Former prime minister Gordon Brown shares his thoughts on the Rwanda bill with Kay Burley and asks "if it's not working, why is all this money being spent on the policy?"
First though, he talked about a scheme he is leading to help those impacted by the cost of living crisis, saying he is seeing poverty he thought he "wouldn't see in his lifetime again".

His reputation on the international stage is far higher than here at home and that’s largely due to the UK media. And as for his famous private remarks about Gillian Dufy, he wasn’t wrong about her and these are the people whose votes have led us to disaster after disaster in the past 10 years.

People seem to forget thet even if Csmeron was PM in 2008 that the UK would still have entered what was a totally unavoidable global recession. Cameron and Osbourne both stood up in the Commons and 100% backed Brown's economic measures before the UK entered recession. It was only when it was obvious that the UK was entering recession like the rest of the world that Cameron suddenly changed tack as though the UK would never have entered recession had he been the tory PM which is complete nonsense. It was certainiy not a UK only recession either what the tories claimed, And the tories approaching the 2010 general lied that the UK was still in recession when the UK had alresdy out of recession before the end of 2009. Brown brought the UK out of recession, not Csmeron. It onky lasted 5 qusrters. The UK was also in s deep recession in 1992 under Major to prove that deep recessions do happen in the UK under tory governments. We are still in a cost of living crisis right now even if the tories are trying to claim it was sll over. The tories crowed avout the 3.9% figure, but now it's jumped 4% it's a huge shock to their system. The tories are lykng about the figure snyway, it's a lot higher than they are claiming. It was only less thsn a year ago that Uk recession was at its highest value since the 1980's and that was under Thstcher's tory government too.

Oh how different the country could have been after 2010. Let this be a warning for anyone still remotely tempted to vote Tory this year. Look what they did after 2010, and we're paying the price 14 years later. Labour's messaging might be off and the leader might be not so charismatic, but their heart is in the right place.

It was Darling who proposed the austerity plan that Brown was forced to agree to. That was picked up by Cameron. Labour had left nothing but debt. Love the way the extremists on the left try to rewrite history.

@ravd8082 Imagine they hadn't bailed the banks out for just a moment... Homeowners would have had their houses repossessed. Interest rates would have had to go up, and the money supply would have been shutdown... The Tories wasted years with austerity when they should have invested in infrastructure which has led the UK to have stagnant growth. The problem was the Greenspan deregulation started with Thatcher and Reagan in the 1980s and continued through until now... This basically makes the rich richer and creates a new kind of feudal system.

Brown didn't cause the pound to fall to US$1.03 or UK inflation to soar to double figures very recently. Brown was last PM far too long ago for such figures to be linked to him or caused by him. Calling him the man entirely to blsme for the curent problems, and Callaghsn and Wilson for the 1980's UK inflation rises, the fall of the pound in the 1980's and 1992 recession is ridiculous.

Yeah but it was a good few years before American greed crashed the system. The one shame was that productivity wasn't improved, too much focus on financial services.

Brown's bottom actually shows why having our national assets in gold is a terrible idea, and proves that he was right to sell them.

Why do tories always bring up the national debt? For one, when the economy is growing as quickly as it did under new labour, it doesn't matter because it doesn't get more expensive to maintain the debt. For two, the tories have increased the debt to record heights so decrying labour is hypocritical

Ignoring facts then, blame or bury the truth then. Torris took over an economy that was wasted. Fact.

Well he certainly knows all about wasting money ... left us nearly bankrupt. He sent our lads to war without the proper kit. Him and his mate Blair got blood on their hands!
