All the nostalgia … couple things: 1) all the tunes are finished at the end of the seasons. When they show up in the episodes, Jeff has only written those 30-40 seconds worth. He later goes back and finishes them for the OST. 2) Jeff and Casey sing everything themselves and Jeff sings all the background vocals and harmonies .. no matter how high they are. 3) in volumes 1-6 Jeff plays, programs, mixes, masters everything himself.. sometimes Alex (other composer) will play some extra guitar parts. (Some guest artists will show up later) 4) Jeff was never under contract to write full songs for the OSTs, it’s just something he wanted to do for the fans.

You all should definitely go to Flynt of Rwby next time for songs, he may not have all of them but the lyrics are at least correct. That and listen to the full songs. The great thing about RWBY and it’s soundtrack is that it not only gives you a more in-depth look into each character, their struggles, and their goals but it the opening and endings set the tone for the entire season and even give you some subtle hint and context clues on how things are going to transpire. For this reason, that’s why it’s best to listen to the full songs after you’ve finished the seasons you’re on, that way you can look back and pick apart the song to see just what it was trying to get across :)

Y'all dove so well into what the lyrics meant to you and what you think it means to/for the characters, which is really great and I don't always see on other channels. Like you've done all volume you got some right and some wrong and I am VERY excited for you to learn which is which going forward. Like I said on your reaction to the last chapter, Wings (the final song on the soundtrack) is my favorite from this volume's soundtrack, but I'm a sucker for lighter songs. As far as From Shadows (Blake's song), I've never felt it was that she had to fight against a dark side within her, it's more that she realized that she HAD been headed down that path and realized it wasn't what she wanted. I'd say more but spoilers...possibly big ones.
@nigel79762 жыл бұрын
Another thing that you guys should try to keep in mind is that if a lyric in the background catches your attention during a scene that is highlighting a character or two it could be giving someone’s perspective, although it’s not always the case: one example of the former here is “from shadows” where we are seeing the actions of Blake and Adam, but also getting their motivations and perspectives, there are a few other scenes where the music does the same thing giving characters perspectives in the moment, the best example being a fight scene in either volume 5 or 6

The song with the cast (Sun, Blake, Ruby, Weiss, and Yang) in the picture: the general consensus is that it's Weiss, Yang, and/or Ruby consoling Blake after Blake ran away (the 12 hours line specifically alludes to Weiss telling Blake how long they've been searching for her) Edit: also, many of the lyrics in these videos have incorrect lyrics or spellings of the lyrics, so some of the interpretations you may make might be a little off.
@Badger777222 жыл бұрын
FYI: For the future soundtrack reactions, the "gold standard" channel to use for the music videos is FlyntofRWBY (FoR). He has music videos for just about every song until you get into the later volumes, and since he got the lyrics directly from Jeff Williams, the composer, you don't have any problems with people trying to hear/figure out the lyrics from just listening to the songs. There are often a few typos (usually nothing too important) in those types of videos, but for V1 FlyntofRWBY only has 3 videos, so you pretty much have to go with other channels for most of the music videos. Using FoR music videos also means you'll get the actual songs from the soundtrack, not the remixes like the one that was in your playlist for I Burn (Yang's theme). At least your playlist version also included the full I Burn song, unlike some playlists. There are also different versions of the rap in I Burn - the one in your playlist is the "original", with the mature language. Since Jeff Williams had written songs for Red vs Blue which included mature language, he thought that would be okay for RWBY as well. It wasn't until the producers/creators actually heard his song that they let him know that RWBY was intended as a more "family friendly" show, and the mature language needed to be removed. So Jeff rewrote and had Lamar Hall re-record the rap with slightly different language. Most of the music videos have the family-friendly version of the rap, so you got something of a "treat" here. In all of the RWBY soundtracks, Red Like Roses Pt 2 is still my favorite overall song. There are a number of songs fighting it out for #2 (it changes depending on which one I've heard most recently), but RLR2 just hits something of a chord with me. And the perfect symmetry of a song that's lyrically a conversation between Ruby and her mother, sung by Casey and her own mother, Sandy Casey, is just too good to miss. It's not unusual for people to not even pick up that there are two different voices in the song, since Casey and her mother have very similar voices.

Red Like Roses Part II was about Ruby and her deceased mother Summer Rose (Which is the grave Ruby walks away from at the beginning of the Red Trailer). Awesomely enough Summer's parts are sung by Sandy Lee Casey who's the mother of Casey Lee Williams, so the song is a mother/daughter duet from both an in-universe and IRL perspective. PS: The last song "Wings" is about how Blake ran away from the team in Volume 1.

I Burn is my favorite song from Volume 1. There’s a funny story about the explicit lyrics. They asked if they could say cuss words, but there was some sort of confusion and they thought it would be fine as long as the explicit lyrics didn’t appear in the show, so they did the explicit version, but they later learned that they were mistaken, so there’s a clean(er) version where the only word they say is “kick my ass” and that’s the one that officially released.

Okay, yeah, you should definitely check out FlyntOfRWBY's video for "From Shadows". The version you watched cuts out an entire verse. Flynt's version also does a much better job of communicating how the song isn't ALL Blake. It's a duet between her and Adam(the man with her in her Trailer). Adam is represented by Jeff, who sings the more aggressive lines, as a sign of how Adam is the more extreme, aggressive, and violent of the two.

So the music,... Monty Oum planned far ahead of the third season,.. and the music is a reflection of that. The first few song were used in the trailers. 'I Burn' is the Yang song, not the mashup remix of the trailer songs, despite it being the song in her trailer. Not only is it releveant to the character development but it is also a glimpse into the world lore. Most of my favorite tracks come from the 1st and 2nd season. This music is also easy listening outside of the RWBY verse,.. The main two vocalists you will hear throughout the show are Jeff, for male vocals, and his daughter, Casey Lee Williams (around 14 years old at the time of recording this volume), for the female vocals. Occasionally Lamar Hall will show up (about once a volume) to do a rap part… There is one guest on this volume, but the next guest vocalist doesn’t show up until volume 6… Almost everything is Jeff and Casey. Red Like Roses part 1 is from the red trailer and gives a brief outline of each of the RWBY girls, as you seemed to notice. Mirror Mirror, from the white trailer… Shows a fairly different side to Weiss… I think you got most of that too… One idea I might suggest though… Was Weiss worried about her heart being turned to stone? Or was she wanting her heart to turn to stone so she didn’t have to deal with her issues? It could be either of them lol. From Shadows, from the Black Trailer… I’d say it’s more where she is coming from than where she is going… Likely the female voice is Blake and the male vocals are her friend from the trailer, who she abandoned. I Burn… Clearly a fun Yang song! The version you heard was actually the original version. Rooster Teeth asked them to change it though, because they decided to aim the show at a younger audience, so the official version has some nice alternatives to the swearing, which I think is more creative lol. Gold is another Yang song, most likely… Almost certainly to Ruby… There are mentions of roses and the sun, the former often associated with Ruby, the latter with Yang… There may also be a reference to Summer Rose (rose on a summer’s day), the name on the grave that Ruby visits in the red trailer. Red Like Roses Part 2 is from when they fought the Nevermore (giant bird Grimm). Given the reference to roses, it most likely relates to Ruby… This song is the only one with a guest vocalist until volume 6. In this case it’s Casey’s mother… Maybe the song is between Ruby and her mother… The character in the white cloak/hood is likely Summer Rose, given that we see them by the grave that Ruby visits. Wings… The end credit song for the last chapter in the volume. This song is likely about Blake… There is mention of the 12 hours that they were looking for Blake and references to being stray, like a cat… I believe the song is from the point of view of Yang… Given the mention of the 12 hours, it’s likely Yang or Weiss… While Weiss is the one who mentions it, this does not seem like Weiss… In some ways you could argue that this song is similar to Gold… In both there are references to taking flight too, suggesting the same person singing, I think. Hopefully this adds a bit to what you already noticed.

So the song at around 24:00 is "I Burn," and this has two specific versions out there. The video you have is the uncensored first version, but later re-releases have Lamar Hall's rap verse made more...PG. Apparently during the writing process for this, they didn't realise RWBY was aimed at a slightly younger demographic because of RT mainly making content for adults at the time.

Red Like Roses Pt. II is a duet between Ruby and her mother, Summer Rose. Seems that she went to do something that caused her to die in the end. Wings is about Blake but Jeff Williams also wrote it about the loss of his to-be nephew.

Ok, so really stoked that ya'll are doing the soundtracks. Not only are they just really good songs but they do add a bit to the characters and the show over all. They're basically a must for the RWBY experience honestly. It's just crazy listening to 13 year old Casey after all the growth she's had for later seasons. I recommend for future lyric videos you use FlyntofRWBY until.... V7 I think because he stopped at that point. Use Sirs and Madams for V7 and 8. But, anyway, I genuinely love the soundtracks for this show. Jeff and Casey always kill it. -This Will Be the Day - Volume 1 OP and pretty solid. Great introduction to the world and to the threats in the shadows. -Red Like Roses - Red Trailer track. Mostly instrumental. Also foreshadowing the other three girls. That guitar though. -Mirror Mirror - White Trailer track. Mostly a nice insight into Weiss. Love that piano. Showing off Casey's insane soprano range, like dang girl. -From Shadows - Black trailer track. Really hints at the fact that Blake is a Faunus, what Faunus have been through, and how they plan to fix it. What you watched was the short version. Probably should check out the extended/actual version in your own time. FlyntofRwby has an excellent lyric video for it. Also, hey, Jeff (Casey's dad and song writer for the show) is on this track with Casey. Jeff tends to do most of the male vocals in this show. - I Burn (trailer remix) - Yellow trailer track. This is unfortunately, again, the trailer remix and not the full song. The only part of this that is actually Yang's song is at the very end. Still fun to tie in all the other tracks. -Gold - Appeared in the the credits of episode three I believe. A song from Yang to Ruby. It's genuinely such a sweet track and I'm a sucker for their sister dynamic. I especially really enjoy the slow down for the bridge. So sweet. - I Burn (full version) --- Yang's anthem. Yang can and will kick your ass and you'll thank her. Also the first introduction to Lamar Hall, the rapping legend. What you listen to was apparently the explicit version that isn't even sold anymore I don't think. Jeff wrote it before he knew what audience the show was aiming for. - I May Fall - Appeared in the episode 4 credits. Pretty self explanatory, possible foreshadowing and a banger. - Red Like Roses II - This played during the fight scene against the Nevermore and Deathstalker in episode 8. And the first and only appearance (thus far) of Casey's real mother Sandy singing Ruby's mom's parts. Man, this family is talented. And while this song is obviously Ruby and her mother, could also apply to Yang seeing as that was her mom too. Banger. - Wings - Volume 1 final episode end credits. Yang to Blake song. Some people think Weiss to Blake or all of Team Rwby to Blake (which is valid) but given some motifs and future things I'm inclined to say it's Yang to Blake. But again, my opinion. Nice slow ballad just telling Blake that it's going to be okay and that she's not alone.

The message of I May Fall is one I feel everyone should take some strength from. The song is about the acceptance that some day, you'll eventually die, that everything has an end that it's ever marching towards, but the defiance of accepting it's arrival. Even if you know that day WILL come, that doesn't mean you shouldn't fight to avoid it. Yes, you will die one day, but who's to say which one? Who's to say when and where that will be? No matter how bad something is, you can't know that is the day unless it actually ends, so why shouldn't you keep fighting until that very last moment in hopes you delay it once again, trusting that this day is not the one you know will everything come? The song is about keeping your will and strength to move forward no matter how bad things may seem, because you can never say there's no chance until the moment you actually fail.

Mirror Mirror was supposed to be Weiss singing at concert for a event her family held, where she fought a giant armored summon while singing. It was tragic because of how much she hates her father and brother who force her into those situations.

I just think it's funny how volume 1 was filled with silliness and wackiness since it was apparent that they had a story to tell but were just trying to gain a bit of footing still. Then you have the lyrics to the songs that are intense and dark, as they give you a bit of insight about the characters that the story hasn't even begun to explain in great detail yet. It's always entertaining to see other people react to it

Can't wait for future reactions, my favorite song is in volume 3 it's another teams theme. Can't wait till you get to see them Also a quick reminder without spoils. It's not that Weiss is a perfectionist so much that she comes from "perfect". Growing up her family literally judged her 1:1 with perfect. So we meet her coming from that mindset where that is normal.

The four tracks following the Volume 1 opening, "Red Like Roses", "Mirror Mirror", "From Shadows", and "I Burn" each correspond to one of the four main girls and were played during their trailers. "Red Like Roses" is a bit more generic largely because the Red Trailer was made as a proof of concept for the series itself, so the song is about all four of them. There are multiple versions of "I Burn", as you've seen here. Jeff Williams referred to the bit of the full-length version as "a mistake", as he thought the profanity would be allowed as long as it wasn't in the show itself. This was not caught until after the soundtrack went live, and the song was replaced with an edited version.

Nice to see you enjoyed the songs of RWBY (they are some of the best parts of the series). They are pretty important to the franchise of their connection and symbolism of what they represent to the series and especially to the characters. Alright. Whenever you are gonna watch Volume 2 soon, I think it's important you should also check out something called World of Remnant which puts a lot more information and details on the lore of RWBY. They have episodes each called Dust, Kingdoms, Grimm, and Aura and they were released next to Volume 2. There are more World of Remnant episodes after that but you should wait after watching the next seasons. Problem here is that I find a bit annoying about them are the thumbnails found on youtube to those specific World of Remnant episodes that I find to be major spoiler heavy so I wonder if there is a way you could watch those episodes WITHOUT gazing upon the thumbnails that could spoil anything major. Perhaps you should check the official RWBY wiki where you should type in World of Remnant Wiki and that is where you should find the links there (by scrolling down) that lack the spoiler thumbnails and you could watch them and enjoy them. Yet, you also have the right to decide to not watch them if you don't want to either so the choice is up to you. Just hoping I am giving good advice if you wanna know more about RWBY's lore. Ask me anything else if you wanna know what you should do when watching this series.

Red Like Roses Part 2 is a song between Ruby and her mother Summer. The image that was shown while playing this song is Ruby kneeling at her mother Summer’s grave. The white figure in front of her is a cloaked image of Summer, not Weiss.
