I love the Admiral Drive-In! As a little history on it, it was originally built in 1951, before the nearby highway was even built, and has been owned by the same family since the 1980s. It was shown in the movie "The Outsiders". In 2010, it burned down, but luckily they rebuilt it and opened back up! As a local, it is definitely one of my favorite places. It is nice to see Tulsa through the eyes of someone who has not lived here their whole lives.

I was born and raised in Tulsa also and just a few blocks from the mother road. When the 11th street bridge got made back in the early 1900s then it was the first bridge that a automobile could cross to get over the long Arkansas River that run from the Rockies in Colorado to the the Mississippi River where it run out at. Being the only way for the north to get to the south with an automobile then that really made a well worn-path that became Route 66.

Native Tulsan here, You forgot to mention the Admiral Twin is where a scene from The Outsiders was filmed! Plus you didn't go to the Outsider's house! The Admiral showtime days do vary from season to season. Great video, I am glad Tulsa has begun embracing it's Route 66 history.

That food looks so delicious, french toast, pancakes and cinnamon roll (just about a meal in itself). Root (Route) Beer for Route 66. Got it. I have heard both, sorda and pop, and even Soda Pop. Love the drive-in, and I sure remember those speaker boxes that hang on your window, roll it down, but not all the way, and hang it on the window, like the trays at the drive-in restaurants, like A & W. There used to be an A & W restaurant and a drive-In movie theatre in Logan, Utah, and been to both while I was attending USU back in the late 70's early 80's. But I figured you would have the stereo station to play the soundtrack from the movies these days, and since you have a good speaker system in your vehicle, that is always nice. One of my room mates had a VW Campter bus, and we backed in and laid on the bus's bed and watched the movie (I can't remember what movie it was).

I used to live in Tulsa but only went to the Admiral Twin one time, to see the premiere of Twister, which was filmed in and around Tulsa. Mention has been made here that The Outsiders was filmed in the Tulsa area. I used to work at Boston Ave. Church in downtown Tulsa and a brief scene was filmed outside the church. BA church was considered an architectural must see and we had many architects who would pay a visit to Tulsa just to see it.

Tulsa is my favorite city because I’m a Hanson fan! I’ll be there this weekend for 2 more Hanson concerts. Their recording studio is downtown, across the street and down the road from Ida Red. The Gathering Place is amazing. Also they have also been filming a Martin Scorsese/Leo DiCaprio/Robert De Niro film in and around Tulsa.
