the writers actually loved him so much they keeped him on for volumes 2 and 3. originally he was going to only appear in volume 1 but they loved how the character turned out they keeped him on for a bit.

Really the writers should have realised the gold mine they were sitting on with his character. He's about the only villain who had an established presence to all four of the main cast before the volume 5 finale and he was just a fun villain. He called Weiss ice queen, jokes around with Blake, calls Ruby red, and probably would still call out Yang for her broken semblance. Really the only reason they wanted to get rid of him was that he was too light-hearted for the Salem gang. Plus let's be honest, he's the best visually designed human villain of the bunch, no doubt about that.

In every scene, Roman had control. He never lost his composure, he never dropped his act. The one time he cut lose, let his anger take him, he paid for it. The guy let all of his negative emotions ring out at the worst possible time.

Then Ruby got in and was taken out before she even did anything 🤣 volume 1 battle was the best. And he only ran because Penny just destroyed everything with that OP power of hers. Roman was not the most powerful but he was skilled enough to give the team a hardtime. I'm not seeing Emerald or Mercury (just 1 of them) doing what Roman did in the docks. Still, I'd like to think Roman's battle with Blake in the train was a joke. He got taken out way to easily. I hope he meant to lose, cause if not I would say he was (kinda) nerfed.

@@eve9268 Not sure if my commentary is worth your time or not, but I have a semblance Idea for Roman that'll let him survive being eaten by a Grimm: Will-o-the-Wisp. It has 2 uses, offense and defense. Offense lets him throw blue fire made of the angry souls of all who died during the battle of beacon. Defense literally will not let him die to anything but Natural causes. Both definitions of Will-o-the-Wisp fit Torchwick: Both a ball of blue fire and a person who is difficult or impossible to find, reach or catch.

Roman has one of the coolest fighting styles in the show. I love he uses his cane as a melee weapon, and was even skilled enough to dodge all of Sun's gun-chucks. Even without a semblance, he's a total badass.

Yeah, he's certainly a really solid fighter in more straightforward combat (Amazing defense and counter hit skills with that cane) But sadly his lack of a semblance and proper training in using his aura and dust makes him less adaptable and thus vulnerable to the more unconventional kinds of attacks that combine semblances, dust and aura (A weakness Blake exploited in volume 2) He just doesn't have an answer to that sort of stuff (Then again he had Neo for that stuff) Pity he never discovered his semblance though. I can think of a few that'd suit him.

Roman is the perfect example that quality is before quantity. Our man didn’t even have 30 minutes of screentime and yet he’s to this day, and after 5 volumes of his passing, the greatest RWBY villain ever. Is kinda what they did with Dimentio in Super Paper Mario, he only appears in one game and dies, but still is by far the fiercest and coolest foe.

Honestly I used to wonder if Roman threw that fight on purpose since he didn't land a single hit, but I couldn't think of why, so its more likely he was just taken by surprise when Blake busted out all those new tricks. Plus as capable as he is in a brawl, I'm fairly sure Roman is more a mastermind than a straight up fighter and Neo is actually his muscle, though he and Neo did show some awesome teamwork against Ruby.

The only true loss I remember Neo taking was against Cinder. Yeah they didn't continue fighting, but they stopped because Neo KNEW she was outmatched and she would have gotten destroyed once Cinder busted out her Maiden powers

Watching this again made me realise how much better the show used to be. I don’t want to reiterate the same points made over and over, but there aren’t any enjoyable characters anymore. After Romans early retirement, the only characters that I liked were Qrow and Neo, and now that Qrow’s been ruined, Neo’s the only reason I’m sticking around. Also, none of the new villains are as good as Roman, none of them can match his charisma and style

I truely loved the early show, the comedy and fun mixed with epic high speed fights was amazing, then Monty died and the show lost its spark. They made the mistake of changing the tone and they lost their path. Pyrah and torchqick died and the show lost two amazing characters and it never recovered. The show lost its innocence but never found what it wanted to become afterwards. The fights grew stale, the drama grew annoying and no villain truly could outdo the charisma of torchwick, the menace of cinder or the mystery of Salem. Adam was a constant enemy and honestly I liked the early versions of the Grimm. They weren’t even evil, they were actually a threat against evil. The more evil and negativity a place had the bigger chance of its destruction.

I miss the Roman. He and qrow were my favorite characters. Qrow is still here but he’s not the same. He and Roman were the paragons of the early show. Epic fighters who excelled in their specialty. Qrow was the sarcastic humor, torchqick was the dry wit. He was amazing and his lines were as well. He was also an interesting character for how self serving he was over any other goal. He worked for Salem but he only used her to survive, he worked with the white fang and the gangsters but he only used them to accomplish his goals. The only person he didn’t use was neo and I can respect that. He was a liar, a cheat, a coward, a comedian, a pessimistic pain in the ass and a man I will miss greatly. A true magnificent bastard.

He was also extremely well-read and invented his own slang. So they didn't give him Alex's personality. Because it would have been way too extreme for this show.
