Take a look at the body language of everyone when Ruby is lashing out: - Weiss flinches when someone yells in anger (thanks to Jacque, happens a few times in earlier volumes) - Blake is scared (scared cat ears + right hand grabbing left arm + steps behind Yang) - Yang is ready to go (stern face + steps in front of Blake ready to throw hands to protect her) - Jaune is pissed off and blames her for everything (in response to Ruby calling his protectees "make-believe friends") - Ruby tries not to cry (she knows it's true)

Yang isn't throwing hands though. As a mother myself I recognize that she is going into "Mom mode" (a mode she's used to) in order to stand as a filter between two parties. I had to do this with my two kids several times. She's getting all the impact while giving her the "settle down" face. As for Blake. She flinched not just because she's part cat but because it was a trigger for the abusive behavior she encountered in the past. She has her own set of PTSD aside from Yang's.

Little has been noticing all volume but didn't know what to say Little didn't know Ruby enough... If only ascension could make Little a bit better at helping reach the hearts of others.... ;)

The song that played during the fight is so sad and it describes how Ruby felt. She's right about a few things but it wasn't just her friends that failed to notice. Ozpin should have realized that no matter how resilient Ruby might appear, she's not invincible. I think someone should have talked to her about it being okay to not be perfect all the time. It didn't have to come from Oz, it could have been Blake (like how Weiss talked to Yang back when she was mad at Blake for leaving). It would make sense too since Blake used to be optimistic like Ruby when she was younger 😅

Ruby has been suffering mentally for a bit now. Start's showing up in Vol 8. And it just spirals from there. She is in a deep pit she keeps falling deeper into due to all that has been happening to, remember, is pretty much still just a kid/young adult. She has been putting the world on her shoulders (win or Armageddon happens) and she just does not know what to do anymore. It does not help that the rest of her team are not seeing it happen even though she is showing all of the signs. If you watch all of this Volume, looking at Ruby when she is in the background of shots, you can see her falling more and more. She is in full on "scared to be herself" mode in case, in her mind anyway, screws stuff up again and someone else dies.

Miles Luna did his best voice acting here. Actually both Lindsay and Miles did a phenomenal jobs with that scene. Chapter 8 is going to be a banger. Also remember, Ozpin's lousy advice that planted those seeds of doubt back in Volume 1: “Being a team leader isn't just a title you carry into battle, but a badge you wear constantly." --Ozpin
