I'm so glad the RV Junk fee issue is finally being addressed and made more transparent. Some of the larger national dealerships are the worst at adding last minute junk fees and putting customers through the "business / finance manager" scam. I only deal with RV dealers that offer an "out the door" price, which unfortunately, are only a few.

Junk fees are all over the place. I even had a dealer try to charge a documentation fee when I was buying a utility trailer... like it was an automobile! The total extras added 30% to the price of the trailer. I politely declined and went to a dealer that didn't charge the extras.

Another great video, Josh! Kudos to Alliance, for recognizing that their greatest asset is their employees. The math problem thing for the contest, is a loophole, because it's not allowed to be strictly a game of chance. Lol. I'll bet Quebec residents aren't included in the contest. It's a case of the silver lining having a cloud. We have some of the best consumer protection laws around. Unfortunately, because of that, many companies running contests don't want to jump through the extra hoops, so it's usually "Contest is open to all residents of Canada, except Quebec".

Hey Josh! I love, love, love your videos!! Keep up the good, honest work! Anywho, I would assume the “baby boomers” are the largest group or generation. My wife and I are in that group and like most baby boomers, we have retired. In our case, sooner than we had expected to. As with most retirees we don’t have as much income as we did when we were working. This is combined with the crazy price increases of not only life’s necessities but also the higher prices of campers. We have been full-timers for over seven years. We originally bought a brand new 5th wheel which has served us well. We would like to upgrade to a newer or “new to us” unit but the much higher prices coupled with the perceived lower quality has made trading RVs concerning. Not sure what we’re going to do yet. We want to trade up but may be forced to just be satisfied with what we have. 😁 Thanks again Josh! I just wanted to give you my perspective on the RV industry as it affects me. 🙂

Camping World in Massachusetts was adding on freight and preparation fees to the tune of two thousand dollars on a 30K,.I walked out to another place, not getting my hard earned money!!!😅
@rob3812Ай бұрын
That’s why you shop the otd price. Some dealerships say no fees but their prices are 3k higher than the dealer with fees. Shop the otd price and buy the lowest otd. Problem solved. For instance Bishs will have the same coach listed for 2k higher with no fees and camping world will have it listed for 2k lower but at the end of the purchase they will end up at the same price. Do your homework
@tylertalkstraveltrailers20 күн бұрын
@@rob3812 someone understands!!!👆🏻… you are getting charged the fees no matter what! Some dealerships itemize it and some just raise the price. I personally would rather it be itemized so I can see how much I’m actually paying for prep and freight. Because no matter what you are paying for them.

As a Canadian used to answering these "skill-testing questions" when entering or winning a prize, it comes down to our quirky laws under the Competition Act and our Criminal Code - basically, games of pure chance (aka lotteries, promotional give-a-ways) are illegal and adding a skill-testing question makes it a "mixed chance and skill" - which avoids being off-side of our laws. Guess that's our trade-off for not having to pay taxes on anything we win :-)

Growing up we did a lot of tent camping then switched to cabins. Cabins were adequate, but not luxury. With our kids we tended to stay in a park lodge or went backpacking. Never had enough long trips to make an RV an economical choice, even given the cost of a lodge or hotel. When I retired, we thought about getting an RV, but the quality to price ratio is just too lopsided right now.

Last year my wife and i toured Australia, mainly Victory and Southern Australia. We took the Great Ocean highway from Melbourne to Adelaide, taking about two weeks to cover the distance. We stayed primarily in cabins at various camping and rv sites, and had a great experience using these cabins. Far less cost than hotel stays, and the cabins having kitchens meant we didn't have to splurge on restaurants unless we felt like it. The cabins we stayed in did not have daily maid service. They were cleaned and stocked when you arrived but not serviced until you let. A pretty good system when you're only staying a couple of nights at each location. Overall I recommend using cabins for a trip where pulling an rv is not practical. By the way, many of the cabins (not all) were Jayco park models.

Interesting to hear you bring up using an RV in place of motels/hotels. My wife is retired, I retire in March and we just bought a new camper. One of the main reasons for the purchase is to avoid motels/hotels while traveling. It’s also a benefit because we will be traveling with 2 dogs. We do also enjoy & want to camp as well. FYI: we purchased a new 2023 model designed for couples and obviously its price was reduced , saving considerable $.

On the RV vs Hotel vs Cabin question, after 30 plus years of traveling, RV wins out. Mostly for the simple reason that once you "pack in", then your no longer physically lugging all you stuff around in order to have fun. And yes, to your point, each one has an advantage over the other depending on the trip. I will say having our RV at Fort Wilderness was a game changer with the kids verses staying in one of the on property hotels for Disney. The ability to have a quiet breakfast with the family, or pop back to the campground for an afternoon at the pool, walking under the canopy of trees was lovely. If time efficiency is the #1 priority for a trip, then Hotel's IMHO would be the way to go. Cabin's fall in-between trip efficiency and pure trip experience , where RV'ing would be the #1 experience priority for us.

Hey Josh lots of great updates. Definitely for us that are in the market for an RV. I do like the fact that these big manufacturers are finally getting a clue that they need to focus on their own folks as well as customer service. Let’s hope it sticks! As for the solar at this point, I don’t know that it’s going to make a huge difference with the tariffs going on. But somewhere down the line it’ll bite us in someway. And with everything that has happened this year I truly hope that the RV industry will get a clue and start building hopefully better RVs. It seems like no matter where you go. It’s always bad news when it comes to things breaking on the RVs, whether they’re new or used. Lol and I can’t wait to see those new trailers that you gave a sneak peek too 😂. In 24 we bought a GD xle23 based on the video we watched of you!!! We love it and used it 6 times. Also a deer ran into it on trip 5 lol. At the dealer now getting fixed. I’m would recommend a travel trailer vs a cabin. Love the channel!!

Yea when small local rv dealers started being bought up by major corporate dealers, that is when the car sales tactics started getting tacked in. A couple years ago i was sitting in the finance office to buy a class b rv. Soon as they started playing games, i got up and walked out. I specifically warned them ahead of time i was fully aware of the out the door price. The backdoor smarmy scams is what allowed them to sit on that van for almost another year, until they wholesaled the thing off the lot.

It's always been out there, but now it's just so much more prevalent. Good for you for sticking to your guns in that finance office

Hey Josh, I am glad you touched on the issue of tarrifs, abeit briefly. Sitting up here in Canada, I think the upcoming tariff wars will stop me from buying a new rv this summer. Things will get stupid expensive up here. We may end up purchas9ng from a local manufacturer, Taylor Coach. They are a great product, but they have a long waiting list.😢 Keep up the good work.

I've seen several canadian-based builders starting to sign up US-based dealer bodies this year which surprises me
@j.l.thomas3912Ай бұрын
@JoshtheRVNerd it doesn't really surprise me. The US dollar is so strong that it is cheaper to buy some Canadian made products. The owner of taylor coach told me he has a lot of american customers. He doesn't even advertise. Love your videos, Josh.

Always appreciate your videos and the information you share. Recently sold my 2017 TT and will be looking at getting into a 5th wheel this year. We will see. We really like the Alliance 29rl, but like a few other slightly less expensive models or at least seem to have higher rebates as well. Artic Wolfe 27sgs, Impression 242rd and the 270rk. Interest rates will be a factor as well. Thanks Josh!

Hopefully we start seeing some rate relief to the rv industry. federal rates don't directly affect what we see for RV lending but usually influence RV lending over time
@DM-tf6mkАй бұрын
@JoshtheRVNerd I definitely hope so. I financed my 2017 in mid-2016 at 4 or 4.5 percent. I don't see myself financing my next one at a rate much higher than that if higher at all. As always, appreciate the time you took to put out great videos and information.

Friend of mine went to buy a used rv from camping world. Negotiated a good price of.10,500 on a 5 year old unit. When the final paperwork work hit the desk they where like just sign here here and here good to go. luckily he is an experience negotiator, and read the paperwork which took 20 minutes in front of a very uncomfortable salesperson and of course he found over $5000 of hidden fees, some specifically only for a new unit. He walked away

Josh, how would you say Ember is doing? Doesn't look good from those sales stats.
@EmberRecreationalVehiclesАй бұрын
Ember remains a smaller, independent manufacturer with an emphasis on quality and innovation. Per the numbers Josh shared, Ember retail sales were down a little less than 5% year over year -- with the broader marketplace doing even worse. Based on the down markets in both 2023 and 2024, Ember reduced overall production in 2024, so retail growth was more challenging. But we're excited about the prospects of growth in 2025! We appreciate your interest in our company!

Thanks for the data. I noticed that I traded and bought in March/April 2021. I already saw the unit I was buying go up at a couple dealerships by a couple to four thousand bucks. So, I drove 45 minutes and I found one still at basically the Pre-Covid prices and bought it AND, the used were like hot potatoes so I actually made money on mine getting over a thousand more than I paid for it a 2017 short bunkhouse no slide. I guess I picked that right, but now with the low interest rates of back then I have a great payment but no equity as new prices have dropped down to where I bought mine in 2021 and used have dropped to where if I'm lucky I'd break even. It was interesting to see the unit I bought for like 22,600 with my trade profit going for over 40K MSRP a year or so later... I just shook my head. Glad to see things...somewhat normalizing AND the manufacturers doing something different than ever before. Just wish the 12 volt craze wouldn't have limited my choice of fridges so much... The old tech was just fine and my 30 Gallon tanks never suffered. Just a few observations from an end users point of view...

It was definitely a wild ride for a while. I know guys that have been in sales for 40+ years who never saw anything like it

@@JoshtheRVNerd Are those customers who bought at the sky high prices just stuck? So upside down that they can't even see the light? They must be coming in with a three year old unit they bought for 35,000 and they owe high 20's to 30K on it and the same unit NEW is going for 24/25K... And like me, they had low interest which may have helped them get into it back then, but they also aren't paying it off very fast in terms of principal. I was fortunate to buy low but I'm still at best even on a trade... You may not be able to answer.
