In 1973, I had a Des Moines Register paper route. I was reading all week about the "great bike ride". On Saturday I got my dad to take me to Williamsburg, the last overnight town, with my new 10 speed bought with my paper route money. There were eighty riders ,EIGHTY. Nobody had ever seen such a thing. I rode the last day of the ride. It's amazing to see what RAGBRAI has become.

My favorite thing about this video is Trish in the mornings. I like that she didn’t try to look like she was up and raring to go. She just got of bed and turned on the camera. That is why KYD feels so authentic. It makes me trust Leach family even more.

I grew up in Nebraska and remember hearing about RAGBRAI, so I turned on this episode for my kids to learn about this fun event. Then the Winston clips had them asking about cerebral palsy, so our homeschool day took a turn to learn about that as well. So much heartwarming inspiration packed into this one - I teared up multiple times!

I am not a big KYDer. I have watched a lot of your videos but not every week. But I had to watch all of this one. My daughter lives in Des Moines, about a mile from Water Works Park. I have done RAGBRAI 4 times, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2021. Really love it. Small town mid West is the best. Love the people! I generally stayed away from the big commercial vendors, and went with the small town groups raising money to support what ever they did. Churches, schools, fire departments, etc. My main goal each day was to find at least 1 slice of pie. I learned to start my day at first light, on the road before sunrise. Beat the heat and the over crowded roads. I always camped and wanted to find a shady spot to pitch my tent to relax on the hot afternoons. But I never started at 4AM! You got to ride through the stadium, I think it was 2018 when I did that. You didn't mention how hot it was this year, I heard it was a hot one! Congrats on finishing RAGBRAI. I am planning on doing it in 2024, might be my last, I'll be 72 then. Maybe I'll see you there!

Loving this! We lived in Iowa for ten years. Ragbrai was such a big thing. It was so exciting whenever it came through our town. We had little kids at the time, so we never got to experience it as riders. But I have an uncle and cousins who have done it. I can’t wait until next week’s episode. I’m too far up in South Dakota now to help out, otherwise I’d definitely open up my yard and RV to the bikers, but I absolutely loved seeing the locals joining in on the road! The kids with the water hoses were awesome!! Lol Actually, my Dr rode in it this year and he rescheduled my appointment! I want to do this soooooo bad!!! I’m coming off a knee injury and missed most of my cycling season (May to July) and only did my second real ride clipped in last week. I saw this episode on Sunday but didn’t have the heart to watch it until today. I will ride again Sunday and tackle some minor hills to see if my knee truly is ok. My brother has done the ride for ten years -- but he really roughs it by tent camping, which I think is a whole other experience. I started out gaming on a NES and a DOS 486 with games like Lemmings, Indy 500, Oregon Trail, and Sims City. Between me and my friends growing up we had all the consoles and all the games. We used to system link xbox for multy player Halo CE. I just happened to be sick for two days after Halo 2 came out. But for me the 360 was the last GREAT console. When the Xbox One one out and PS4 I couldn't. For the money PC was it and I went back to PC in 2013 and never looked back. I still use my 360 and always will.
