Rwanda paid for flight that led to Paul Rusesabagina arrest | UpFront

In a special edition of UpFront, we ask Rwanda’s justice minister about the circumstances surrounding government critic Paul Rusesabagina’s sudden appearance in Kigali, after years of living in exile.
Human rights organisations, members of the United States Congress and the European Parliament have described Rusesabagina's rendition to Rwanda as illegal under international law.
Johnston Busingye admits Rwanda did pay for the plane that transported Rusesabagina to the capital and defends the right of prison authorities to monitor the correspondence between the political dissident and his legal counsel. The Rwandan government has charged Rusesabagina with "terrorism-related offences".

Rusesabagina was intercepted _while in the process of committing more crimes._ He was on his way to Burundi to organize more attacks on Rwanda. Stopping a criminal who is in the act is vital. Many families were thus saved.

I think what the Minister was saying was that the recording of the interview between Rusesabagina and his lawyer was for security purposes only and that no part of it was given to the prosecution lawyers. That seems reasonable if it is true and I trust the Minister.

Also note that even the term “his lawyer” is subject to question. The confidentiality is limited only to his attorneys of record, who must be licensed to practice law in Rwanda. But you had a whole bunch of individuals all over the world (in Canada, US, Belgium, and all the way to Australia) looking to make a buck and proclaiming themselves to be his attorneys. Totally laughable. They had no credentials in Rwanda and no legal privileges there.
