Hensley and JJ are getting amazing education in so many areas of life. Great parenting on your part, I see two amazing adults in the future. You are giving them experiences that will teach them more than simple arithmetic, reading, and writing. You are teaching them to conquer fears, make new friends and always seek new adventure. The two of you should be proud of the parenting relationship you have with them.

For JJ. I was born in Venezuela and my grandparents would take me on fishing trips with them. We would set up camp on the banks of the Orinoco River. At night we would build large fires along the shore of our camp to keep the crocodiles at bay, I was about your age and could see their glowing eyes in the water outside the perimeter of the firelight. As the fires would die down they would move in closer. I still have dreams of those eyes. I hear ya bud... OLT

The man at the register was so kind and helpful in sharing all the different tips on how to cut and eat the many different kinds of fruit we purchased - including that Canistel you were eyeing! 😜 Turns out that was actually Robert! I would’ve asked a lot more questions had I known that he was THE Robert! My daughter also opted for the dragon fruit smoothie. She loved it! 💖

The Everglades used to extend from the southern tip of Lake Okeechobee. Developers moved in and cleared a ton for farming before they got ahold of it. It’s a fraction of what it was. Great book the kids may love, historical fiction and I taught for years,A Land Rememebered by Patrick Smith. For the books, get the 2 separate student versions, and maybe keep the kids in book 1 for now. That one is a grade 4-6 level. You can also visit Lake Kissimmee State Park and go to Cow Camp with reinactments of the characters. I may have some teaching materials, so you can always reach out!

Those are the bottom end of my stomping grounds. I was raised in the headwaters of the Everglades. Hunting, fishing, working, playing etc. I use to guide hog, deer, Turkey and gator hunts. If we ever encounter a python, we just make it a non issue. If you want a cool place to experience, book a site in Kissimmee Prairie State park and preserve. It’s a very interesting “ dark “ campground. It’s considered the darkest spot in Florida used by stargazers. Every weekend they offer swamp buggy rides and a night walk. Aside from the ranch I work on…. It’s my favorite place. Undisturbed land. Lots of deer, Turkey and gators. Deer and Turkey walk through the camping area. I know these videos are way behind where you actually are. But I highly recommend Kissimmee Prairie State Park and preserve

Many years ago living and working law enforcement in Florida, I can remember the cases where people were attacked by gators. It does happen, you just need to know the park regs/precautions, and follow through with what the rangers tell you. Just as you would in Yellowstone, or any park. Enjoy!

We loved riding our ebikes on Shark Valley. However, a very large alligator did come out unexpectedly and chased alongside my husband within a foot of his leg. It came out of the grasses right next to him. My husband didn't know it when it was happening. I just sped up so he would follow. If I had said anything, he would have stopped and would have stepped on it. It was longer than his bike and ran at his same speed, which was around 7mph. The only photo of a gator that I didn't get. 😂

There are 3 crocs at Shark Valley. The first one you saw is the middle sized one of unknown sex and showed up about 2 years ago. The big one out by the tower has been in this part of the park for about 7 years and is a female. The NPS biologists captured her and took data. This year a smaller one also showed up, again, sex unknown. These are all American Salt Water Crocodiles happily living in fresh water.
