ℹ️ About the Episode:
Even we're surprised to be making a four-part series on California just after making a beeling across the country. We needed to get the Airstream to Vinnie for some much-needed repairs (looking at you, Nova Scotia!), and we thought we'd make a trip out of it. Little did we know just how much fun we'd have between meeting friends along the way and changing our route to visit stunning Sequoia National Park. We should have known that by visiting Jeff & Deb (you'll remember them from our Ragbrai episodes), they'd have our entire SoCal adventure planned out to the hour! We hope their local knowledge will give you good ideas when you visit. But first, we stopped at Palm Springs to visit KYD Insiders Will and Sue. They purchased an RV lot to spend the winters away from the cold and close to their old stomping grounds. What a great way to use an RV during retirement, staying connected with family while keeping the adventurous spirit going.

People would ask us what we did for Christmas living in CA. My father worked Christmas so we would head out to Crystal Cove and cook tacos on the beach. Lifeguard’s would have dinner with us. What a life ❤. PS. No tents or uptown showers….There was a hose hahaha. And surf….water was never too cold

“I got this!”… the experienced RVrs mantra. Until “CRUNCH!” “Where did that come from.” Having been a commercial pilot for 45 years, you learn quickly that when you think you have all the answers, there’s always a new question just waiting to bite you in the butt. Love it when a DIY fix actually works. Our Samsung fridge had a similar issue and a similar fix… ish. Don’t buy Samsung fridge, stoves or dishwashers. Unless you like being a permanent DIY guy. I love your perpetual enthusiasm for all things beautiful. It always uplifts me to watch your videos. Charlie and Caleb in the same video is a real treat!❤

We travel with 2 active dogs. Would love to know ratings on pet facilities like an enclosed play area. Is it big, clean, muddy, have accessories like a tunnel or some other play accessory? Also, any hikes in or near (walking distance) from the campground/campsite? And a body of water they are allowed to play in! Our camping adventures revolve around the sites and our pups! Thanks Trish and Marc!!

Something helpful would be to include the day or days of the week stayed for the review. Some state parks that are on popular spots, often lake related, tend to be noisy with larger groups on weekend nights. Good to know so you can plan to avoid or plan to participate. Walkability and bikeability. We love it when we can set up camp and not have to drive to explore, hike, get to restaurants, etc. State of the bathhouse, if available. We love having an RV with a bathroom but it's a good sign when bathhouses are well-kept. This park looks nice. It looked as if the roadways are paved, even while the sites are not. Paved roadways help cut down so much on noise and dust.

Love your enthusiasm for our home! We are going to get out soon and see what you have been showing us outside of Ca. So excited for our new journeys. I LOVE my 12 volt refrigerator/freezer. No way I could have driven 33 hours across 2.5 days to Yellowstone without it, saved me so much $$$ by not eating out and saved me so much TIME by not having to sit at restaurants. Driving 12-14 hours per day is hard, but when you are burning vacation days, you do, what you got to do...

My cheap fix is that RV oven door that won’t fully close. We priced the replacement or repair and it was crazy high. My wife said just buy strong magnets off of Amazon….. They only cost a couple of dollars…. Three years later we still have the same oven door. Wives sometimes save the day!

One thing that I would really like to know is some parks say they can accommodate a 38 ft. Rig or 40 foot rag but when you actually get there there's trees in the way. It's a very tight space. The length is there but you sometimes when you get to these parks you can't actually physically get the turn to back up the rig. So you can't actually get the size rig into the spot because you literally just can't turn into the spot. But the spot is long enough. Just the entrances spot cannot accommodate That kind of rig. I hope that makes sense

As an RV’er with a larger 5th wheel, I like knowing that a park can accommodate larger RV’s. Especially when it comes to state and county parks, they sometimes prefer smaller rigs. Otherwise, general hook up info is always good. Be safe!!

I think one of the things difficult to determine about a campground, and something I like to know, is how wide the sites are. We stayed at Elkhorn Creek Campground in Frankfurt KY and (even after giving them the size of our rig) they put us in a spot where our slide-outs on our "sewer side" actually extended over our neighbor's picnic table pad. I spoke to the neighbor, and he was so nice and told us not to worry about it. It was so tight we renamed Elkhorn to Shoehorn campground.

We lived in Fresno for over 30 years. Although we couldn’t stand Fresno or the whole Central Valley for that matter, living within 3 hours of driving to 4 national parks (Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon and Pinnacles) and the beach was the reason why we stayed so long. Marc, here's a better way to tow your Suburu without a battery kill switch.Get a small car battery solar charger at Harbor freight.plug it into the12v plug or directly to the battery terminals.Get a 12V digital voltmeter to monitor Suburu battery.I towed a 2001 truck for years with the key in accessory to unlock the steering wheel.Starting outin the a.m. static volts were 11+.After 7-8 hours driving, the voltage was always in the 12+ range.the truck is now 23 years old and only on its 3rd battery!!I put a solar charger on all my cars now.try it , it works. 24:55 The things I'm always interested in where it comes to campsite review/overview is: - price of the campsite per night - what's the ground you're parking on (concrete, asphalt, dirt, grass), and how easy is it to level on - size of the sites, and what services the site has - his easy/hard it is to get in and out of both the park and the site The absolute best park I'd ever been to was a state park in Wagoner, Oklahoma. The sites were full service (water, power, sewage), perfectly leveled concrete pads to park and set up on, for only $25/night. It was amazing!

Our caravan is 6 years old and has a 12v compressor fridge/freezer. It has never missed a beat and has been run on both AGM and Lithium batteries. I definitely prefer a 12v as opposed to LPG in our extremely hot temperatures in Western Australia as the LPG struggles to cool 20°C below ambient temperature. Good luck with your fridge, keeping fingers crossed that you have solved your problems! I have followed you since you started, for me you provide a travel show of America, I see sights that I could only dream of visiting one day!

Hi again, just a couple of comments on the 12v fridge. Our previous trailer had one, and it as well failed. It was actually within the first year that we owned the trailer. Dealer could not solve the problem, so they simply changed it out (under warranty) and gave us a new fridge. With our current trailer we went back to the 2 way electric/propane. Yes it is a bit smaller so clearly holds less stuff, but it is plenty big for two of us travelling on extended trips. 12v fridge was okay, but as you say it draws steady power. If you are plugged in then no worries at all, but if you do any off grid camping and don't want to carry a generator, then you will need a significant battery bank and significant solar array. Absolute minimum 200+ amp/hours of battery power, and a couple hundred watts of solar....and sunshine. No matter how many solar panels you have, you are virtually battery only on a cloudy day. That fridge will be eating up 50-75 amp hours of your battery every 24 hours no matter what.

Campground info - for me, I’d love to see and hear about the dog amenities - dog park, etc.. and the immediate area access - can you bike to local grocery/coffee shop, etc. or do you need a car. You always talk about trails and outdoor/physical activities in the area - maybe rate the amount of different hikes, bike paths, is there a pickleball court near by?

Good to see Charlie back. Would like to know in campground reviews if they are big rig friendly, like over 40'.

We have a pop-up (hoping to step up to a small trailer soon) and are always interested in the bathroom/shower and laundry facilities. Love your videos. Enjoy living vicariously through you guys! Safe Travels!

You’re exactly right on the Southwestern Chicken salad at Chick Fil A. Get it with the spicy grilled chicken for the heat & the avocado lime dressing for the cool & it can’t be beat! Palm Springs looked awesome.

Do you have their app. It's unreal how many there are. thats how we find them. I joke that there is an anytime within 7 miles from where ever I'm standing. Most of the time, that is true.
