RV Norcold Ice Maker Replacement

This video is how we replaced the icemaker in our RV's Norcold refrigerator. The way we did this saved us over $100 in the parts. If you wish to do the same project, we ask that you follow the safety precautions of anyone working with tools and electricity.
Update:
This refrigerator would last another 2 months before an ammonia leak would mean it had reached the end of it's service life. As we kept all of the parts from the Ice Maker we were able to move it to the new refrigerator we installed. Click the link below to see that video.

Thank y'all so much. Our ice maker went out in our Norcold fridge so I looked on Amazon for an original replacement. I found one and it was going to set me back about 170 dollars. I happened up on your KZbin video, went to Lowes found the model in the video, replaced the unit with minimal effort. The 46 dollar unit started making ice. Thank again, I will check back with y'all the next time a problem arises. John Price Texas

Thank you!! I replaced the ice maker in my RV following your instruction, and it worked like a champ! The ice maker was in stock at Lowe's for $49.99. The wiring identification was very helpful. I used butt splices and shrink tube to connect the wiring. My solenoid was good, so now I have a spare. Thanks again!

Did you cut the connectors off the new ice maker and existing RV wires? Installing now.

@@rney100 yes and connected appropriately. Got water and ice froze but the bottom was not able to move it. Used a tiny bit of warm water to free them and got one cycle. Now ice is not freezing

Thanks for the great tutorial. The ice maker in my old Norcold fridge, in my 2000 Monaco Diplomat, hasn't worked since I bought the motor home used two years ago, but using ice trays was not an issue for me. My old fridge is not self defrosting, so while defrosting it, I pulled out the old icemaker using your video to show me where the mounting screws were. Gross is not the word for the cube tray in the old unit. Even if I never replace it, getting that 17 year old nasty machine out of my freezer is a blessing. I am going to look into the Lowes unit though. Thank you.

Thank you for the comment. Making it easier for others to do things is why we have this channel. One thing I learned about ice makers in doing this replacement is that they are not designed to last more than a few years. The coating that makes it not corrode wears off and then the ice mold will get very rough from the corrosion, then it goes down hill from there.

I replaced the ice maker last year with one bought off amazon but it was susceptible to corrosion and quit. Just bought this exact same ice maker at Lowe's today and your research on the wiring saves me a bunch of time. Hopefully this one lasts longer.

Great instructions, especially the wiring conversion. Made it a snap. I also cut off the connectors and used butt splices. Bought the replacement ice maker from Loews. My ice maker was leaking in the compartment, giving me very few ice cubes and a lot of ice overflow. Tried what seemed like an easier fix replacing the solenoid (and what made sense since it controls water flow), but that did not solve the problem, this did the trick. BTW, the solenoid from the replacement was not an exact fit and mount, so did spend the extra $ to buy the Norcold replacement. Mounting screws and bracket were an exact fit, just like the video says.

awesome Video , I live for the old saying there are Many Ways T o Skin ACat ! And I’ve been a Boat and Camper Owner for years That Universal kit you found is even cheaper in price than I found on EBay , years ago I was building new houses for a living and we used General Electric Appliances as luck would have it GE. Wound up sending a Ice maker kit without the Solenoid when I called them about it the\y told me they would send another one and I could keep the first one at no charge so I took that one home to install inmy kitchen Fridge as luck would have it my neighbor also in Construction remodeled a home that had all Sub Zero Appliances they were replacing with another brand he knew I needed a Solenoid and pulled one off the Subzero it was a perfect fit and worked on that Fridge for almost 20 years ironically now I can’t live without a Ice Maker for my Adult Beverages so I appreciate the 50 dollar Universal,one you pointed out I think the General Electric Ones I did buy were over one hundred dollars each just about 10 years ago and I don’t think that changed over the years

Well Thank You for your videoing efforts - I just searched Lowes and that part is no longer listed but it looks exactly like the Frigidaire Icemaker Kit Item # 655222 Model # IM116000 and I just bought - it is waiting for my pickup tomorrow. Will try and remember to come back and comment on how it works out. Incidentally - reading the gross comment below reminded me to share a trick - when we come back from a trip I turn off the water pump - open a faucet to drain the pressure - then dump the ice - replace the tray - let the ice maker dump the ice - empty the ice - turn off the fridge - and leave the doors open so it all drys out. (if frosted up I'll leave a fan blowing for a day.) When the ice tray is dry nothing grows in it.

Found this job a little more tedious than video shows , didn't like the way he put in the wiring , I used butt connectors . My replacement was very tight against the water fill side but it did fit . I tried to find the correct connector for wiring but no luck there . all together several hrs labor and saved 100$ well worth the time
