Another great video, thank you. We have had our 2500RL for 3.5 years and haven't had any major problems yet just small troubles. We did have some broken screws and a leaking P-trap under the kitchen sink. I repaired the broken screws and GD sent the new P-trap parts for the repair. Like you, I don't want the trailer sitting at the dealership for repairs I can make. We were fortunate that the dealership did do the propane regulator replacement for us the day we brought it in. It took them less than an hour. Also, like you guys, we haven't found a couples coach we like as much as the 2500RL.

We took delivery of our 2800RL in Feb 2021 and have experienced many of the same issues you have. Our gas regulator was over pressureizing all appliances. Too much heat, only high on the stove, water heater was a blow torch. I ordered and replaced the regular myself and later took the old one to the dealer who said mine was not on the recall. We warranty replaced the front door which would not close from delivery day. The refrigerator cooling system was also warrantied. Just replaced the springs, upgraddng to five leafs. Old ones lost their arch on the right side, resulting in abnormal tire ware. Several broken screws, including one holding a bracket for the slide frame on the front inside. I also had trouble with the waste tanks termination valves sticking. I lube them every use. We really love our Imagin, especially the floor plan. Our last trip was the first time nothing broke, so maybe the break-in period is over.

@OverTheHillAdventures Жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy, the Schwintek slides do not need to lubricant. You just make sure the tracks are clean. I use the CRC lubricant on the runners behind the rubber seals and by the actual motor. Also If you look there are small rectangular pieces that run in slots below the Schwintek rails. I put one squirt of CRC lubricant on those upper and lower. The rubber seal treatment goes on the rubber flaps. I have never used sealant in the three years we have owned ours. I hope this all makes sense. I have really enjoyed your videos and your Imagine. I purchased a 2500rl and brought it home this past Monday. On Tuesday, I leveled it and attempted to operate the slide. It would not extend. I contacted Grand Design and was really disappointed. Customer service at Grand Design stated that it wasnt their problem and there was nothing the could or wouldnt do. I contacted the dealer which is three hours away and got an appointment but have to drive there. A real bummer! I was and still am very disappointed in the attitude of Grand Designs customer service. There is a closer dealer (5minutes away). However since I didnt buy it from them they are unwilling to work on it. I did ask Grand Design if they would intercede on my behalf but was told NO. It is not their problem. I was told by the dealer that Grand Design sometimes authorizes a mobile repair service but Grand Design informed me that I would have to pay for it.

The reason why is your trailer gets towed behind a truck from the manufacturer to the dealer. These delivery people don’t care how the drive or what they driver over. Here are a couple things to look for: 1) Make sure the frame looks good. Look for cracks anything bent. 2) Have them put your slide in and out and makes sure it works properly. 3) Have them turn on all appliances. One thing we are concerned about is summertime and heat. Do you find that the AC keeps the RV cool enough? We recently went to Camping World to look at some models. They do not sell Grand Design, so they showed us the Cougars, which we surprisingly liked. The other concern is weight and figuring it all out. I noticed the sales rep was giving me false or misleading information about a few things and one was how much I can tow. They like to harp on dry weight and always stray back to that, when I talked about my trucks limits(F150). Its so aggravating. Also she was pushy. She kept saying that the manfacturing plant cannot keep up with demand🙄. Meanwhile her lot was absolutely packed with unsold units😂. I was born at night, but not last night. Anyway, I love finding channels such as yours. How else would we find this tips, tricks and experiences? Thank you!

I can tell you they will tell you anything to buy. With an F150 you are very limited on what you can tow. Can you tow our trailer? Absolutely!! However, you have to watch how much you load in your truck and how much you can load in your trailer. The Grand Design 2500RL gross weight so they say is 7,400lbs with full propane tanks and two batteries it will be more like 8,000lbs. Your tongue weight will be closer to 900lbs. Check your payload on your truck. I’m guessing it’s pretty close to 1,800lbs. Doesn’t matter what they say how much you can tow your payload is what kills the deal to tow safely. With 900lbs tongue weight, that only gives you another 900lbs for people in your vehicle and the stuff you put in the back of your truck. Most folks tow overweighted. I was OCD when it came to weight when I had my half ton. Our truck towed it just fine as long as you watch your weight. Please reach out anytime. More than happy to help in your process. @@OverTheHillAdventures ; Yes, Ive been driving my wife crazy, talking about weights. Unfortunately my trucks payload is 1691lbs.. Another problem is, I want to put a 400lb motorcycle in my bed. My dreams are being dashed one pound at a time😂. I think I can make it work, just with a smaller trailer. Buying a bigger truck is just not an option because of the insane prices of them. $70k is the low side of the 3/4 tons. In a perfect world with “normal” pricing, that would be the answer. Funny how when I purchased my truck two years ago, I had zero intention of pulling an RV🤦♂️, so it was fine for my needs. Ugh. I saw that you retired from law enforcement. Congrats! I retired from NYPD years ago. Now living in NC.

Harlo, well after my power cord was burned up I got a surge protector so now it just shuts the power off. So I would say hand full of times. Just takes one to blow your components. Thanks for your comment and watching are video. Stan and Rhonda

@@harloh9578 for the longest time I never used a surge protector. Once I saw the damage a bad pedestal at a campground could do, I never leave home with out it. The surge protector will shut the power off to your RV if there is a power surge, low voltage, a bad ground or even a bad neutral wire. The components of RV’s are highly technical and costly if one of these things happen. Thank you for you question. Conversation like these help people. Thank you!

Same problem with the air and heat. I pulled the sensors out but no luck. The air conditioner doesn’t shut offf, it turns on the heat make it warmer.

Hi Tom, make sure the the fan setting is on auto. The air conditioner should not come on when the heater is on. The heater has it’s own fan. I can say the heater is working good not sure about air conditioner it has not been hot enough. Thank you for your comment. Hope this helps. Stan and Rhonda

@@OverTheHillAdventures Yeah, we used auto mode but that makes it worse. We only used dry mode…and that didn’t adhere to any temp settings. We taped up air plenum at Recco of dealer. Dealer was supposed to call Grand Failure….I mean Grand Design and get back to me…..Nothing. Grand design told me to bring it to the dealer.
@OverTheHillAdventures2 жыл бұрын
@@tomsacchetti7703 I’m a little confused. You have a totally different problem. We only use dry mode to dry up the condensation off of the windows. Otherwise our setting is either on cool or heat. I know your extremely frustrated. Do you have Instagram or Facebook? If you can send me your number on messenger I can call you. If your on heat mode the air conditioner fan should not be on. If it does come on your fan setting is wrong. Dry mode has a mind of its own. I’m not sure if I can help but I would like to try. Stan

@@OverTheHillAdventures the heater works fine. It started with the air conditioners freezing up. The icing sensors were not on the fins. I put them on the fins and it didn’t ice up. We taped up plenum to reduce leaks and improve efficiency and relocated temp sensors outside of plenum as you did. Now the air conditioner won’t shut when it reaches temp…..it keeps going…..and umtimalry it gets so cold it turns heat on when in AC mode…..so both will run simultaneously. On fry mode in Florida heat, it cools the entire space, but it too will just keep making it colder and colder.

What do you use as a tow vehicle? 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton?
@OverTheHillAdventures Жыл бұрын
Hello Art, when this video was made we were towing with a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. We have recently purchased a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Turbo Diesel. There was huge difference between the two trucks. Our payload was so close with the 1/2 ton that I always weighed and made sure we were never over weight. With the new truck we are so underweight with our payload we don’t even think about weight anymore. I set and forget it. The new truck is a monster! Thank you for your question I hope this helps. @@OverTheHillAdventures Thanks. We have a 2500 RL on hold and will probably pull the trigger next week. I’ll be towing this year with an F150 crew. The 5 liter V8 will probably be a bit anemic but should get us to a couple of hours to the lake and back. Plan on getting a new truck next year. Will at least get the 3.5 L Eco-boost engine, but may also consider a 3/4 ton.

@@artfisher1615 you won’t have any problems. We towed the first year all over the Pacific Northwest with our Crewcab 1/2 Ton. I usually travel with little water and fill close to our destination. My payload on my 1/2 ton was 1,835 lbs. There wasn’t a whole lot of wiggle room. If you do get a 3/4 ton later on definitely a Ford or Chevy they have the higher payload. Congratulations on being part of the Grand Design family you will love the 2500RL. Stan

Get a keystone next time. I had a sprinter for 14 years and never did anything except normal maintenance. I’ve heard a lot of things are wrong with the quality of Grand Design. The price point is nearly the same. Grand Design are expensive and the quality isn’t there. Screws breaking off is a big deal! Just so you know. I traveled a lot we lived in that camper all summer long when my kids were young. That keystone had a ton of wear and tear. We used it. Problem is people for some reason don’t expect quality anymore. It’s nonsense. Demand it. This junk they are turning out for 40,000 is crazy. If your going to pay that kind of money expect something for it.

Cheryl, Thank you for the suggestion on checking out the Keystones. We actually had bought a Jayco prior to this trailer and decided to sell it because we needed a little more space. We did a lot of homework and research 🧐 before buying the one we have now and still feel confident we made the right choice for us. We are grateful for all the places it has allowed us to travel comfortably. You never know, when it’s time to upgrade we may consider other trailer makes if it fits our needs. 🤔 ~ Rhonda and Stan

So we purchase the top of the line travel trailers for $60,000 ( Canadian dollars ) and they are not designed to get pulled down the road more than once or twice a year ? Sorry but I dont agree with that comment these "high end " trailers should be built to last for years not just till they are off warranty , I did not by a Jayco , I bought Grand design for its quality and it should be built to last ....

Hello Paul, we have 33,000 miles on our 2021 Grand Design Imagine. We have put more miles on our trailer than most. Recreational Vehicles were invented for vacations. Today more folks live in them full time than ever before. We have not had a single major issue with our Grand Design. We love our Grand Design we have camped and RV for 30 years. It so important to do periodical maintenance and check your rig before every trip. Little things will always go wrong no matter what brand of RV you have. Every RV in the industry use the same components. The same water heater, the same refrigerator, the air conditioner, the same frame ect. However, there is nothing like the Grand Design family. You won’t find that anywhere! Hope you have a wonderful day. Blessings, Stan and Rhonda
