I love Blake’s statement of “she’s not protecting me, and I’m not protecting her. We’re protecting each other.” At the beginning of this volume, Blake acted like she had to try and help protect Yang and do things for her because Yang was hurt in her mind. She’s grown to understand that Yang is stronger than ever and that they can work together to conquer Adam.
@morlock20129 ай бұрын
Right, but more than that, it ties into Yang getting some kind of closure around her search for Raven. It's not stated, but I think Yang was looking for a mother-figure in Raven. She now accepts that's not going to happen, but is pretty vulnerable over it. Equally, she has some resentment around having to look after Ruby when they were both children. So she doesn't want responsibility either. Blake agreeing to be her equal, here, is what Yang now wants. Probably wanted back in V3/4, at least subconsciously, and that's part of why Blake running hurt her so much.

One detail I like in this episode is that after Blake explains Adam's semblance, Yang changes her fighting style slightly to try and prevent Adam from blocking with his sword. She's not 100% successful but I like it shows how she's learned the lessons her dad was teaching her about the best way past an obstacle is sometimes going around it instead of through it.
@wootcat9 ай бұрын
Exactly this. Most other shows would either ignore that fact in the subsequent fighting or they would miraculously be able to avoid the thing that makes the antagonist stronger. Instead we get a realistic situation where Yang does her best to avoid powering the sword, but sometimes, you just have to take the shot where you can take it, or Adam is able to maneuver to cause his sword to be hit.

The implication to Schnee summoning is that only defeated grimm can be summoned, I'm guessing this is because they are a living creature without a soul, hence she cannot summon humans or robots. Even her knight is a grimm, it's one of those Geist grimm we saw RNJR fight at the beginning of Vol 4, except instead of possessing rocks, it possessed one of the giant suits of armour in the Schnee mansion.
@LordoftheSwamp12699 ай бұрын
It's pretty much Grimm that pose the most difficult challenge for them, as seen in the White Trailer, chapter 10 of Volume 1, and chapter 2 of Volume 5
@RyderDunei9 ай бұрын
I actually hadn't thought about why they can only summon Grim, but that makes sense, a semblance is powered by Aura, and Aura is the Soul and it's energy, so the Schnee Semblance could be interpreted as pouring a little bit of your soul into an empty vessel to make it an ally.
@nathanielreik66179 ай бұрын
According to the manga the knight isn't just a single geist but actually an amalgamation of multiple posesion grimm so it is a bit unique that way. Also I don't know if this is confirmed but the way Winter talked about the summons "Now think to your fallen foes! The ones who forced you to push past where you were, and become who you are now." makes me think that they can't just summon any grimm they defeat but specifically the ones who gave them challenges. The Armas Gigas forced Weiss into the hardest fight she'd had so far, the boarbatusk knocked her off her feet and disarmed her and she had to get creative to defeat it, and the Queeen Lancer she threw so many attacks and dust but it took her summon to defeat it (and excluding the paladin from Volume 3 it was the first time Weiss used it in a fight). Winter's summons seem lower level (small nevermores and beowolfs) but maybe she was less well trained before fighting grimm so those gave her difficulty.

I love how Adam is like a dark reflection of Yang. They are warriors fighting for righteous (self-righteous in Adam's case) causes. They get more powerful by absorbing damage. They're strong, passionate... and very troubled. Yang lost her mom, her biological mother left her, and her dad shut down. Because she could only count on herself, she made herself strong to spent her free time picking fights and looking out for her little sister, who looks up to her. Since he was child, Adam suffered insults, beatings, humiliations, and had no one to rely on because the other faunus were "weaklings satisfied to gnaw on scraps and afraid to leave the nest". One day he had enough and decided to face the people who called him and his kind "animals", becoming a symbol of revolution. That's why Blake was insure about Yang at first: she reminded her too much of Adam. She already had trusting issues, but after Yang broke Mercury's leg "in self-defense", Blake was the only teammate who wasn't satisfied until she made her promise that she didn't do it on purpose. Their traumas have affected them greatly. Adam is full of spite because every time he looks in the mirror he remembers what the world did to him, and Yang can't stop shaking every time she remembers that night in Beacon. And Blake's running triggers their abandoment issues, causing them to snap at everyone who mentions her. When Blake rejoins team RWBY, Yang has her doubts because she doesn't believe that she's staying because she wants to, but because she feels guilt or pity for what happened to her. What Blake doesn't see is that Yang isn't angry about losing her arm. What I love the most about the scene when Adam takes off the blindfold is that Blake doesn't seem surprised when she sees his eyes. Adam wore the mask to become the monster humanity took him for. Because he couldn't show his vulnerable side to anyone... and yet, he did show it to Blake. Because they trusted her, and she left something worse than scars: *she left them alone.* In short, Adam is what Yang would have become if she couldn't let go of the past.

It’s incredible how accurately gross Adam’s dialogue is. A lot to say about the actual fighting, some of it better left until next week, but it’s clear Blake’s strategy is to just get Adam away from his sword. And Yang always does a dodge before a quick combo, then backs out again.

I'm not certain, but I believe Adam was brand as property of the Schnee Dust Company(SDC) as a child which sparked his hatred towards humans. After his release or escape(I don't know which) he joined the White Fang and shortly after Siena Khan took over and praised him for his tenacity and eagerness to fight back against the humans that had mistreated the Faunus for so long. This encouragement fueled his way of thinking sending him farther down the dark path he followed. He rose through the ranks and was eventually partnered up with Blake. They did several missions together and became close, until the last mission which we see in the Black trailer where Adam is will to kill the crew members of the cargo train transporting Dust from the SDC. Blake doesn't agree with this and severs the Dust cars from the reas of the train leaving Adam feeling confused and betrayed. And the rest we see unfold in the show.

There is a portion of the community that didn't really like the direction that CRWBY did with Adam. Some of the FNDM think that they turned Adam into more of a stalker into the later volumes and figured that he should have had a bigger villain role (or maybe somehow get redeemed?). Not really sure about the points that they make, because personally... I could see the direction that they took Adam. You could tell from the original black trailer, her explaining Adam to Sun back in V2 and later in V4 & 5. Now, did Monty, Miles, and Kerry have notes about this since the first volumes? Not sure, I would imagine so, don't have access to their volume notes. But they slowly showed the subtle possessive nature that Adam had, even in the black trailer, but his hatred for humans was higher at that time. Which again, is understandable. Having the SDC brand burned onto your face would be traumatizing for anyone to go through. Now, could the CRWBY turned Adam more into a smarter villain with more fights in the future? I mean, with story writing you could try to justify anything. So, yes, they could have tried going in that direction, but it might have lead to more hero sacrifices. Blake's parents dying. Mortal wound to one of the RWBY team. But, the price might have been higher and darker than what the FNDM might have been looking for. But, again, I was fine with the fight between Blake, Yang and Adam on these last few chapters of Volume 6.
@WaywardVet9 ай бұрын
I genuinely don't know how extensive the notes were, but the dedication i've seen post-Monty is something i think he'd be proud of. Even if he had a different plan for Adam, i'm sure he knew someone who knew what a villain a stalker could be and would have loved the idea. Doesn't really fulfill the Beast arc of Beauty and the Beast, which would be a redemption arc. I assume he'd probably have started with that. But i think he'd have been cool with the "no, he's just a beast" arc.

I am all for calling out Adam for his obsession and zealous hatred but he is not some sociopathic crazed lunatic for the fun of it. He's a deeply wounded, deeply tragic character who's lashing out against the world that wronged him in all the wrong ways. I'm not justifying his actions but people seem to forget that the Faunus have been LITERALLY SLAVES for several centuries. Worked to death by the millions to fuel their factories and mines. He has every reason to be hateful and spiteful. Him hating Blake is him feeling betrayed by the first person he trusted now gallivanting around with humans to save the cities built by Faunus for Humans. He's a victim in the same way a Rabid Dog is and unfortunately there's little choice but to put him down.

Fun Facts Fact 1: The title is based off of the nursery rhyme There was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe and refers to Caroline Cordovin. Fact 2: Nora's line "And you said it wasn't beach season!" is a callback to the episode "Argus Limited". Fact 3: Some of the animations in Yang's fight against Adam are from an unused incomplete fight scene between the two that was originally going to be in Volume 3. The test footage of the unused scene was leaked and then later deleted. According to Shane Newville, Monty Oum had been working on a Yang vs. Adam fight scene for Volume 3, using a song by Linkin Park. The leaked test footage features Session, by Linkin Park. The reused and adapted animations include: -In both this episode's fight and the unused Volume 3 scene, Yang starts out kneeling on one knee. -Adam sends out a pair of dark clones of himself, which attack Yang as they appear. Then, the clones attack again, with the second one merging with the one in front of it, followed by Adam merging with the remaining clone while attacking Yang. The animation was the same in the unused Volume 3 scene, but the camera had a different placement. -Adam slashes at Yang and sheathes his sword three times, with the final slash knocking her back. In the unused Volume 3 scene, a long slash mark appears in the wall behind Yang. -Adam creates a pair of clones and runs around Yang with them to disorient her, before stabbing the ground to send an attack toward her. The animation in the unused Volume 3 scene was very similar but not quite identical. Fact 4: The mech fight was the most effects-heavy of the fights this season. Fact 5: Blake has always had the scar on her body since the new outfit, but it has been hard to see until her jacket comes off. Fact 6: Yang hitting Adam with her bike was thought of early on in the scripting process.
