Thats a silly question for a solar system on a rv. The point of solar on a rv is to be able to go anywhere at anytime and have power. Only a house solar system would a pay off be a question worth asking.

if you source everything yourself and understand how to diy everything, its about 1-2 years when youre offsetting fuel at 4$/gal. about 4-6 years if youre offsetting home utility use. unfortunately labor is just so crazy expensive in the US that a lot of these systems will never break even. its kind of like repairing an old car. you are making doctor money by doing any kind of repair yourself but its probably not worth it if you have to hire out the work.

@@vevenaneathna Any payback figures have to take into account use, I can't believe there would ever be a strictly cost payback, unless you do it yourself and figure the cost of boondocking vs full hook up resorts and nearly full time at that! 48V is great though, it doesn't have to be "extreme" on the cost scale, late 2024 there are 3kw all in one inverter, charger, solar controller units under $1k and a 5kwh battery a little over $1k, and not a whole lot else needed to convert an existing system. With a big enough solar system, use a small 12v converter to the chassis and put all the 12V loads on the chassis.

Finally, someone does what I dream of doing one day. Mounting the panels on a raised rail and not putting all those holes in the roof. It also provides a lot of shade on the roof with it full of panels and that means less air-conditioning needed to begin with. Throw in 48v and you are set for boon docking heaven. Great job!!!

That was awesome. I'm also planning on a 48V system for my RV for spring of next year. I just ordered a Quattro 48/10000/140 100/100 120V inverter/charger and 4 of the BBGC3 Battleborns. I should be getting those next week. For now, I'll be using them for backup power in my sticks and bricks in case I lose power this winter. But, early next spring, they'll go into the RV and I'll be hitting the road to explore this beautiful country of ours. Yea. When I was planning on my large investment into the charger and batteries, others said why not wait a few years until the prices come down. Well, at 66 years old, it is dangerous to wait for tomorrow before enjoying things. We work all our lives. Just finished our 48v install with six 5120Wh server rack batteries, 5000W Victron inverters (x2), replaced all 3 AC's with Furrion adaptive speed AC units, 13 250w Rich Solar panels connected to our 10KW Onan generator. It was expensive but it seems to work great so far! Chose to leave out the alternator option because when we did the load analysis on the engine charging the batteries at 90A, it cost less gas to run the generator while driving by about 12%. Same with us as being 'all in'. We haven't spent a night in our diesel pusher (we'll be full-timing it), so we're very much alike! Jean at Off-Grid RV did an amazing job and provided a quality wiring diagram for our RV bumper to bumper warranty provider.

I was so excited for you both and have been waiting to watch all of the changes that you’ve made. It so nice to see that you’ve tried to maximise the solar energy available to you and allow you both to rv in total comfort from now on, and all without compromising the integrity of the roof itself. Not drilling any holes is so impressive in itself to accommodate everything, my only concern is regarding the future maintenance of the roof and accessories on it, i.e. ensuring it’s weatherproof and being able to seal anything that will require annual maintenance etc... I was asked by the techs at Newell about solar installations and I asked why the industry install solar like it currently does, i.e. placing solar panels side by side. I suggested that instead they design it a different way. One where the panels could be placed in a rack (on top of each other and end to end) that can then be moved to cantilever not only over the roof area when access to the roof isn’t required but, also extended and cantilevered over the other way, i.e. over the side of the extended rv awnings. I can’t wait to see you both enjoying the fruits of your labour from this side of the pond here in England (Brexitland 🇪🇺🤭), take care y’all, party 🎉 🎈 time. 🤗👍🏻😉

Great system guys, if you don't mind a few questions: 1. how did you get the solar power from the roof to the basement? 2. Approximately how much weight did you add to the roof? The position of this weight would move the CG in the vertical position, have you noticed any change in side-to-side motion especially when going around a curve? Did you contact Newmar engineering to get advise on the extra weight up on the roof? Obviously this was expensive, is it possible to provide some information on the cost of the components and labor? I don't know how you feel about providing more technical information for those of us who are interested in such stuff but I, and perhaps others, would like to know more technical information such as why did you go with the external BMS versus the batteries with the internal BMS and if these batteries have internal heating ability why the external bay heaters? Thanks for you great videos.

Hello well im starting my solar adventure with an Ecoflow Delta Pro and 10 200 watt panels for my 40 feet RV, those roof air conditioners are a joke on any RV, im thinking about going the mini split route but i already have a couple of Kapsul Air Conditioners, those things use a fractions of the energy, and i think the best for heating would be the famous 'Chinese Diesel Heater' that uses a fraction, well who know if there is ever any apocalypse type of scenario, only a few will surive, great info in your vid, enjoy ur RV :)

I have 57 panels for my house, I had no idea that this is possible. I know that your business is none of mine but would you be willing to give us somewhere in the ballpark idea of what this setup costs. Or a half setup. It is all about the "Freedom ". Helping the environment? BONUS! etc etc. Looking forward to more of your videos

Sorry, we sent quite a bit of $ on the system but know that everyone needs to do it their way & may not need to spend what we did. We don’t want to discourage folks from looking into it. Thanks for understanding & we do appreciate you watching & commenting.

Love the set up!! Learning a lot from ya'll. Just a question about if you encounter hail how will it stand up to it?

So what was the cost??
@rvamericayall Жыл бұрын
A lot! 😂 Really not relevant now because it was totally custom to us and the cost on everything has changed so much since we did it. Don’t want to discourage someone to look into it for their needs & get a price for what they need!

After hearing your explanations for your solar panels , it seems to me this should be an add on for all motor homes. I didn’t know of those restrictions and obstacles that can occur in motor homes.

We are really happy with the solar and lithium modifications, but it does add to the cost. And a lot of RVers only go to campgrounds where they are plugged into power.

I have a 40 ft motorhome with 4,350 watts of solar, 15,360 watts of battery (48 volt system), and a 6,000 watt 240/120 split phase inverter. been running it for 2 years, in sunny parts of the US I save about $75 a month on shore power bill. Went boondocking out west for 27 straight days, only solar for power. System has been working good, I can run AC, electric hot water, heat pump, what ever I need on solar. The cost was $8k with no labor.

I have 2040 watts on my 28' travel trailer, which I had no help installing - I can actually add another 200 watts on the roof if I learn to fly
