Truck driving for well over 30 years... The pressure in your RV tires will fluctuate from cold at night to the heat of the day. It's good to monitor your tires to make sure pressure doesn't drop too much, but unless you have a leak, you shouldn't have to constantly change the air pressure. I usually adjust mine back and forth between winter and summer driving (every six months). You don't need to carry a big compressor for those rare occasions. Just stop at a truckstop, where they have air available for big truck tires. If your tire gets low while traveling; just air it up with your small compressor to it's limit, then limp on in to a place where they have a big compressor.

I’ve used tire slime with great results to prevent flats

That was a very interesting episode Rebecca. We start to get to see some of the core purpose of this journey: you know the fun stuff! Don’t get me wrong … I very much like the DIY as well. I carry a max 120 psi hand held air pump in my hybrid pu. The thing about the handhelds is that while it can put out the higher psi, the tire pressure pushes back so with these little compressors, doing the high psi takes forever. But with your RV weight concerns perhaps the trade off in convenience is a worthwhile sacrifice?

thanks for the info on the hand held air tire pump. That’s helpful. I think i may have found a fire pressure monitor system (TPMS) that i like.

Wonderful capture of your adventures Rebecca. Concerning your E bike tires I am wondering if you have the option to go to “tubeless”. That is how almost everybody here rides their mountain bikes in the bikes, and I wouldn’t consider riding with a tube here because of the trouble that I would have like you are having
@RVLifeNOW6 ай бұрын
good to know about tubeless tires Dave. I may see how long these spare tubes go and then get a tubeless tire if that slime some of the others have spoken of .

I went to college in west Texas (Lubbock) and the only solution I found to bicycle flats was tire liners.

i will have to google that :) Having a bike on an RV definitely involves a bit if work :)

I ran my motorized bicycle (4 stroke, gas powered) on the Tucson mesa for nearly 9 months. I ran Slime in my tubes so when the thorns worked their way into the tube the Slime would seal the hole. I tried running tire liners to keep the thorns out and they worked but I stopped using them because they would abrade the tube on the liner overlap and the Slime would not seal that. I guess I could have covered the overlap with heavy tape but decided to just take them out instead. The Blue Rhino liners I used took forever to get laid properly into the tire. I am in WV with the machine now and as stated, only run the slime with no liner. There are no thorns here to worry about as there were on the mesa. So happy to see you still having fun in your travels good lass.

thanks so much for that information… Yes will need to do something a bit different with my bike tires if this happens again. I’m gonna hope it was just what happens to bike tires in Texas
@melee4016 ай бұрын
@@RVLifeNOW It will happen again if you ride where those goat head thorns are. The thorns break off spines that work their way into the inner tube. The 'thorn proof' heavier tubes do nothing to stop them. I carried a small hand pump to replace the little air lost before the Slime sealed the holes. The Slime sealant is good for 2 years. You have to pull the valve stem to inject the slime into the tube. I had no real problems when I used Slime. Still though, the tubes should be replaced every few years. The holes left by the thorns are easy enough to patch. The Slime gets in the way of patching though. You have to clean the Slime that leaked out with gasoline or something before you try to put a patch over the Slime that leaked out. I put thousands of miles on my machine over the mesa. The rear tire was a far larger problem than the front. I just changed out the tubes with the rear tire when it was worn down. My machine came with airless inserts (not tubes). Those turned into a nightmare of their own. They resulted in the rims wearing through the sidewalls of the tires long before the tread was worn down.

Try lower RV pressures. So much better for comfort. The E350 we rented in the states was terrible till we dropped it a lot. You know it's right when they get quite warm driving, but not too hot to hold. Hi from Razzle Dazzle now in Malta
@RVLifeNOW6 ай бұрын
Interesting. I thought that causes incorrect wear though… How low compared to recommended from manufacturer specs? Mine is loaded to maximum weight… so thought it’s important to compensate for that so that the tires can actually hold all that weight? Mine are specked at 83 when cold. I can’t get them much past 75 when cold.
@adrenalineissues6 ай бұрын
@@RVLifeNOWPressure, Temperature and Weight are very closely related. You are really chasing “temperature”. Not too hot, but getting pretty warm is about right. Say 40-45c. If hotter, add air, cooler, reduce. The ride is worth it esp if it’s dual on the rear.

Not how i meant it at all. I don’t like relying on the favors of anyone…. but more importantly if i break down and have to ask for help, and wait for help well that’s not always safe… Better to just be self sufficient and not have to wait around for help of something that could easily be solved quickly by myself.

As a proud South African you should read Julia Albu's book: My African Conquest: Cape to Cairo. At the age of 80 she drove from Cape Town to Cairo in her trusty Toyota Conquest. Incredible story. Plucky lady!
