Fun fact about Qrows semblance: If you go back and watch scenes with Qrow from his first appearance in Vol. 3, there are examples of his bad luck that happen around him without explanation. Really cool attention to detail and it shows how far back that aspect of his character was designed

Some Semblances can be activated (Ruby's speed, Weiss' glyphs, etc.) but some can be passive, like Yang's powerup Semblance working as long as she can take a strong hit and keep standing. Qrow's Semblance is passive in that he can never turn it off or control it, it just happens whether he likes it or not. So he sees himself as bringing constant bad luck and is why he prefers spending long periods away from his family or working missions alone. You can see it happening during his fight with Tyrian, when Tyrian stepped on the exact wrong piece of wood on the roof and just collapsed through the roof.

That's a send off. His semblance affects everything around him. We've seen his own bad luck disadvantage him as well. He just has no choice because it's coming from him so he stays alone and bears the burden in silence.

After watching the whole show again I noticed that when qrow was first shown in the show in the crowbar, I saw that after he left the store the glass falls off from the bartender I guess that's cause of qrow semblance

Qrow's not a reclusive alcoholic because he's an ass. He's actually a really good person at heart. It's just that whenever he gets close to anyone, bad things happen to them, and he knows he's at fault. Qrow acts like a bit of an ass in Volume 3 at times, but it's only because he's an outcast--he's not an outcast because he's a jerk. When Qrow was in the bar watching the tournament, when he left, the bartender dropped his glass. They've been foreshadowing this for a while, people were predicting it back in Vol 3 too. If you think back to all of Qrows appearances, his semblance makes so much sense. Like during the Red trailer when Ruby was attacked by a ton of Grimm whilst Qrow was watching over her, and also during the attack on Beacon when Ironwood was attacked out of nowhere by a griffin whilst Qrow was there. Then during Volume 3 in Qrow vs Winter, Ironwood came in and stopped Winter from attacking and she was berated for that. More recently there was also Tyrian finding (possibly killing) the waitress that Qrow interacted with. Not to mention the wooden beam falling on Ruby in the fight against Tyrian. Qrow’s character arc is a really tragic one. Another Patreon supporter noted this already so I'll just post it here: Ruby Rose - Little Red Riding Hood (Wears a red hood, is first seen fighting wolves, and is called Red by Torchwick.) Weiss Schnee - Snow White (Her name means white snow, her leitmotif song is called mirror mirror, and her necklace has an apple on it.) Blake Belladonna Belle from Beauty and the Beast (Though in this case Blake is the beauty and the beast. @@kyos85 Ruby was always depicted as an expert marksman. Picking off the geist grimm who was on the run at a distance with a single shot in episode 4x1. Being able to hit Nora seemingly at a distance, while partially obscured by Tyrian. Again with a single shot. She had quite a few long range shots while in motion in her 1st and 2nd character trailers. So based on all that I think she is an excellent shot as depicted. I always imagined Qrow's "bad luck" forming a sphere around him. Extending out in all directions for several feet. Forming a bubble of misfortune around him, if you will. I submit, Tyrian found himself in that bubble while stationary and in close proximity to Qrow. Qrow's bad luck caused Tyrian to miss or not expect his punches. Unfortunately, this also allowed Tyrian to avoid and deflect Ruby's incoming ordinance as it entered Qrow's influence. (Even Tyrian seemed surprised he could easily deflect the bullets.) This is the very reason Qrow wanted Ruby and company to stay way back and not get involved in the fight. Might also explain why Tyrian seemingly missed Qrow at point blank range at the start of the fight when he revealed his wrist guns. Like Qrow said, his semblance can be hard on friends and family.

One thing i like about Qrow's semblance is the way he uses it in battle; like, the way in a one-on-one, he can direct that bad luck towards his opponent; but when fighting with allies/a team, he can't control it enough for it not to affect them as well. And like you guys said, it's why he kept asking Ruby not to interfere in the fight. (which in hindsight, like the dude had 16 years to tell her about it, especially if they ever trained together lol)

Jaune's grandfather was a hero in the great war from 80 years ago. We learned this in season 1. His sword and shield are the same ones his grandfather used (though now altered in memory of Pyrrha).. Qrow was saying that this time, Jaune would have to fight if a war breaks out, just like his grandfather.

The worst thing about it is, where do you draw the line between your semblance's bad luck and life being shitty? In Vol 3 Qrow told Yang, "sometimes bad things just happen," and Yang went on to repeat that to Ruby. But that means something different to him, that doesn't really apply to other people. It's probably something he has to tell himself to maintain his sanity.

So just some extra clarification on Qrow’s semblance. Essentially how it works is Qrow can use aura to actively use it in a fight and put his enemy at a disadvantage, but it also passively occasionally spikes outside of his control.

My theory on Blake leaving at this point was for two main reasons. 1. She needed a safe space 2. She felt like by being close to the rest of the team would put them at risk and with what happened to Yang, she saw them as vulnerable … I mean Adam said he’d make it his business to mess with everything she loved… While this might seem like she’s putting her family in danger, arguably they have better security, aren’t as likely to be as vulnerable and they’d probably be at risk regardless, because they are her family… I might have been wrong though.

I know Qrow is supposed to be the depressed alcoholic but honestly Tai had much better reasons to be the alcoholic. Qrow is more of a pity party on a few occasions. No I'm not saying he doesn't have reasons to stay away from people I actually think that's a good idea but anytime something bad happens he blames his semblance despite the fact it's actually the consequences of everyone's actions leading to said situation. It doesn't happen all the time but I'm still annoyed by it other then that I don't have any major problems with him. And yeah, Jaune has the right to be shitty after what happened. I know that he tries to pick himself up along the way but he still has it with him which is perfectly understandable since the person who unlocked his aura, put her faith in him, respected him as a leader despite her own status, believed in him when not ONE person has before, and cared so much for the lives of others she was willing to give up her soul if it meant protecting Remnant died in large part with all of Ozpin and his groups lies and manipulation (and even larger due to the b*tch Cinder).

Jaune starts bugging me at this point. He's free to blame himself for Pyrrha's death all he likes, but don't put it on others. Great origin myth. I agree with the notion that if life *can* thrive, it always *will.* Note that the god of darkness made monsters that were twisted parodies of his brother's animals, before humanity ever came to be. Qrow's semblance is not the bird thing, which is interesting... from the moment the bartender at the Crow Bar dropped the glass, we've seen evidence of his semblance at work. It's why he waited for Raven to move her mask before joining her at the table. Meanwhile, on Menagerie, no self-respecting ninja would ever intentionally silhouette themselves against the moon (but it made for a good wallpaper). Oh, hey, he's sick, who woulda thunk it... everyone, *everyone* knew! Except the characters, for *some* reason! Qrow shouldn't have been walking, definitely should't have been drinking. He should've been lying on his back, keeping his heartrate down, telling the kids what herbs to look for to make an antivenin. For someone who's spent so much time outside the kingdoms, he should know better. I suppose it's not 'stupid for the sake of the plot' so much as stupid for the sake of a cliffhanger that surprised absolutely no one, but it's certainly contrived.

Why do you find that moment good that's abuse she slapped him multiple times across the face and clearly felt pain then he got his stuff broken because she threw it he doesn't deserve that and then her voice actor gave a awful excuse because she was abused she can abuse her friends. And this episode literally follows the one where wiess dad hit her. She does not get a pass from being abusive not because she's a cat girl and not because she's the main character when Adam slaps her it's dramatic but when Blake slap sun it's made for laughs that is awful and you should feel too.

@@KeLeWhitfield Even without seeing the relevant quote, I can tell you are misrepresenting what the voice actor said. Explaining a character’s actions is not the same as making excuses for them or condoning their actions. Based of what you said, it makes sense, Sun is notorious for not respecting people’s boundaries and engaging in stalker-like behaviour, which would remind Blake of Adam, her abuser. And Sun isn’t a unique case, Blake of suspicious of Yang after the incident with Mercury because of how familiar it was to see someone perform an act of excessive violence and make excuses for it after the fact. She may not have physically hurt Yang then, but I’d argue the pain Yang felt from not having Blake’s trust was worse than what Sun (whose thought giant robots and dragons) suffered from a few slaps to the cheek.

@@BlueButterfly015 a few slots on the cheek excuse you he was clearly upset and hurt by that and you do not get to compare him to Adam he's not abusive and the quote on quotes stalker that's sun is that's a lie he's not trying to stalk her he's trying to make sure she's okay because she ran away from her friends and he's the only friend that she has left right now. So she didn't think about that instead of hitting the only friend she has left. Finally how the sun remind her of Adam they they have different personalities they treat Blake differently so you don't have the right to compare them.

@@KeLeWhitfield Interesting how quick you are to defend Sun but not Yang when I pointed out that SOME of their actions (but not their intentions) are comparable to Adam’s (especially from the point of view from the abuse survivor). I also made no comment about his character beyond his issue with boundaries, for instance I never claimed that anything he did was with any intent to harm or control Blake. And for the record, following Blake when she very obviously did not want to be followed, was bordering if not stepping over a line, regardless of intent or if things worked out better in the end. There was also his poor attempt to eavesdrop this very episode, then before all that it was climbing up a tree outside her team’s private dorm. He has a pattern of behaviour that is very concerning even though we know he means no harm.

There is a theory that Qrow is Ruby’s father. The theory goings that during there time at Beacon Tai and Raven got together and Qrow and Summer ( Ruby’s mom) got together. Then years later Yang was born. Then Raven left. Than Ruby’s was born, and after that Summer left on a mission and never came back ( presumed dead) and because Qrow’s semblance is bad luck he asked Tai to raise Ruby as his daughter, and let Ruby think he is her uncle so Qrow can still be in her life without having her in danger.
