We had a Suburban tankless in our RV when we got it and you are right, any interruption in the water flow made it shut off and have to start the refire process over again. In our case it took between. 30-90 seconds to get back to hot depending on the temperature of the water coming out of the bib, that does make a difference. For instance we had 50deg water in North Carolina and it took forever to get it hot where in Florida the water was closer to 75 out of the bib. Little changes in flow like say someone turning on the kitchen faucet was enough to shut it down. The really bad part, sometimes it would not re-fire with an E1 error code which meant you needed to turn off all water, wait a min and start over. We saw this a lot when we were in a park with only 30psi at the bib. Things like navy showers were out of the question with this setup. We also measured how much water we wasted on a daily basis waiting for hot water and it was crazy. Just our regular hot water usage we threw away over 25 gallons a day waiting for hot water which would make boondocking almost impossible for more than a couple days. We ended up upgrading to a Truma comfort plus. Its a hybrid water heater. It has a little 1 quart tank that it recirculates and keeps hot so when you open the tap it takes like 10 seconds to get hot water and it gives the system enough time to fire and start producing hot water before the little tank runs out. Its also not sensitive to changes in flow since it stays on for a period after you turn the water off with the recirculate running. Navy showers are no problem and we have again tested our water waste waiting for hot water and its gone down to under half a gallon a day waste. The only "drawback" is its 100% propane so it does fire and run for about 30 seconds every hour or so to keep that water hot so it does use more propane but i have not noticed any dramatic increase in usage, its a small amount. Same with battery to run that recirc pump, it needs power but its a small amount. Its a brilliant system and it has solved all of the complaints we had with the suburban. So far its been worth every penny we paid for it.
