Yes, there are sure a lot of loopholes. You pretty much covered them all. One thing you sort of mentioned, but some may have missed it. Anytime anything changes. Notify your insurance. Great video as always, straight content. Issue.... Have you told your Truck insurer you have installed a 5th wheel and given them a value ? or the car dolly behind your motorhome ? They need to be covered for liability as well as the value as they are often put in storage or stored behind the parked unit. Kid rides his bike into it. How is it covered ? How are you protected. or the extra GPS and camera units in the truck or RV, who is covering them of the truck or RV is stolen they are part of the truck if they are mounted. In Ontario the optional equipment is usually only covered for $1500.00 in a Truck. I am a Broker in Ontario Canada and most of the companies that offer stand alone RV insurance offer a rider for new units REPLACEMENT COST COVERAGE (SOME FOR UP TO 10 YEARS). They require a bill of sale and a list of items you have added to the unit on the bill of sale. If you added a washer/dryer provide a bill of sale and pictures showing it was installed. This also applies to Solar equipment $$$$$$, Generators $$$$ now bolted into the unit. Remember you need to be able to get another unit. Also note that the bill of sale will show the (SALE) purchase price and the tax paid. However I tell my clients to go by the MSRP (AT THE TOP OF THE BILL- PRIOR TO ANY DISCOUNTS - TRADE IN VALUE) add the extras purchased the add the tax to get the actual replacement cost. Paying a extra $50.00 a year could save thousands of dollars. The other item you mentioned was extra expense coverage. Here it's 10% of the insured value, so not a lot of coverage. That can also be increased with most companies. IF YOU REQUEST IT. Insurance coverage in Ontario is very expensive and getting half of what you think you should get because you were cheap, that it won't happen to you, really haven't we seen all the videos. I travel with a guy that has his RV on a car policy, he won't insure it with me as I am twice the price. I hope he never has a claim as he placed it with a direct company, wonder whom he will call if something happens. We also disclose how long we are in the USA for a snowbirds. They know I answer calls and process documents from my trailer for clients. FYI if a insurance company in Ontario Canada fails to settle a claim here in 30 days you can request the Ontario Government step in as well as other consumer safe guards that are in place to deal with insurance claims. Bottom line is you get what you paid for !

I had USAA and had no problems at all with them replacing my roof when I went under a low hanging limb. The thing I would like to alert you to is that when anyone stops going up and down the road and places their RV in a permanent spot in a campground year round they may not be covered. Thankfully we didn't learn this the hard way ,but found out that because we were not on the road we were not covered. Thankfully for us there was an Insurance Agent in the Campground who knows about this problem and was able to get us a policy tailored to our specific needs. Good job on this video and keep things coming

Photos are great: include nameplates. I made a spreadsheet of items stolen (house burglary) replacement cost and the insurance company's multipliers. The insurance company estimate shorted me $500. I showed them my indisputable math and got the $500. It was a lot of work and took over a month.

In some states, you can hire a certified public adjuster. They work for a percentage of the settlement, usually 5%. Extreme case but makes a point. An old Masonic Hall in Seattle was hit by arson. The insurance company offered $225,000. The CPA pointed out the building was built with "real" 2x4, 2x6, etc, ie full 2". That was what the insurance company had insured and the settlement ended up at nearly seven figures. That CPA had a crew who would inventory the contents of a home down to a box of toothpicks.

John and Mercedes... dragonslayers! ❤️ Most of what I know about insurance is through my Dad. After he retired from the Navy in '72, went through training and took a job as an adjuster. His conscience made him quit less than three months later. Each and every point is SPOT ON, especially having an agent and photographing EVERYTHING. Insurance is one of those things we all hate but desperately need (maybe it should be "death, taxes and insurance"). Unfortunately many people are looking for a bargain and have forgotten "you get what you pay for", or are fooling themselves thinking "that will never happen to me". Thanks for all you do!!!

Mom managed one of the Apt complexes, Dad ran maint mngt for the group, they got a really nice apartment rent free and a salary, and of course they had full Navy retiree benefits - all their medical care was done at Balboa in San Diego. Hi, I am an independent insurance adjuster, It is heartbreaking in my job I see so many people who are under insured or do not the right coverage or do not have the coverage they think they have for their RV and/or vehicle's. A good agent is a must, also many ins companies have switched to "virtual appraisals" which are always low balled. In most states you can request an eyes on inspection, a big tip is to do your homework before the appraiser arrives.

At the end of the day for the same coverage Erie was Half the price for identical coverage. It definitely is worth shopping around especially if you have been with one insurer a long time in which case you might have discounts applied especially if you have no claims.

Windshield replacement can be a problem if you do it too often. We had about eight windshield replacement claims across three vehicles in a four year period. When we went shopping for RV insurance for our HDT (big rig truck) hauler and 5th wheel trailer, some companies (not all) wouldn't even quote us. Recently, we just had a small crack on our Jeep's windshield which we paid $60 out of pocket for preventative repair. And now our daughter's car (that we co-own) developed a crack overnight and we're considering paying out of pocket on this too. No Bueno.

I am hoping to get a used Ford Transit Cargo van for camping and personal travel. NO BUSINESS USE (YT video, or commercial hauling, etc), but will have full coverage for interior possessions as well as mechanical, medical, etc, Will I need to document every single item and it’s cost of what it took to complete the interior, etc? Can you give names of insurance companies to AVOID or RECOMMEND and why ot? Do I simply say that the vehicle will be used ONLY personal travel?

Thanks for the information. Yes insured must make full disclosure when shopping for coverage. In addition on boat and RV policies I only purchase “agreed value “ policy. Not ACV (actual cash value) policy such as a motor vehicle policy. If I were financing the RV I would opt for a gap or full replacement policy or at a minimum loan payoff policy. Also opt for purchasing endorsements that cover electronic equipment or other expensive gear that the base policy may not cover. Finally, when you get a new policy read it! Maybe boring but it is the contract with the carrier and you need to know what the terms and conditions are.

A few years ago our TT was totaled by a tree at a Nashville KOA! It was on their land, but their fence was placed on the ‘inside’ of it. Soooo they took no responsibility! Our insurance with USAA (after I sent them our pictures) did us well. The problem came with their hired estimater who showed up when we weren’t there, didn’t see I left the door unlocked for him to look inside, he didn’t have a ladder, and only looked at the front! The massive tree landed on the slide, blew the rig off its jack pads, busted down the cabinets over our bed, and the rest of the tree landed on the front of the rig. The jerk showed up and only looked at the front, he told USAA it was a 1200 FIX!!! When they called me I was ticked! So I sent my pictures of the inside too!

April 6, 2021, just ran out to Costco near me and had to watch a RV owner with NJ tags pulling his very tall RV trailer through the parking lot that has many large live oak trees and he took off the ladder to the roof which was on the driver’s side because it’s a long toy hauler. Almost took off the roof AC. Ouch! Lesson is slow down and don’t get close to tree branches in parking lots.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!...this information is very important. Ya know,I had to ask Tim do we have this, do we have that covered for our “Lucy.”? There are several things we aren’t sure about, but we DO know our insurance will cover full replacement cost if she’s totalled. Definitely do NOT go cheap. Years ago we had AAA insurance. We had a tiny roll-in-the-bumper parked in front of our house. The bumper fell off because the bent COAT HANGER holding it up broke! They charged $96.00 to our insurance for the “repair.” Funny, our insurance premium went up exactly $96.00. 🤔. Watch who you are insured with AND what EXACTLY you’re covered for. Like your friends, you won’t find out until you file a claim, and then it’s too late. JOHN!!!...you and Tim are so much alike. He can’t STAND insurance. He feels you pay and pay and all they do is collect premiums. But they don’t come through when you do file a claim. Thanks again for this very informative video! Love you guys, Virginia. ❤️

Great info. I made a claim (a 12,000. dollar claim) 3 mos into my brand new class A. It doubled my insurance. Just last week I made another claim, the Progressive claim rep estimated it at 1,250. dollars (give me a break!) that is what replacing one awning would be but he thinks the one arm of the awning and patching the tear would cost. The said the end cap could be hammered and screwed in, without knowing if there is any underlying damage. I could go on and on! Anyhow, I sent the photos to my contact at Winnebago and their estimate came back more than double without actually seeing the RV! While I was making my claim I was talking about the policy which allows you to claim the purchase price or current value of the RV if it is totaled. The purchase price coverage is only good for 3 years past the date of manufacturing of the CHASSIS. Regarding the dings in the windshield, if you have more than 3 dings it has to be replaced. You can opt to not have it done they remind you that you are on a recorded line. I paid out of pocket to have 3 of the 6 dings repaired but just those 3 dings get included in the 6 dings that I have. The window has been ordered and the total is around 3600. dollars. 🤨 Always something with these RVs 🤔 Happy Tuesday. (Formerly Ole, Lena and the RV)

Tip #1, call your city or state insurance commission. The insurer may be required to evaluate your rig in specific ways, within a specific area and time. And the insurers will grossly violate those rules. Until you ask for the details and remind them, "the insurance commission specifically told me that's illegal'. All of a sudden, things change. Especially if you've been recording the calls, or have everything in writing.

Another great video of great service. Another thing is, if you have and better have replacement value on your insurance and your adjuster low balls you.....tell them to go find one just like you had in the same condition. This works on cars also. If they're going to repair it in most states you have the right to stipulate who will repair it. I really worry about the current trend of windshields on the front of travel trailers. They are expensive.....make sure they're covered also. Keep receipts on any improvements such as solar, satellite dishes etc besides the video documentation. There are good companies out there but they are few. My wife worked at a claims office for a major insurance company that begins with a T. They were actually really fair with their claimants. I was actually surprised at some of the settlements that they made. Having a AGENT that you can actually talk to is the key. They know how to structure the needed coverage and when there is a claim they know how to work the system to get a better settlement. As a general rule anytime a RV's combination of frame, roof and axles get damaged push to have it totaled. If you need a new roof here is the guy to have it done: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3a4no1qYt9keMmXommercial roof with a 20 year warranty. The material he uses is I believe 4 times thicker than the normal roof material. Loved the Insurance salesmen in black suits working over that opossum. Although I thought at first they were Camping World salesmen LOL!!! Love you guys! God Bless and keep up the good work!

I've always wanted to get an RV, my wife doesn't like the cost. With that said I will check out the rvoc insurance for sure. And the picture documentation is a good idea for home owners also.

Good advice guys... I think most RV insurance company adjusters were once salesmen at C**per World but found they could make more money sending out claim denial letters to the people who bought the RV. Same with boats... it’s all disgusting...

Funny thing we just got our renewal for nsurance for the RV. IT WENT UP $160.00 from last year. We've stayed home because of covid and life. We took it out for about 90 day hunt trip and they havecthe nerve to raise it. My husband said Flo lied bundle my ass..... Haha take care out there guys.

Charolette is not licensed in our state. Is there any other agency that you would recommend? I called our auto insurance and they had no idea what a 5th wheel was and could not answer questions like if the hitch, mudflaps, truck bed toolbox, tonneau cover and other items were covered or if they needed to be in a rider. Looking for other insurance at this time.

I just decided to give up part-time rving before looking into insurance, will reconsider, have you thought of doing similar for those who need to use public storage? Looking at websites for outdoor covered parking space at approximately $200 or more monthly year round for some retirees gets expensive. Thanks for all you do.

I learned that last bonus tip years ago and know for sure how much of an asset video(s) or pictures can actually be when it comes to insurance. Bonus Tip: For anyone looking to make extra cash ... Offering video and/or scripted services to document home and RV possessions can be very lucrative. I was doing it years ago before cellphones were even invented. :)

We had bought glass coverages for our class a and we lost a windshield in Texas from a flatbed dropping a fist sized rock, he passed us and then cut us off at 70 mph. I slowed and the rock came off took one bounce and hit the drivers windshield and almost removed the windscreen. DO get full coverages for accidents because it took 2 weeks for the repair and they shipped the wrong glass. I took 6 months and a ton of calls to get the 2nd glass in and our claim settled. We could had and should had used our coverage for room and board and secure storage for our class a. IF it happens again I will. I had to duct tape the windshield in place to keep it from falling out so it was unsafe to drive. We were lucky we limped into a free city campground that bad full hook ups for 3 days at that time in Elk City. I spoke to the city manager of Parks asking him which private parks I should head to due to a 2 week wait and he told us to stay in our spot intil the glass was installed cost us nothing. That park now charges 15 bucks a night but is worth every penny. It's small 5 spots on a very nice city lake.

In an video last year you mentioned Marty. We got several quotes from different agents and Marty was so helpful. We did alot of research on what to know, but still so much yo be aware of. He was so knowledgeable and completely walked us through. (Newbies)We went with him. Thank you for your great recommendation.

I had gap insurance on my travel trailer, so when I wound up totalling it, my insurance company paid off the trailer and then gave me the rest of the original price to buy another travel trailer.

A great believe in insurance, remember also the insurance company can be held criminally liable if the over pay a claim. Regretfully 1/3-1/2 of all claims are fraudulently created or inflated.
@RVOddCouple3 жыл бұрын
Very true! This is why we need an Agent to explain what the contract says.

An insurance company can be held criminally liable if they overpay on a claim? That doesn't even make sense. I don't know where you got that idea, but it's not true.

@@Milesco The charge could grow out of laws about complicity or accomplice after the fact as the money belongs to the stock holders.

@@fredricunderhill204 : If you're talking about a conspiracy by the corporate managers to rip off the company for their own benefit and use inflated insurance payouts as the mechanism for doing that, then yes. But that would be a major crime and a far cry from anything we've discussed here. And then it would be the corporate managers themselves, not the corporation, that would be criminally liable.

Ok, I'm counting on you. Went to your site, and contacted Charlotte Insurance (actually Progressive policy). It was marginally more expensive than GEICO - so I'm counting on you. And almost as if y'all coached them -- Hector went down the list and was ticking every point on my list from your video. SCORE !

You are such a blessing. I haven’t started my rv journey yet, but I know I’ll avoid a lot of mistakes when I do because of you. Can you do a video of how “handy” you need to be to full time rv? Can “anyone” who owns a home/is sort of mechanically inclined jump in an rv full time? Are there places that can handle all the upkeep for you on the road like there are auto shops for cars? Thanks!

Since we keep it real here I did get a quote back from Marty's company. Unfortunately it was 400 higher that I currently pay. It was suggested that I get personal affects insurance to cover personal items in the camper. I felt this was unnecessary because these items would be covered on my homeowners. They replied back was better to have a claim with one policy on the trailer. My thought is if the items are covered on homeowners why double insure them. The quote I received was with progressive in the state of Texas. I am not an insurance expert, this was just my experience.

I will be interested in getting insurance coverage thru Marty just as soon as I get my RV. Lol. But for now I have a question. Awhile back when I was taking my kids camping and was also moving horses around I was told by my insurance company that I didnt need separate insurance for either the pop up trailer or the horse trailer. That they were covered by the tow vehicle. As long as my truck was insured so were the trailers. I am not sure what coverage if any that these trailers would have today. This was about 20 years ago. Thanks guys, I appreciate your help. Give Sage a hug and kiss from me.

My wife used to transcribe for an insurance company. Hearing both sides of the accident, she could tell who was the insured and who wasn't. Here's a few tips if you are in an accident or some type of loss. 1. Never admit anything. Something as little as saying I'm sorry this happened to you is you the insurance says you are admitting it is your fault. 2. The take a video of your possessions is big. If they are stolen or damaged, you have VIDEO evidence. 3. Keep receipts of valuable items.
