They're both going through the rough. Both justified in how they're feeling. Jaune had to live with the guilt of killing Penny and being betrayed by Alyx. He's been alone for so long, I myself and other person that bet wouldn't be able to function but on Ruby's side of things, whenever she's tried to express how she feels, something else comes up that puts her feelings on the backside. She hasn't had any time to process her feelings. They both need major help and therapy.

I’m a huge advocate for mental safety being just as important as physical safety, that’s why I always say in my outro to take care of yourself both physically and mentally, mental pain can hurt just as bad as physical pain, so be sure to take care of both sides of yourself.

Honestly both Ruby and Jaune are correct and for me I kinda sympathize with Jaune a bit more cause you gotta realize this man was alone for atleast a decade before seeing another human only to have that person betray him and then him getting stuck in a time intensive, panic inducing, monotonous schedule for literal decades all of which with out any human contact its amazing that he didn't kill himself and as for his breakdown it actually makes sense in away Neo does hate ruby and did send the Jabbawockers after her and it was her plan that failed even if it was a decent plan it still failed and the moment his friends finally show up after literal decades they don't ask how he is they ask for his help (kinda like the same with ruby actually) and when he kinda go's off the rails a bit the almost immediately call him crazy and get angry at him when he hasn't found away out yet imagine if you see your friends after decades and the first thing they ask is did you find a way out and call you crazy

I do think a lot of this is fair, though i will bring up a couple of counter-points: - Yes, it was Ruby's plan that ended up with them in the Ever After, but everyone all agreed to the plan. Jaune out of all people has the least amount of room to complain, given that he's a leader in the exact same way that Ruby is, with the same level of power to make decisions. - Jaune's actions here, protecting the Paper Pleasers, makes the least amount of logistical sense. Obviously, it's not really about the logic behind things for him, he just needed to be able to protect someone, but the end-goal of "escaping the Ever After" _directly_ contradicts keeping the Pleasers safe. Once RWBYJ got out, he wouldn't have been able to continue protecting them

@@Much_Ado I think your diminishing the fact that He has been ALONE for years, and has trauma too. He has failed to protect everyone in the same way and upon finally meeting his friends they call him crazy and end up getting his villagers killed. So clearly he is in an emotional state and warranted in going off as well as Ruby. She called his only coping mechanism "make believe" diminishing his issues and magnifying her own. That could set anyone off. Stilll its mostly emotion talking, but the man has just been through a lot and trying to come to terms wth it.

@@Much_Ado for Mr it's obvious that the paper people are a coping mechanism for jaune since in his own words he can actually protect them and so it's a way for him to actually feel like he can do something since literally ever other time he has tried to save someone or some thing he failed it is likely if he didn't meet them he probably would have killed him self from the shear isolation, guilt, and betrayal and as for Ruby's plan yes everyone agreed to it but that doesn't mean anything it still failed take for example Gallipoli in our world almost every general agreed that it was a good plan only for it to fail and the man who made it was reprimanded it doesn't matter how many agree it still failed and as for leaving them it is possible jaune would have moved them or maybe even never leave since he felt like he mattered more there than in the real world

I think it makes perfect sense why he'd lash out over being called crazy, and it's totally fair for him to get angry over the "make-believe friends" line. However, while a lot of that stuff is understandable for him to lash out about, I do also think he was overstepping pretty hard in places, which is what I meant to get across. His trauma and circumstances doesn't validate _everything._

The fact that we only have 3 episodes of the volume remaining is amazing to me. I expected this volume to be a straightforward path from point A to point B, kind of like volumes 4 and 6 were. Something to note about Jaune. There used to be fur traders who worked out in the north american wilderness for months at a time without human interaction. When the returned to society they had become "unsocialized" they were known to rant, yell at people, get angry out of nowhere and with no provocation. Now thats for months without any trauma before they left. Imagine spending literal years among non-humans who deify you. Youd be functionally alone. Trying to work through all your issues- slowly going insane and knowing that youre going insane. Then the only company you had all that time the paper pleasers ALL die, and youre left with people who were once your friends, however they call you crazy and seem to completely playdown and ignore what you have been through. I feel like Jaune was totally justified in getting angry at Ruby. It doesnt mean that Ruby didnt have good reasons to lash out too. Just saying that Jaune is going through some pretty extreme shit xD

The best part of this episode is the fact that I really struggle to take a side on it. Like, everyone is so right, and so wrong at the same time, and its just processing stuff that they've shoved down for so long it's gonna be brutal to heal that. And now with episode 8, I'm just so tired. God, I love this volume, its been so GOOD! Hope you're hanging in there! This is gonna be a Looooong week LOL.

The thing for me is that Jaune & Ruby ripping each other apart hurts because you *know* that they're close friends. You *know* that they've been each other's emotional anchor at various points and that they understand each other in a subtly different way from the rest of the RWBY/JNPR by dint of being the leaders shouldering the responsibility. And because they're so close in that way, they both know *exactly* how to hurt each other where it matters, even if in their right minds they'd never dream of doing so. Then, when it all becomes too much to handle and the cord snaps... the whiplash cuts into both of them before they can think to hold back, and then it's too late, the damage is done.

It really is a different feel from other series such as Squid Game, Arcane, etc. In terms of tissues needed, Ruby and Jaune's breakdowns were needed. These kids are still that, they don't have time for therapy either. I loved seeing Weiss and Jaune teaming up for a change it was so cool. I honestly shipped them since the beginning and I am loving that aspect. I do miss Pyrrha of course.

Correct they are kids. But this is an issue that takes down adults of any age as well. Sometimes it a stroke or heart attack instead of a breakdown but it can be a breakdown just like Rubies. I know had one.

Both Jaune & Ruby feel insecure about their role as Leaders. Yet they handled it in different ways. Jaune tries protecting a people he does not understand for his own egotistical reasons because of his past trauma, which is preventing them from being who they need to be. Ruby on the other hand just wants to give up, she doesn't feel needed and she feels like an imposter, and at the very worst feels like she'll bring everyone down with her by being around. This is why she had such an intense PTSD panic attack, and felt revolted by Crescent Rose because it represents her self-worth. The weapon represents that responsibility of being a Huntress, hero and protector and she doesn't feel worthy of that title anymore. When Ruby made the comment when suggesting to go to the birthday party "and stop pretending that we know what we're doing." That was directed at herself. Her comment about "Why save anyone if Salem is just going to destroy the world anyway?" was directed at herself, because she feels that her plan caused all this failure. Which doesn't help when Weiss said "we hatched a crazy plan that just made everything worse. It was because of us." Weiss didn't realize that Ruby is currently blaming herself for everything, because she's the leader. Every time Ruby speaks, it's projection. Her getting angry at Blake & Yang. It's not because of them not taking things seriously. It's because Ruby is envious of their happiness, and their support of one another. There's nothing wrong with finding a little bit of happiness in a seemingly hopless situation. Weiss didn't knowingly do anything wrong, and Jaune was just trying to cope. Ruby after saying what Ironwood would've said, this was an opportunity for Ruby to open up, but Jaune had to get back to the village so that was interrupted. Then Weiss saying at the table that "It's obvious that we need someone to guide us" Then Ruby saying something but then getting interrupted again... and again when the village was being flooded, Yang tried to ask if she was okay. Everytime her team tried to talk to her, she either wasn't ready to talk in the moment, or when she was ready she kept getting interrupted. Every. single. time. Even the Herbalist was trying to help her, but the cat interfered. Ruby getting upset at Weiss for saying "we have to find someone to guide us" at the table. Then Ruby saying "why are you asking me?" and "Gotta find someone who isn't going to screw everything up" which was a jab at Ruby role. Blake & Yang's support of each other made her envious, or even jealous. Isolated or forgotten. Jaune's insistence on saving a people that doesn't need to be saved or want his help. A "make believe" problem. And Ruby is being brushed aside for a non-existent issue while at the same time being blamed for not taking it seriously. The song being played during the fight scene is called "Trap Door" A beat A step Is all you need To fight the urge and stay You don't need me anymore No, you don't see me anymore I try my best to leave the floor But I can't get past the door You don't need me anymore No, you don't see me anymore I'm alone in this war I am a trap door So when Jaune blamed Ruby that viserally, it literally broke her heart. because to her, it's absolutely true. She feels like a Trap Door, that will just disappoint everyone and bring them down with her so it would be better if she weren't around. To Blake's credit. She tried to pull a page from Ruby's book of inspiration because she looks up to Ruby. However, Ruby's heart was broken. She didn't feel deserving, and so stopped Blake from continuing, and then ran away. Nobody is wrong here, and there aren't also sides to choose. This was just several very unfortunate circumstances stacked on top of each other which came crashing down like a house of cards. But that's just life. That's just how fragile things are sometimes. That's the Perils of Paper Houses. It's such brilliant writing all around. 👏👏

And now, he can't let anyone else make that decision, because he cant handle the guilt of it, even after all this time. And he claims hes been alone, but he could still have found people to talk to. Ruby reacted like someone with PSTD would unable to fight and she froze up unable to even run away. This is a very good example of PSTD in action but it does not mean the person has PSTD as it might be temporary and PSTD is permanent. This is why no one should ever call a character in a story as having PSTD as most likely they will fight again as it very important the public understand people with PSTD can never fight again they are permanently disabled. You don't get PSTD instantly it only develops a while after a traumatic incident. You can only be diagnosed PSTD and need more than one opinion it is incurable someone who recovers from PSTD was wrongly diagnosed. You might have PSTD I don't know you have not said you have been professionally diagnosed. Us lay people can't diagnose PSTD. I hope not it permanent and disables you for life. I had a horrible bad emotional reaction as I also have broken down like you and Ruby and am officially disabled from depression and anxiety but have not been told it's permanent. Bad enough to get a disability check from Social Security and it very hard to get mental disability but having a professor at Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine doing the diagnosis probably why I got it, I got a clear expert in the field. This episode triggered me as I saw all the claims of PSTD which is used VERY WRONGLY by everyone currently to describe and emotional trauma it trigured me because as amature historian it reminded be of when people with PSTD were sent back into battle to die or shot as cowards. A Dr WHO episode where a british example of that in WWI hit me hard. As someone who is actually disabled from mental illness having people wrongly make everyone think someone suffering a disability can toughen up and go back out and fight and hold down a high stress job emotionally hurts me greatly.

I’ve got a laundry list of comments to share but they need to be done in separate comments. 1st and foremost, I’m glad you are alright after this episode. The first reaction of yours I watched was for episode 6 (then the rest in order) and based on your previous reactions I knew without a doubt this one was gonna hit hard. So again I’m glad you’re ok cause I was definitely concerned going in. Also, as a side note, I almost turned this episode off after seeing the opening disclaimer as I knee-jerk reacted thinking it was done to appease those offended by the theme from the previous episode which would’ve ended this show for me. My relief was massive once we got yo the paper pleaser confession of what they wanted. I tip my hat to all involved for responsibility putting it in as it was surely done so for the “suicide” tangent. Again, happy you’re ok.

Jaune may have the right to be mad, but he's not innocent of what he's accusing Ruby. He lost the relic to Neo twice, no one else thought of cinder when the plan was made, or made a plan for the situation. Also does the group keep forgetting that Ruby is the youngest out of all the others in their school year? She's two years younger than them, and was made leader, and burdened with all the responsibility that came with it, so she needs help

Jaunes Va sells this scene SO hard....Chills, litteral Chills. Rubys breakdown was long overdue because she has a problem dealing with loss. She still talks to her Mom like she is there (While that might be healthy for some, i doubt it is in this circumstance), she never dealt with Phyrras Death, blames herself for Beacon AND Atlas, Pennys Death, Noras condition, Yangs Arm (Even the fact hat Yang only ended up falling into the Ever-after because she took the hit for Ruby)....the list goes on and on and Ruby, being the Leader, blamed herself for a lot of that, never talking to anyone about it....that's why Jaunes words cut so deep, because she knows he's right to a certain extend even if he is just venting like her. I so hope they deal with this in V10 because whith her coming out of the Tree as herself, that problem hasn't changed

Weiss came up with the attack Ironwood plan, with Winter probably. Heck, did Ruby actually contribute much? She did say they would take Penny to the vault, but they HAD to do that. Jaune is gaslighting here, he does deserve to be decked, because that is how guys deal with this level of disagreement, punch it out, work off the hostility, then shake hands.

Must add emotional damage, trauma can cause someone to kill themselves not having PSTD does not mean your not suffering a serious mental conditions. It just that PSTD is the permanent incurable form that renders one unable to fight ever again only 22 percent roughly can get it. As far as I can tell PSTD can't run they only freeze can't even hide in a hole thus why it so fatal on the battlefield.

Wish could edit. One separate topic Ruby extra hard to handle because a lot is her fault to the point of criminal liability in the case of Axis. Many survivors might rightly blame her a great many of the deaths. This is the burden of command your making choices which will kill people who serve under you and you can't be perfect and you will kill people by your errors. Finding a way to keep going and making life and death choices for others especially when you know your sending them to die so more on your side might live is a horrible burden. Although many don't deserve the honors this power over life and death why NCO, Officers and especially flag officers thisGenerals and Admirals and leaders of Governments get so much official respect and a big part is those who know know how massive the stress and guilt can get. Ruby's greatest error in Axis was not accepting some had to die and make choices on that basis and thus even more died than need to. Compounded by Ruby was in effect acting like someone who invaded Axis and was imposing her will over the government. So how to handle comforting someone who knows they did wrong extra special in handling. I think I must find the time for best wording for that as you can't say it's not your fault when the person knows it is.

Jaune critisizes Ruby, yet he was standing there agreeing with pretty much everything she planned. The guy is to blame too, he's also a leader. "The plan Cinder said was way more inventive then she could imagine?" That's not a high bar, tbh. Cinder is not the sharpest tool in the shed. "The plan ruined by Jaune failing to keep track of Oscar?" Jaune fucked up, yes. The same goes for Ren and Nora, JNR were plain stupid during their fight against Neo. But the plan was ruined much earlier - when the gang decided to left one question untouched instead using it and disarming the Lamp.

I mean, most of us already knew that the plan was gonna fail the moment Cinder made her plan. But at the same time, why did they not make a plan B in the situation? Like yeah Ruby is at fault and she already knows that. But Jaune and the others didn't even objected or came up with a backup plan just in case something happen. So in short, it's not only Ruby who reap and sow, it's on all of them for going in without a backup plan. Like really? You let the youngest one make the whole plan while the others just contributed to it without even saying "Oh! Let's make a plan B just in case!"
