In this video, we replace the broken tongue jack and add a Jack-E-Up to the Bushwhacker. No more dented tail gates or having to detach the camper to get into the truck bed. Super easy job that has been worth every penny!

It seems to me this would also be an additional anti-theft measure. On the vehicle or when storing the trailer, lower the tongue on some blocks and remove the jack. It’s tough to hitch or unhitch a large trailer without a jack.

Great video. I have the same camper and have been worried about the reliability of the jack. I think I'm going to upgrade it before it fails now. I also have a black lab. He rides in the back of the truck in a kennel and under the truck topper. I didn't like not being able to open the tailgate if needed when the camper was hooked up. This looks like it will solve that problem!

Curious if you still like the Jack-E-Up after using it for a while. Also you mention (I think) you could remove the stand and thus prevent someone from taking the trailer but not sure how that would work; or what would you use to hold up the tongue end? Lots of blocks, an adjustable jack-stand or ?? Great channel and I will get you a coffee!

Hey John, I absolutely love this device! It has come in so handy and really improved our experience since owning the camper. If I mentioned a security aspect, I think I was referring to the camper being attached to the tow vehicle. If you lock the jack inside, it is considerably more difficult to remove the camper and attach it to a new vehicle. I didn’t rewatch the video, but I think that’s what I was talking about. Thank you for the coffee!

Well that's one clever device. Thanks for sharing! And thanks for confirming my suspicion that my stinger is probably not long for this world. It's not yet dropping shaving out but it's feeling more janky every time I use it, as if it's about to slip a thread. And I never over-extend it. I'll crib it up before doing that if I need a lot of lift. A better practice for those jacks in general in my opinion. Love the bit about "...and when your kids have to deal with the estate then they can take it to the metal recycling center". Good chuckle on that one. So where's this forum you often mention? I'd like to give it a look.

I purchased a 12rok bushwacker. Picking it up in April. Love your videos as I'm prepping for the camping season here in the great white north. Getting out of the tent scene and this is the first I've owned. You mentioned the Jeep Wrangler gate problem and I'm liking this mod. The problem I run into though is the initial hook-up. Assuming the hitch lock is like my utility trailer.. It doesn't clear the spare tire when in the open position. So I have to partially open the gate and hand bomb the trailer tongue on and then lock. no problem with a small utility trailer but this one is 1940lbs. Now I have looked at hitch extensions but they say that cuts the tongue wait load. Any ideas to this?... Btw I ordered my solar system from your other video .. Big help.. Cheers!
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife 4 ай бұрын
In general, the wrangler is pushed to its limits with the Bushwhacker plus. The 10 foot bushwhackers are no problem. JKU can pull the plus, but the tongue weight is a little bit too much if you do any sort of extension. With that being said, Jack E Up mod (I have a video on this) allows me to open the Jeep door a lot more than with a static jack, it doesn't open all the way. Very familiar with your issue, I've had to hand wrestle underneath the spare tire and number of times ...lol All and all, unless you do some mods to the Jeep, you might wanna avoid a hitch. The swing gate is always going to be a PITA, you'll have to keep playing with it to see you're the best system. Thanks for watching!

I love it. Lost a little of the stability I had to pull the camper around on the caster wheel, although I still do it regularly. Opening the truck/jeep tailgate while the camper is attached is a huge value to me. I also used to bottom out on the jack and obviously that doesn’t happen any more. Money well spent!
@emsfire261
@emsfire261 Жыл бұрын
Any follow-up on this solution? How does this impact stability of the front of the trailer when camping? Also, with the tongue jack removed, are you able to clear the LP tank in the Bushwhacker’s factory location enough to open the swing gate on your Jeep JK? Any updated input would be much appreciated!
@DIYOutdoorLife
@DIYOutdoorLife Жыл бұрын
It's been great, I've done a few updates in our travel videos. Stability is fine, no noticeable difference. It can still be used with the double caster wheel to move the trailer by hand, although it has made that more difficult. Truck tailgate can lower completely, Jeep has a lot more range of motion, but not complete. All and all, great buy for us. Thanks for watching!

Also Brian.. With a trailer weight of 1500pds the bushwalker 10hd... What would be the rule of thumb on a Jack? Would 2000 pounds support for a a trailer weighing at 1500 pounds or should you go a 1000 pounds over for excess weight of cargo ie...kayaks,camping gear ,generators,etc... It is the Curt jack you recommend... 2000lbs or 3000lbs better for bushwacker tear drop???
