thing but not on video). Then, if you have to go on the road, make sure you see a video on how to change your tire and put on your spare...unless you have roadside service plan. Women don't forget their purse..in my experience. But if you do, they will be happy to be paid after driving you back to where you can retrieve your purse. The day is done :)

Mine did the same thing. 43 hours. Bought a new one at the cummins dealer today. It ran for 4 hours and quit again. Makes the same noise as yours. I pulled the fuel line off the carb and used the prime function and got no fuel. Pushed the start button and no fuel. Very weak fuel pumps. With filter cost me $156. I got a aftermarket coming from Amazon that cost 56 with filter. Going back to the dealer tomorrow to get a replacement. Hope they don't give me a hard time.

THIS IS HOW I FIXED MINE, IN THE CASE OF.... "I CAN'T START MY GENERATOR" It's has been two years since last time it was running, so I started by checking oil level full at gen dipstick (it won't start if low oil because of sensors) then I checked gasoline more than 1\4 tank in the RV (also safety sensors), sparkplug checked for good spark, also checked the manual reset circuit braker ( to be ON) at front motorhome engine compartment for 12v current to the generator to be able to start it, also cleaned the carburetor and even installed new one but same situation, then checked wires and found some has been chewed like gum by rats at the back of starting switch generator panel so I replaced them, at this time the generator started but stay running only by keep pushing the switch on all the time, so then finally I knew it was internal electrical problem from the engine itself, so I took the generator out from my RV to work in my garage, (I did this by myself with some tools and old Mayan tricks ) lol, it's really heavy for one person. I disassemble the unit at my garage and started by removing the cover, then the cooling fan or flywheel unit (it's 2 items in one) until finally I was at the gen rotor and brushes assembly area and this is what I found: one more wire chewed by filthy rats plus the stinky rat nest in the middle of the generator motor coil, I fixed the wire and sanded the commutator copper contacts where the brushes are sitting becouse they were real duty with old urine from the rats, and of course I got rid off the stinky nest, lol!!! Then I assembled everything back together and... bingo it's runing like a champion!!! For this project materials involved was about $60.00 including an aftermarket new carburetor and an harmonic balancer/steering wheel puller (available at any auto parts for $25.00) to pull the aluminum fan out and (flywheel). Just picture this: (Any gasoline engine run smooth if gasoline and DC current aren't interrupted) so following this important principle you'll always find the problem to be fixed. Also if you have a onan microlite 4000 like mine, don't run it for more than a minute without the cover because you'll cook the engine real fast, also keep the eye on the aluminium fan and your fingers after cranking it in case you missing one or two members...just kidding, lol!!! After testing the gen with the help of a gasoline container, a piece of hose and 12v battery, I did put the air cooling assembly back and the rest of components including the cover, then it was ready to be installed at my RV. Once the gen was installed back at my motorhome I started it to be tested for 120v electricity but not before flipping the AC circuit switch (on) at the gen starting control panel (sometimes hiding under or around the panel) to be able to transfer power to my RV GFCI main outlet and electric panel as well, my motorhome it's equipped with GFCI so I reset it and tested for green led light indicating power is ready at my main breakers panel, so I turned my main breaker (on) along the others ones but no power was present at my breaker main switch (faulty main braker) so I flipped it many times, sometimes you can make it work again, mine did work, lol!!! I'm happy because everything works now including the refrigerator for cold drinks and AC for this crazy summer, lol! Later I'll buy me a new main braker, for now this is a resurrected generator story that needed to be shared. If this can help eaven one person to save time and $$$ it'll make me more happy, thanks for reading!

I finding that this 15k A/C up front works so well that I'm not running the rear near as much, even at night, and I like it nice and cool when I hit the sack.

We had the same problem. We start them on low instead of auto which ran high. Once we got the temperature down in the RV we switched to auto and both ran normal. We think it was the initial start up and trying to cool the Rv down( amps was over 30). Hope this helps! Now it did cut of when we ran the microwave but came right back on as normal (both) when the microwave was done.

I've never ran the generator while driving. If the inverter can't handle the load it will have to wait.
@GenesTherapy

I actually found that my inverter handled the fridge perfect, I had always thought it was unrated. I still occasionally ran the gen to switch to coach air conditioner to give the engine a/c a break. Safe travels!

Replaced fuel pump after seeing no fuel in the bowl. The fuel pump is pumping but still none is going into the bowl after replacing. Suggestions?

I would ck line for kinking or blockage..clean carb to insure no gunk buildup

We have replaced plugs, Rand for 2.5 hours then shut down when driving it. Have plenty of fuel in the bowl. Maybe carb needs cleaning or pin?? So frustrating
