I'll have to dig out a few pictures of my late father in laws collection of sharks teeth. He made necklaces of them and make like picture frames and mounted them on it. Some were huge. You'll see if I can find the pictures. He collected all of his at Myrtle Beach area.

lol . You know, I didn't realize my hubby was a tool-a-holic until I read the comments of other men sayin, "I'm going to have my wife watch this so she sees I'm not bringing too many tools." It was then I realized he had a problem with tools. :-) Seriously though, thank you! That's a compliment coming from another man. -Mercedes

I too am a tool acholic. There I said it, I took the first step!!! Been in construction most of my life, also was a tool distributor for Cornwell tools for about 6 years. So, I have a boat load of tools. After changing a flat (with conventional tools) on the rear of me dully with the 5th wheel connected, on the shoulder of I-10 in Texas. Speed limit 80 MPH, with trucks zooming by 3 ft away from me and my truck. I invested in a Viair on board air compressor (controlled by my truck up fitter switches) and connected to a 7 gal. air tank. I now use a 12-ton air jack and an Ingersoll Rand ½ drive impact wrench. Now if I have to change a flat tire, it will be safe, quick and easy. It has enough air that I can run my pneumatic tools to work on my truck and RV. I even serviced the transmission and rear differential using the air supply from my truck. Removing old gasket with a pneumatic die grinder is a must! I ran air lines to both sides of the truck with quick connect couplings. I use the air all the time, I also added an air horn.
@RVOddCouple
@RVOddCouple 5 жыл бұрын
Congratulations, they say the first step is the highest! :-). You and John could talk all about your air tools. He misses is pneumatic tools. And he tells me that since he can't take those he needs another drill to repair paneling "the right way." I'm sure you will agree with him because men have to stick together. But he mentioned the onboard Viair to me too. Men and their tools! That said, I have a tremendous amount of respect for anyone that can create or fix things with tools. It's not given enough recognition.

6:28 Surge protectors: One recommendation: Before backing/leveling into your camping spot, have someone walk over and plug the surge protector into the power first. This will confirm a good outlet and will save the headache of having to have to move again.

Of all the RVing/ van life channels I follow, you're the only one who mentions having firearms with you (or the only one brave enough to say anything). I applaud that! For Class "B" or smaller motorhome's that are used as the daily driver: A sign left at the empty campsite that says "We are coming Back, thank you." Not only is it good communication, but it also avoids awkward situations for a spot you already paid for.
@RVOddCouple
@RVOddCouple 5 жыл бұрын
This is excellent advice. Some people leave hoses but a sign is a far better idea. Sometimes it looks like someone just left the hose by accident. It's hard to tell. With a sign, there is no mistake that the campsite is occupied.

"What did we miss?" - A shovel ( I use the folding camp style to save space) and a screw on water pressure regulator for campground hookups. Hi Andy & Kim! A Shovel! yes!!! I think we have the water pressure regulator but he puts his by the water filter. I'm probably not saying it right. Funny, we have a massive list. Great info. We have full time RV for 18 years and we wish we had all the great toys you have. We carry about half of what you have as we are in a 31 Ft. Motorhome Class C. One tool I did not notice was a Volt Reader Meter. We keep ours in the front seat to check that camp sites have the proper power available.. It's small so easy to keep handy and has saved us a few times from sites that were not working. Cheryl and Mark

@@RVOddCouple We got an automotive assortment pack that had most of them, then added in the odd ones. We got them from Fry's Electronics, my favorite store ever! Unfortunately they are only in certain parts of the country, but I stock up when we are near one. I could order online, but then I'd miss out exploring the store. In California where they started, the original stores are themed, like one is an Egyptian Pyramid, and one has a huge Tesla Coil in the middle of the store that shoots out electrical bolts at the top of the hour.... They all have cafeteria's, so you can spend a long time shopping :)

We are going out again in a mth or so. Should be out till Christmas. We mostly boondock and have a different life style. But I agree about tools. One I'm happy I got was a good 20v Dewalt impact gun. It came in handy as I had two flats one on the camper and one on the truck. All so got a fan to use the battery for helping to keep my wife cool at night. Many years ago, I had a screen name of "Tool Gal." I grew up grease-monkeying to my dad. I will definitely struggle when it comes time to decide what tools can't come along. The blow will be softened some by knowing that most of the ones I can't take will be going to my grandsons, who will make excellent use of them. I have many duplicates, and a lot of culling to do. But of all the tools I have, both mechanical and woodworking, the one tool I do not own, that I must buy for the road, is a torque wrench! Loved your 'therapy' session--too funny! Maybe if we ever cross paths, we can indulge in an exchange of improv comedy! ;-)

Good video! I've been making a list of RV Essentials (my opinion) and thought your video was excellent. Above all, Surge Protector with EMS (usually $300-$400) and a water pressure regulator should be some of the first things you buy. I'm glad you covered those first! I can't stress enough how important those 2 pieces are. I always wonder why all RV's don't automatically come with EMS/Surge protection and a water pressure regulator out of the build plants. Also, I do RV detailing and was impressed to see you had ONR. That's the best stuff and I use it on my own personal vehicles. After your wash and rinse try spraying on a product called "Beadmaker" and then try it with Microfiber drying cloths that are meant to be used specifically for drying. You're RV will shine and feel SO smooth not to mention bead off water quickly. I get my stuff from Matt at Obsessed Garage here in Florida.

John, I'm happy to see you're using a brass elbow on your water filter connection to reduce the amount of stress the line can put on that city water connector. If you don't mind my making an observation, it's good that you have your water filter on the trailer end of the hose. On our maiden outing with our first trailer, I attached my filter to the hose bib and someone suggested to me that the filter should be the last thing your water travels through before entering the trailer. Point well taken, but I noticed in this video that your pressure regulator is also on the trailer end of the hose. It was pointed out to me that surges in the park pressure will blow a hose, especially one that's laying in the sun and having the pressure regulator on the end of the hose that's connected to the bib offers protection for your hose, too. I hope someone reads this and benefits from it. Jeffrey & Eun Ae

Have you considered putting a compressor/tank, aka OBA (on-board air) on your truck? I have a dual compressor on my Jeep so I can air down the tires when we go off-road, but it will be used for air tools and maintaining RV tire pressures when we hit the road in our motorhome. And as a bonus, you can then add a train horn to your truck. I have one on my Jeep and it’s awesome!! 😊

I totally understand the attachment to tools. Being a tradesman my entire working career also. My wife and I just purchased our first rv last year and are weekenders at the moment. I could totally see myself having all those tools/equipment as well. I try to bring as much as i can as it is just for weekend trips. Hey you never know right? Great video and i am so glad i started following you all. Safe travels......Briguy

Love the therapy session... hilarious. Your RV tools looks like our garage. Being that we're not full-time RVers and have a Class C, we don't have space or load capacity for a lot of tools. We have the necessary water regulator, surge protector and battery jumper/air compressor combo. But for repairs, we just have a small hand tool set that our dealer threw in. It's one of those Harbor Freight type 100 piece sets. And I use it a lot.

John I'm right with you on this one. I don't know what I'm going to do when I have to part with all my tools. I have been a mechanic for over 50 years and have every tool under the sun in my boat shop. In my 25 ft. travel trailer I carry a good selection of repair tools maybe not a saws-all haven't needed one yet for short trips but like you maybe to many. One of the first trips out one of the skylights got damaged and it was raining and my trailer doesn't have a ladder on the back the RV store wanted a $375.00 for a collapsible ladder so I went to Ace hardware an bought a 12 ft extension ladder that now resides in my front bay. All my mechanics tools, tow strap, axe shovel live in the truck tool box plus the Viair compressor so they are with me when the trailer is not. I carry just about every thing you do only in a more compact way. Carrying all this stuff allows me to take care of my needs and help other people along the way. Enjoyed your video take care.

Steve thank you so much for your comment. Comments like these are helping me to understand John's struggle to reduce his tools. He read your comment and he completely understood it. It's the funniest thing because he can remember when he bought which tool and what job it was for. He can't remember what we ate for breakfast, but the attachment to tools is a real struggle. And I absolutely love how you talk about helping others out along the way. That's the way to do it!

THANK YOU, I thought I had a tool problem, kids play compared to you ! Showing my wife this Vid... LOL.... Last video I mentioned my method, "if i don't use it in a year, out it goes". I'm not a full timer so most of the redundancy & hardware you have I leave at home. One ladder, one electrical cord, one.... If i need something , thats what WallMart or Ace are for on the road. I use a self car wash on the road as well, except I carry an extendable handle with a wash brush on the end for debugging the front of truck & trailer.. Due to weight & storage limitations (lack of use as well) I carry about half what you're showing. I would add though, Dicor lap & tape sealant & volt/amp meter.
