THANKS! My furnace quite working and it was a mud dauber nest in the exhaust pipe... this video helped me diagnose and fix it. I tried the coat hanger first, but ended up getting my big 16 gallon shop vacuum out of storage to suck it out of the exhaust pipe. The last thing that almost tripped me up was the gas line to the furnace had air in it because I changed the propane bottles yesterday. It was still shutting down after the 20 second spin up. Ran the stove burners for a little bit, and voila, working furnace again! Great video.

The minimum number of ducting was my problem. I installed a suburban rv furnace in my cargo trailer. The furnace would run by shut off. All the components in the furnce are perfect. The first thing I checked was the limit switch. It was getting to hot. Long story short, I only had one duct. The cover on the furnce has 3 holes to put some ducting in. I custom made a vent for all three holes. Now it’s perfect. Great video guys. You help me

I had an old (dried) wasp nest about the size of a quarter. When I tried to remove it I pushed it in further and out of sight now. I can hear it hitting the fan but judging by the pieces I did get out it almost falls apart just touching it. But I'm worried that it will suffocate the furnace? There's plenty of air blowing out the exhaust so is that a safe indicator that air is moving? I'm hoping the fan will just chop up the piece of nest but need expert advice.

I have a 2006 Coleman Fleetwood popup camper that I purchased a few months ago and used the camper twice. During that first campout, the furnace did come on (I think once) but only tick, tick, ticks and the blower blows, but the burners do not fire up. I am thinking that the sail switch isn't working. Until I saw this video, I had no idea where that was located so I think that I will tackle that tomorrow (I have already purchased a replacement). The other issue I have is that this popup doesn't look like it has a 12v battery. Since the furnace blower does come on and I have the tick, tick, tick - wouldn't that confirm that it must be using the converter to power the furnace instead of a 12v battery? Most people I talk to say that it should be using a 12v Battery, although one RV salesman told me that Coleman did put out some campers that didn't require a 12v (though these would not be able to power anything without a power source to plug into). I am just looking for confirmation of what I am beginning to learn.

It's not popping a breaker or any fuses in the trailer and a few minutes later the lights will come back on by them self but the heater won't. If I wait a little while and turn the switch on the thermostat off and back on it will come back on heat up the trailer again but does the same thing again. Any help thanks

I have a 1988 Dolphin with a Hydro Flame 8535-II furnace. I turned it on at the thermostat and it immediately blew the fuse. I tried to trace the wiring to find a short the multimeter shows continuity between the red (positive) wire and the yellow (ground) wires. I unplugged the wires to the motor and there was no more conyinuity, but I checked for continuity between the 2 terminals on the motor and there was continuity. I replaced the motor with a new one and it still blows the fuse, and there is still continuity between the terminals on the motor? Should there be continiuity between them? What else can I check?

You mention a minimum number of ducts, how do you know what that is? Ours has two ducts side by side to our bedroom and it forces to much heat into the bedroom at night when the door is closed. Especially since the thermostat is in the hall. Also if the bathroom gets to warm it shuts off the furnace to early because the vent blows warm air right up the wall of the bath/hall where the thermostat is mounted. Do the RV designers use their heads at all when they make these?

Thanks guys! My ignition system was blocked by small twigs. I had cleaned out the blower a few months ago and everything was quiet, but the chamber with the ignition system was the culprit. It wasn't easy to open on mine, but necessary. Mine is an SF-25F Suburban model. The blower probably purged the rest of the burn chamber, but the ignition area has equipment in it, so it couldn't get the twigs over all of it that metal like it could with the tubing. Question for you guys. As the burn change is all enclosed, and I live the RV Life (no air compressor), is it safe to assume that there aren't anymore twigs in it? I don't want to burn down my home and I'm not sure if igniting twigs in a BURN CHAMBER is an issue or not.

My question is in regards to ducting. I have a Heartland Pioneer RL250 and although I realize that not all TT heating / ducting systems are the same, I’d appreciate it if you could comment on this question: As a general rule of thumb, do most of the “mid-grade” (a build quality term I made up myself) Travel Trailers (heat) have ducting systems designed to have 1 giant duct that leads perpendicular to the duct that runs fore and aft in the rig and feeds the approximately 4 floor vents, or, is there (in this example) four different 4” round ducts that lead, one each, to the four different floor vents? I hope I’ve worded that well enough for you to understand my question. Assist very much appreciated. Much thanks, Dave/Florida. (Edit: I would like to close off one or two floor vents hoping that action would force more hot air to the remaining open vents, if possible)

If it says rv and furnace on it it's JUNK! Go outside your rv when your furnace is on and CAREFULLY put your hand near your furnace exhaust, fell all that REALLY hot air coming out? that's all the heat you are NOT getting. No rv furnace will tell you what it's actual efficiency is, all they will tell you is the btu's it burns. Couple that with the crappy electric blower fan eating up your 12 volt power and the fact that they are usually really loud and basically you have a box of junk parts designed to heat your rv for a couple of weekends a year in the most annoying inefficient manner possible.
@jamesdoherty3205 жыл бұрын
I just want to comment on your comment. First of all, a rv is not built to be a permanent home though many people have to use it for that. If someone is in that situation it is best to use city power to heat the rv if its possible. Second, the loud fan. Its an eletric moving part made to move air with high pressure. Its going to make noise. One small down fall for the pleasure of a warm nights sleep. And finally the explanation of all the hot air loss from the exhaust vent outside. The furnace produces heat by burning off lp gas inside a chamber and the fan blows the heat off the chambers and out the vents. To have flame you must have three things. Oxygen, fuel and an igniter. When lp gas burns it puts off carbon monoxide which is deadly to people. So a smaller fan pulls in fresh cold air from outside, mixes with the lp gas and burns creating heat warming the chambers and pushes out the noe hot carbon monoxide out the exhaust vent. If you have any other questions feel free to respond. Be safe and stay warm.

Don’t want to wake up knocking on St Peter’s Gate! I always take them away, use the space for storage, ect.. For heat, I insulate-seal the entire exterior against leaks, as well as the interior next, Pressure wash-clean first, then any cracks-seams, seal with “Through The Roof Clear Polyeurethane caulk..Will last a lifetime if applied right, although it does go on well in freezing wet conditions as well.

I bought a new toy hauler and it didn't heat the main area of the camper very well. Just had one vent and it was aimed into the garage area. I removed the metal vent access cover below the stove and found two unused vent plug options, so I punched them both out and added a 5" extension pipe (4" diameter) on each hole, to capture the heat and extend it against the back side of the metal vent access cover.... so it blows the heat out and into the room. Works great, but my question is if I'm taking away "air intake surface area" on the metal vent access cover, that is needed for the furnace to operate? The furnace doesn't overheat and seems to run fine. I'm thinking that metal vent cover below the stove is just for access and not an air intake at all. Thanks for any help and your videos are great!

@CampingWorldTutorials6 жыл бұрын
Technical Editor Chris Dougherty replies: There are a few factors which could be contributing to your problem. First, are you certain your gas cylinders are full and open? Empty cylinders can still allow the odorant to come out through an open valve, but still not provide enough gas for ignition. Also, the regulator may not be set correctly. It should be set to 11” w.c. and should be tested by a certified technician. Note that replacing it still requires a test and adjustment. Changing the ignitor was a good step. The circuit board may not be providing enough spark for ignition. What does the burner look like? I have seen them rusted and warped, which will also cause it not to ignite. There is a gap, but it changes depending on the make and model of the furnace. The fact that you can hear the unit attempting to ignite means the rest of the system is working as it should, so I would have the above checked out. Service manuals for many of the furnaces can be found online by doing a google search, and you’ll find your gap information there. Hope this helps!

Question, I haven't Atwood fa 7916 and it was cycling on and off on and off every 8 to 10 seconds. I removed the gas from the valve thinking I would take the unit out. I immediately ran into too much trouble to make it worth the effort so I put the gas back on. Now the fan turns on and 11 1/2 volts approximately goes to each of the coil valves, which I'll show a resistance rating of about 40 ohms. Now according to the manual anything between 30 and 50 ohms resistance shows it's a good valve and as long as it's getting at least 10.4 volts it should be enough to open up the gas valve. But all that's happening is the fan starts current goes to the gas valves both one and two they try to ignite for about 7 Seconds and then shut off and never try again until I reset the thermostat and the power to the circuit board. My question is first off what's going wrong? And second why, until I removed the gas hookup from the gas valves did it at least ignite and then immediately go out and only reignite 29seconds later,but now it won't light at all I never took it out and all I did was take the gas line on and off. If I understand your video the sail switch must be working otherwise power would not have been sent to the coil valve and the coil valve is should be ooening sibce it's getting enough voltage and the resistance is good. There's no reason gas should not be going in and I most certainly here the click of the igniter while the valve is energized. What am I missing?

My furnace works great it's my heat pump. Temp around 50 ok below that not so much 40 not keeping up. Is that true with heat pumps.
@michaeljohnston11615 жыл бұрын
You are correct in your assumption. Heat pumps will not produce heat below 40°F. There is no heat left in the air for the heat pump to extract. If your thermostat keeps calling for heat in heat pump mode and the temp keeps falling inside, then your gas furnace should kick on automatically to supplement the heat. If it does this three times, the heat pump will lock out for 2 hours.

Older HP's suck after 40 degrees and even RV newer ones....They usually have back up heat sources, either gas or electric after 40degrees....I'm a semi retired HVAC man and there were always complaints about the heating on air to air heat pumps...The cooler the air, the less heat that be draw out of that air...Newer ones have been improved, for the home, but not on RV's.

Where is that located on the trailer? My boyfriend and I are living in a trailer and it's our first real experience with intention to rent to own.

I have a Rv and the heating system is operated by a remote. Seems to work fine, however after I turn the system off (by the remote)the fan continues to go on and off constantly. Why would this happen. Went to the trailer after about a week anf the fan was on after a short while I went off, must be doing this all the time. Can anyone help?

my rv is 20 months old , the thermostats do not have any power, the breakers and fuses ar ok, the ac/furnace and vent fans will not power up

same here but my thermostat has power. no fan spin up. Im guessing the board and its an 85$ gamble. uuuggg

Try removing the fuse for 15 seconds or so to reset the thermostat. Otherwise on some thermostats there is a button sequence to push/hold to reset it. Should be in your manual or online.

I can't get mine to shut OFF! Gotta go shut off the propane to get it to stop. Big hassle in the rain.

I think the exhaust design is poor. the fresh air coming into the RV is being tainted by the propane exhaust right below the fresh air intake. I feel sick when I use it.
