Good video, I'm rebuilding the back wall on my 2013 Open Range MesaRidge 281FLR. Also replacing both slide floors. 3 improperly sealed windows and one storage door. Front cap was replaced previously under an insurance claim, insurance said no to the aft wall and stated coverage of the front wall was a mistake. Framed windows will be on the list for the next trailer along with Azdel walls.

Great insight Derek! Be careful you buy a trailer with a superior seal. You are only as good as your seal. Also, a structurally sound trailer is important as well when looking at Azdel. One of the major downfalls of Azdel is that it has extremely poor screw retention. If the structure isn’t the there to support the screws, your seals will give way. Remember also that water intrusion will affect the wood in the floors and roof where Azdel isn’t typically located. Again I go back to making sure you have a superior seal and structure, which is what you get with a Grand Design RV.

Max Pain, thanks for your comment and challenge accepted...lol! We will most definitely try and put something together when we have the opportunity to shoot a GD wall that hasn’t been installed yet. Thanks for watching, stay tuned, and Happy Camping! 😀

Also don’t forget Grand Design RV welcomes guests to take a factory tour. I highly recommend all customers and anybody in the RV industry to take a trip out to the factory. They show you everything, I have always “drank the kool aid” with GDRV, but after taking the factory tour I now “Guzzle the kool aid” when it comes to GDRV. Great video. 👍

@@giese74 Yeah, you might want to limit that recommendation to non-engineers, or at least to those with no experience in mechanical, in thermal assemblies as well as materials and build. "Grand Design" is an oxymoron. The company, like the rest of the industry, makes ridiculous claims that are patently false about its R values, especially, and one of the most prominent construction materials on the factory floor is OSB. They can rename it whatever they want, even "marine-grade," but engineered strand board has certain characteristics that no amount of re-labeling will ever overcome. The RV industry needs a huge wake-up call and at least one court has made that painfully clear this year, threatening to turn the industry on its head. In Canada, if you want a quality lamination design, stick with a Canadian product like Triple E's that they used in their best motorhomes (Regency GT, etc.). Grand Design doesn't hold a candle to that thermally-broken wall. Instead, GD allows aluminum to be in direct contact with both the interior and exterior wall, with one of the highest thermal conductivity numbers for any structural material, short-circuiting much of the value of the foam used between the frame members. There's not a building code or inspector in North America who would allow that design to be used in a permanent structure. Very poor engineering--as RV's represent in general--and huge wasters of energy for those who want to use them extensively, even full-time.
