Very good video! My wife enjoyed seeing all of your organization/storage solutions! One Thing though..... It appears in the bathroom that you have a continuous open black tank drain when hooked up to public sewage. That is not good! Keep your black tank valve closed. Keep a solution of water/chemical waste breakdown/deodorizer at all times in the back tank. That will breakdown the #2 waste and degradable RV toilet paper. Empty the black tank when it is near full. Rinse black tank with your hose thru the black tank flush inlet on outside of the airstream. This will keep your black tank much cleaner than keeping the black tank valve continuously open. Leaving that valve always open can also lead to unwanted problems with the black tank, and allow unwanted gases from the public sewage system to backup into your airstream.
@Roamaroo2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the recommendation.. Yes, we do exactly what you recommend.. Keep the black tank closed until it's full or time to go. 😀
@loriw26614 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure if you mentioned this or not but as someone who has been camping for 30+ years, I just want to add that you should never keep your grey and black tanks open when you’re connected to sewer. Always wait until they’re full (and if they’re not, add water first) before you open the valves and empty them. I also recommend using a 90 at your water connection on the outside of the trailer. It keeps it from having that downward pressure on the connector.
@Roamaroo4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip.. 😀 we always appreciate some knowledge from a expert like yourself. I knew we need water in the tanks before emptying them. what do you think about this situation - Camping for ~4 days, leave the gray tank open until the last day - close it, allow the gray tank to fill up the last day, then just before leaving empty the black and gray tank. This allows us to have gray water to flush out any "crud" from the black tank.

I have the same model Bambi but from 2012 and it's exactly the same. Like your upgrades and I might do those one day ( I just camp and not a full timer). I did remove the cumbersome awkward table as it is really too big for the space and found a nice round one which has a height adjustable hydraulic so it serves as a coffee table (low) or a regular dining table or even up high as additional counter space. My airstream came with a convection microwave oven that also has a grill / broiler (Cuisinart) which is awesome and I use it to cook all the time when camping. I do have a generator for extra power when boon docking and a decent size farm water tank that sits in the bed of my truck with additional water that a tiny transfer pump tops up the Bambi's own fresh water tank when it gets low. You guys have certainly made good use of all the available space.

21:00 - With solar for boondocking becoming more common on RVs/campers, I'm surprised that chest refrigerators/freezers haven't gained any traction, due to how stupidly energy efficient they are. You know, the ones that open from the top. In my opinion, they would be perfect for campers, since they would function as additional counter space, and you could still have storage above them as long as the top opens all the way.

Good video! We also have a 22FB sport. Every time I see the decorative cushions on the rear side of the bed/airstream under window we get hopeful someone has figured out how to reconfigure the bed for easier ingress/egress. Somewhere I saw where someone had done some major surgery on this unit to make 2 twins. Love your lithium setup btw! One thing that I am thinking about is reconfiguring the kitchen seating area. It is not that comfortable to sit on the window side with the narrow seating cushions, and there is just two of us. Also with that change perhaps a table reconfigure might be in order… anyway, really like the Airstream brand, and your/our unit! Thank you for posting, super informative…

We are an athletic family of 4 with two kids on the cusp of being teenagers... we like the exterior size of the 20FB and 22FB for towing into smaller campsites, but are not sure the bed solutions will really work for us. It was good to see you laying in the front bed for size perspective, but would also be good to hear more commentary and/or demo of how to get out at night! Also, we would sleep in the reverse order since my wife gets up far more often than I do - so is there room for a slim 6' person to fit into the corner with the rounded edges?

Love your videos! Just curious why you guys don't use RV toilet paper such as Scott brand? We have been RVing for years and if you use the right stuff, it dissolves and flushes fine. Also never owned an Airstream so maybe it has something to do with Airstream plumbing?
@Roamaroo4 жыл бұрын
We were given the recommendation when we first started. It wasn't that big of an inconvenience so we thought it was an easy thing to follow. One of the reasons was because our trailer has a black tank flushing nozzle inside the tank (i think a lot of trailers have this). Supposedly, the holes of the nozzle can be clogged by toilet paper.

One word of caution.. if you have the electric fridge (our 22 has an electric only fridge) it will consume most of that 200 watts of solar. We have to “plug” our Bambi into our generator when every 3rd day when boondocking.. however, we also use a cappuccino machine and blender every day. 😀

I wasn’t going to say anything, but after reading comments, you could use some educated help. Throwing used towelette paper in a waste basket is a health hazard. Please stop doing that. The tablets that you put down into your black tank are designed to dissolve toilet paper. Never leave a black tank valve open for extended lengths of time. How would the tank tablets work? RV plumbing is different from home plumbing. Don’t open your window or turn on your fan before using your toilet. That would create a draft that would pull smells out of the black tank and into your trailer. Open the window and turn on the fan afterwards. That will take care of most of the tank smells you are experiencing. That along with black tank tablets should take care of it completely. Dr. Dana.

Thanks for the tips.. 😀. I think there’s a little confusion with our practices. We don’t leave the black tank open. Sometimes I leave the gray tank open. 🤔How is it a problem running the fan when in the bathroom? Our toilet holds water in the bowl and is sealed, so no black tank fumes are pulled into the trailer. Is that still an issue? Lastly, how is disposing of toilet paper waste a health hazard 🤔. You seem like quite the expert. I like to learn from people like you 😀

Excellent video , beautiful rig- Just subscribed :) Question - is there a cut out gap above your toilet door for the air to vent ? So basically when you are on the toilet, your partner can hear everything?! 😳 I think I would prefer a vent in the bathroom and a toilet door that closes completely for some privacy like in most other Airstream models! :) or maybe when living in such close quarters there is no privacy anymore 😂!

The problem with Airstream is no washer/dryer option. Okay for short weekend trip, but not okay for full time.
@Roamaroo3 жыл бұрын
We have yet to see a RV with a washer and dryer in person. I really want to see one. That seems like the life to have a washer and dryer in your RV.
@billyclabough98353 жыл бұрын
@@Roamaroo There is a company, Ultimate Airstreams, that will put a washer/dryer in an Airstream. I don't know what it costs or which Airstream models they can put it in. Would be nice for Airstream to offer the option.

Very nice video and good tips. I'm on the fence between Bambi, Caravel or 23' Flying Cloud. I actually like the lighter interior of the Bambi. They want sssssooo much more for each step up. Not sure it's worth it. TFS
@Roamaroo3 жыл бұрын
If we did it again we would have gone with the 25 or 27 ft flying cloud. I don't think there's a major difference between the 22' bambi and the 23' FC... but if you go to the 25 or 27 there's a BIG difference. Either way you won't go wrong.
@carilynjurgeson61783 жыл бұрын
@@Roamaroo The 23' FC gets you dual axle, walk/squeeze around bed and a real oven. The price jumps significantly though...I didn't really want to go into that price range, Seems like they bait you to keep looking up into higher range to get some of the basic amenities that should be in all of them. The 23' Globetrotter gets you a double door fridge, Obviously they could put it in the FC because it is the same floor plan. They know they kinda gotcha. Thanks for the reply.

Airsteams, terrible insulation. Bad idea lining the inside with aluminum. And it leaks during down pours. They really need to update their technology and design. What is nice is that the bathroom has a window. Stink and steam can vent out.
