The best and simplest explanation on KZbin. Very good. My buddy has a 2001 Honda 750 shadow that has this problem. He took it to a shop they said it was fine and it died the next day with a dead battery. Bought new battery, died the next day. Put in a new stator, died the next day. You narrowed it down and I figured this was it but now I'm certain. Thanks for an excellent video

HI Sir, wow very nice video about this issue !!!! Very well explained - And yes, I was facing this problem now several times and now with my Hyosung 650, year 2007. It now happened 3 times that out of the blue the bike is not starting anymore. So I checked the battery with the multimeter and saw its not really charging the battery and stood at 13.5ish volts when I raised the rpm. Now, I disconnected the regulator and checked it with the Multimeter in the way some guys are showing how to do it. I found nothing weird on it, except different numbers (using the diode arrow sign on the meter). So, I am wondering if the regulator really is broken ? - Greetings from Ireland

+Vikas Rachamalla (iammotorbiker) Hi dude if the regulator fails can you still start your bike with a new battery?
@alperentopay11649 жыл бұрын
Best explanation that I have found in days. Really good job! My 2004 Ducati Monster is not charging properly when it is running. When I crank the bike up the voltage drops from 12.6 to 12.3 and than goes up to 12.8 again. I assume 12.8 Volts is not enough to charge it. I will start by replacing the regulator since it is the cheapest part. If that doesn't work I'll move on to the stator.

hi i got a 2009 Kawasaki zx6r when i ran a test on my yuasa battery i got about 12 .2 volts when i rev the bike to about 5,000 rpms the voltage drops to about 9 volts would that be the stator not generating enough power.
@fkmehardy61867 жыл бұрын
probably not, reg/rec probably failing, look at the three yellow wires going into the plug from the reg/rec, are they going brown, is one going brown/scorched, thats the regulator failing

Its his reg/rec, I ride the zx9r its the same system, the CDI is ignition and nothing to do with charging the battery as you can see from his description of the problem, the bike is running its just using the battery for everything rather than the alternator/stator-reg/rec/to battery.

Awesome Video. I'm having issues with a 1982 Kawasaki KZ440 and it's charging system. I've replaced the Regulator, Stator and battery and after running it for 2 hours I can't get it to start. I've taken the battery back to the store and had it checked after charging it and it tested as good. The Regulator has the correct Ohms. The Stator also tests good on Ohms and is not shorting out. I have not been able to check the voltage output of the stator. I have now moved on to the Starter and the solenoid. Tomorrow I will remove the starter and test it. The Solenoid seem to test good today. I have been able to bump start it but seems like the battery does not get a charge and now seems as if the battery does not have enough amps to turn the motor over. Again tomorrow I will pull the starter and test it to see if it runs out of the bike. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

When the motorcycle is running, the bike got enough power to stay running, but if I shut it off, and then try to start it again, the battery is too low to crank the engine. The battery is two weeks old, so it should be good. I short circuit the old battery and wonder if that might have fried the regulator/rectifier... What do you think?

Great information. Usually moving pats get detoirated faster. I.e stator due to hot oil circulation & stator coil burns due to poor quality of insulation i.e varnish used in coil wire. Since RR unit doesn't have moving parts their reliability is higher

Thanks a lot for the comprehensive video, it helped a lot. Now, as you mentioned during the video about questions, I do have a question if you don't mind. I own a Hyosung Aquila GV250 EFI and my stator was fried a couple of weeks back so my mechanic replaced it with a new one, doing a shitty job, as he removed the supplied plugs and welded the three yellow wires from the stator to the yellow ones of the reg/rec , is it important to know the order of the three (1,2,3) or it does not matter? Anyway, I'm getting 12.8 A on the battery when the engine is off and when running approx. 13.6 - 13.8 A. Should I worry and get a new reg/rec? Thanks in advance

Thanks for the video! I have a 2014 Duke 200 and have been seeing low battery for a few days now.. Since the battery is changed just an year ago, I went to the nearest mechanic and checked the battery voltage. It goes to slightly above 12V from 11.9ish when the bike is cranked up but doesn't increase when the headlight is ON. Do you think this is something to do with the charging circuit or the battery itself coz it has a lower voltage to start with ?

If you are still checking these comments, I would appreciate a reply. 😊 I received a 2006 Yamaha Morphous 250cc Scooter as a gift, but I have been having trouble with the battery. The battery was fairly old and wasn't holding a charge, so I got a new one and replaced it. However, the battery is still running low after riding maybe 10 or 15 miles, even after a full charge. If I turn off the engine after 10 or 15 miles, it won't crank again without a jump. If I keep it running however, it has trouble idling below 1200 RPM. I have to hold the throttle open while sitting at stop lights to keep the engine above 1200 RPM to keep it from stalling. I only have this problem with it idling if it's been running for a few miles and the battery is running low. Otherwise it rides and idles just fine. I am hoping it's just the Rectifier/Regulator and not the Stator itself. Is there any way I can confirm which is the issue? I prefer not to take it into a shop, because they all have several week's wait time because this time of year is very busy. Many thanks in advance. 😊

Hi vikas Thanks for the video it is brilliant. I have tried the instructions that you gave but something strange is going on I wondered if you wouldn't mind having a look. My battery measures at 12.63 volts when the bike is turned off. When I turn the ignition on nothing happens the display is completely dead. When I attach jump leads from a car battery the bike starts not very easily and can run on its own for about 1-2 minutes before cutting out. When I rev the bike the volts drop right down which according to you is a charging problem, but if it was only a charging problem then why does the display not come on at all when I turn on the ignition but it does come on on when I use jump leads? Is it the battery or is it the regulator? I was thinking it may be the starter motor but then why doesn't the dash come on when the ignition is turned on but it does when jump leads are used? Thankyou for your help

Hi Vikas, thank you for sharing your valued knowledge. My story is a long stressful one because I have a Chinese trike, No longer manufactured :O( and parts or advice is also none exsistant. Just google it. Pioneer, 125 FX tricycle. on various parts, some I've had to make myself . I've had many problems throughout this refurb'. There's no riders manual, wiring diagram or mechanical help. If I search for parts I'm always stopped in my tracks because no supplier can help because of there not being any numbers or names on the parts on this trike. But now my NEW battery isn't charging and I've been on many KZbin sites regarding testing the Rectifier etc and the wire colours are all different to mine. 5 pin = red, black, pink, yellow and green. whereas all helper are talking about three yellow coming from the stator. Is it possible to damage a rectifier manually. I ask this because I changed my `damaged`? one with an identical one off a yamaha majesty 250 and it didn't work. I didn't know at this time if the replacement one was good, sorry my bad. I'm about to pluck up the courage to strip off all the bike fairings to find the stator wires emerging from it. Even to test that is going to be a challenge because of the wire colours ? I didn't want to spend yet more cash on a new recitfier if this isn't the problem. Kind regards, John

@rvkvikas10 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much Krishna. Yes, a 12V battery should last at least 3 years. No matter how ordinary brand it is. The reason I could think of is, in your case, the Regulator/ Rectifier could have been over charging the battery by a few volts and in long run, this kills the battery. There is a way to check it, like I said in the video. Start the bike and use a mulitimeter to see the voltage reading at the battery leads, it should not cross 14.8V even at 4k RPM. Please check that and let me know. Also, under charging the battery can also reduce battery life, however, if you run the bike at least one time in 15 days for 50 kms, the charge would be enough... Have a nice day. Please do subscribe to the channel, so that you can stay updated with new videos.

Rectifiers need airflow, so it is critical that they are placed somewhere on the motorbike where they get some air. If they are hidden in side cowling or under the seat, it is bad for them. Yes, generally the rectifiers that we get in India are not of a great quality or technology, however, most of the times, they work for many years without an issue.

Hi vikas i also emailed you on the add below. thanks for all the help on the videos. so here goes. i have a 2008 yamaha xt660r. i got it second hand a couple of months ago and i noticed that it has a few ghost issues. Ghost as in, in consistent. not every time but randomly playing up. at first it would cut off randomly while riding at about 30-40kms. i would pull it at the side and start it and would instantly start. it was random. not every time but about2-3 times a week. After reading about the tps issues on the internet i did a diag check and the tps was ok. lately now a new thing has started. while starting the bike on some days when i turn the key you know the funny sound(like a robot ) that the bike makes kind of like a electric motor, well that does not happen and the immobilizer starts blinking with the overheat light on too. the engine is cold and therefore the overheat light makes no sense. also in the odometer it displays a number 51. for this model there is no error 51 in the fault codes. i have checked the cooling system and it works fine. the censor, relays and fuses are ok. i read in another forum that it may be an immobilizer issue. therefore wanted to know how could i check if it was so. the other forum said that if there is an issue with the immobilizer it wont send a signal to the fuel pump. and also forgot to mention that when i try to start the bike with the overheat and immobilizer lights on the motor turns but does not start. then i just leave the bike for sometime and try again and the bike starts normally.
@rvkvikas9 жыл бұрын
iyron dsilva Hello Iyron, Sorry about the late reply. I was held up during the weekend. The funny sound (like a robot ), it is the sound of the fuel pump initializing, it is important that we hear that sound every time we turn the key. I did some reading about the ERROR code 51, looks like this code is displayed when there is an issue with the Radiator Fan. Either it is not working and some issue with the relay of the fan. You need to check if the fan is functioning well, if the fan is not turning on after the motorbike reaches higher temperatures, it could be an electric issue with the fan or an issue with the thermostat. Now, about the Fuel pump not starting when you turn the key: The immobilizer takes its input from the key, so, you would need to check if there is any dirt in the lock and spray some WD 40 and try again, if it does not work, the KEY could be at fault too, this happened to one of my Cars. Please try and let me know. I will look forward to your reply. You can connect to me on Facebook also. My details are below: facebook.com/vikas.rachamalla facebook.com/Iammotorbiker

I am considering trying to incorporate a motorcycle charging system into a classic car (1927 Buick) to run some 12V accessories that would draw too much current to just use a 6V to 12V up-converter! So I’m considering trying to add a stator and rectifier inside of the 93 year old factory 6V generator! Again, great explication....

Excelent video dude!, I just found it but I wanted to check if I'd done the correct thing. I had values for 16 v when my bike had started, so I replaced the regulator, but I was guessing if that was the problem. With this video I'm sure. Thks!

great video.. yamaha wr450f 2006 last ride I recognise that my hedlight bulb and after a minute a dash light bulb blown out.. I have repleace the bulbs and also hecked regulator ..on regulator I'v noticed that the red wire (+) port was covered by some blue dust or something..I'v clean all ports and conectors I'v also checked regulator rect. using multimeter on diode position -all was fine regulator seems to be fine..so I start the bike and checked voltage on battery it was about 13 on iddle, but on rev it rise up to 16 but no more.. Hey Vikas just watched it, nicely explained :) My Question :- I have Pulsar 200dtsi Oil Cooled 2009 Model with Amaron BTX5L 5 Ah Dry Battery ( July 2018 ) I often face battery drain problem due to Lockdown. I end up push start, wheel jump at 5th gear later to Garage to charge the Battery. So how many Kilometer or How much time should i ride my bike to maintain the Battery Power. Do I have to ride it Daily, if not than Alternate days or weekly

hello, thanks for the information My problem: Amaron Battery, Vehicle Bought 19-08-2020, TVS RTR APACHE 200 BS VI. Battery couldnt start the vehicle, even with the jerk with gear method. Sat idle for 20 days, today service center guy comes, jump started the vehicle, says battery okay but vehicle cant charge the battery, claims some magnetic coil has issues, has to get that part from another state, will take 10-12 days. Is it really the issue as per you ?

Great video, I have been researching my battery issue for a week now. After seeing your video, I am confident that I will locate the problem. I am unable to to start my bike. I don't even hear the bike attempting to crank up. I checked the voltage on my Harley 2009 V Rod which read around 5.4. I turned on the lights and the bike immediately dropped down to 2.3. The mechanic said my battery is to low and needs to be charged on a charger. Which leaves me to believe that I may need a new battery. Also, my battery drain due to being exposed to extremely cold weather. Can you please share your thoughts? Thank you in advance. Oh, I just subscribed to your videos.

hey man, good day, so i saw your video, very informative, but i'm kinda having some problems with my bike. so i got this china made 100cc bike, have it for 2years now. my bike works and run fine, but when i turn on the lights, such as park light, head light high or low, also the signal lights when i need to. it slowly loosing it's power, i mean the electricity power, but every time i puts the rev up, electric power seems to go high to normal. so was it the stator, rectifier or the battery?

Thank you for this awesome video. I do have a motorcycle issue. It won't start. The model is Honda Wave 100 2007. When I electric start, it whines but never start. i kickstart and it doesn't even whine. I replaced the main fuse and spark plug, still the same problem. I check left right signal lights, and they all light turn on.What could the problem be?

Hi I'm a new subscriber. my bike won't crank sometimes and I have to charge the battery with an external charger I replaced the battery and it's still the same I have a honda cbr rr 600 2003. I've heard the rectifier is a known issue on these bikes and was wondering your opinion. I had no issues until I installed HIDS they have their own harness and run strait off the battery. I feel that the HIDs exposed a weakness in my rectifier and it has work out and needs replacing. What do you think?

Is it safe to run the motorcycle with stator directly (busted regulator)connected to the battery if the voltage output is at 14.8v. max?

Very informative video sir. I just got a charging system failure with my bike as what the ecu and the dealership says. I need help, My bike is a Yamaha R15 V3, the dealership told me that I need to replace my Regulator Rectifier. The problem is that there is no available Regulator Rectifier for my Bike right now in the dealership and their main branch and I need to wait for about 3 - 4 weeks waiting while it is being ordered overseas. And therefore I cant use my bike for the whole duration? Please help Sir..

2005 Triumph Daytona 650, stator has burned out 3 times in a row with a life span of 2 weeks each. changed both the stator AND the rectifier on the final change and AGAIN ANOTHER 3rd BURNED UP STATOR. Ladies and gentlemen i'm talking crispy black all over 100%. I'm stumped, could it be an open wire? Shorted wire? Is it easier on the electrical system to use more electronics (headlights and stuff) or less electricity? I have HID headlights, but they use less power than the halogens. Any help?

I have a 2013 Aprilia rsv4 bought brand new last year off the show room floor. About a week ago I began having start up problems then it would start just click at the relay I bought a new battery and rectifier. When I tested the charge with the bike running the volt meter numbers jumped around. Could it be a loose ground wire?

I have a Yamaha grizzly 660 that is over charging, eating the rectifier and then getting the battery over time. It has had several rectifiers and has now had a new stator. It is still over charging and it is being checked for a short somewhere in the wiring but not finding anything. Any thoughts?

I am amazed, thank you. In Liverpool, nobody knows about motorcycles! I have always dreamt of owning one. I now have a Kymco ck1 125cc motorbike none starter. I have to ask you, please can you tell me how to charge it? It is off the motorbike, I followed instructions, and managed to remove it, it is housed on the left side, I do not even understand the instructions on the battery charger, it is a noco genius 1. So the rectifier may be not yet the problem. It could be the battery. Please, you talk sense and knowledge. Many thanks

Is a voltage regulator/rectifier also protecting the battery from being overcharged? Or how is the amps regulated? A 3ah battery should for example be charged with only 0,3 amps. Where is that regulated?

Nice video Vikas, much appreciated. I have a Suzuki DRZ 400E that is only 9 months old and I'm having battery/charging problems. After fully charging the battery overnight I can start the bike but after about 1 hour of riding and stopping and starting my battery went flat. I have measured the following. Engine off & key off: 12.6 V, Engine off & key on & light on: 12.2 V, Engine running idle: 12.56 V, Engine running at 3000rpm: 12.51 V. Not long ago I submerged the bike in water. I carefully cleaned the bike but perhaps something has happened because of that. Any suggestions where I should start trouble shooting?

I have had to replace 3 batteries in the last six months - the same thing happened on all 3 occasions : 1. The engine killed once and two other times, applying pressure on accelerator would make wierd engine noises, 2. The bike once switched off, would not start again, 3. The battery was really hot on all 3 occasions, 4. The battery showed proper voltage but would not charge, 5. All the 2 prior batteries I replaced, would heat every time I rode and on the off occasion, when I rode a little longer than usual with a pillion, point 1 to 3 would repeat, 6. Finally on the third occasion, I changed the regulator rectifier and now the latest battery does not heat at all after riding. I am not sure if my issue is resolved, still can't be confident going on long rides.

Hello Vikas, great video it's extremely informative, however I know this video is old but i'm just having this problem now. My 2003 Yamaha r1 is having charging issues. The battery is a which is a generic brand that makes various parts in my country so it might be the battery. However I just tested my stator a couple of hours ago and it's reading 0.4 ohms to 0.5 ohms which it should usually be between 0.2 to 0.4 so i'm not sure if it's that either. If I understand correctly the only way to test rectifier/regulator would be to check for browning of the wires? I guess that's my next move and if i'm still not sure what it is exactly i'm going to claim my batteries warranty and replace the rectifier/regulator. Any thoughts? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! -Nigel

Hello Sir, I have a Hero Maestro(2014) and the problem it was showing was that during honking or using the indicators the headlight would dim. So got the scooter diagnosed and the problem was found to be a faulty regulator rectifier. After getting it changed a new problem arised which is that the scooter won't start now. Got it checked and the battery without the scooter running showed 12.5v and after starting and revving up her bit the voltage climbed upto 13.5v. So is it the problem with the rectifier or the battery? Also I highly suspect that those guys have really changed the rectifier.

Great video man!! Im having problems with my Haybusa 1300 from 2000 I already changed the spark plugs and the battery so I only have two more things to deal with, the stator and regulator ok this is what happen every time when I turn it on, it turns off by itself right away if I don't pull the hand grip fast and when it turns on it runs just fine..
