Even if your in the snow ❄️ belt, kissing cousins to Canada(I’m sorry if your are), fwd is better with 2 front snow ❄️ tires, not four like Awd that you need. I know this is supposed to be a "High Level" explanation of each drivetrain but AWD can be rear biased as well as front biased. Not all AWD systems work the same. Rally AWD systems are better than generic "Just to say it has AWD" AWD systems and they all perform very differently. I know as a fact that Evo AWD can oversteer instead of understeer in a turn making the argument in this video about AWD having problems from both drivetrains combined moot. The center differential has been the game changer. You can now do RWD drifts in your AWD car. Might be smokier though because you're smoking 4 tires instead of just 2.
@mikeb95693 жыл бұрын
I agree, but can you turn in as fast in your Evo as a Miata? The CV joint has to be relatively restrictive of movement, or am I wrong?
@TriMuXx3 жыл бұрын
@@mikeb9569 actually, it might be able to do so based on how the Evo's AWD system works. The SAWC can slow down the front inside tire and speed up the rear and front outside tires causing a rotation that would not be typical of the CV joint range of motion on an Evo. Thus allowing greater turn in than it should be able to have. Nissan's ATTESSA AWD system is even better than that. So it's highly likely it can. If you try that in an older Evo though, it might not be possible, no.

FWD is not good for snow in terms of traction. Having a light car with winter tires is good in the snow, but FWD does not have more traction, it has less. When you accelerate all the weight goes to the back, so your front wheels break traction more easily. It just understeers when you break traction instead of oversteering. AWD is quicker from a launch, but later when RWD hooks, the RWD is faster, bc AWD loses due to drive train power lose, bc it has to give certain percentage of power to each of two drive trains
@MissingLinkGTRS3 жыл бұрын
That’s not really how that works .. the car is still making the same output it’s just being delivered differently you don’t loose power because it’s AWD it just gets split so a percentage of the power is going to the rear and the other portion of that power and torque is being sent to the front but it doesn’t matter what drivetrain your car uses it’s going to have a difference in power from crank and power to the wheels as with all drivetrains there is a drop in power due to the efficiency of the drivetrain

@@mikeb9569 that’s really more so dependent on the car and suspension set up not as much the drivetrain
@youngrody23863 жыл бұрын
@@MissingLinkGTRS No it really does drop your power alot compared to RWD, a Jeep Trackhawk makes 100 less wheel Horsepower than a Hellcat because it uses its power to make all four wheels turn, More wheels to turn mean there are more moving parts needed to move and that saps power. And it's not that the power being "delivered differently" either, that power you use to move the extra two wheels in front won't translate to the road your on, it's whatever that's left that eventually gets on the road. Selecting what drivetrain is you use is important for dragracing because of this reason, if you want a pure dig monster AWD is more practical but RWD is far superior if the car can break traction properly, and on a strip RWD all day, there is a reason why the Nissan GTRs that can manage low 6s are all RWD.

Front-Wheel-Drive may be easier and cheaper to build, but they don't last as long under continued regular use over a long period of time. And yes, I now a few people dispute this claim. But please. How many vehicles are out there now that are of your particular vehicle? A Front-Wheel Drive vehicle in MOST cases will not last as long. And this is because they are built with a weakened structure in it's design. The Front of the car has too many parts in one place and has all of the vibration of all of the moving parts and the vibration of actual movement on just on part of the vehicle. The structural problem is from the fact that the drive wheels aren't on a solid frame like they are on a Rear-Wheel-Drive vehicle. And that leads to added wear over a shorter period of time.

It just doesn't do as well as AWD on take offs, but does not do as well in control and braking is about the same as FWD. If I didn't feel the need anything I get a flat tire I would have to replace all 4 tires and AWD didn't have so much more maintenance and if it fails it could cost several thousand dollars to fix? I got everything figured out including money. But my parents won’t let me keep it inside, and I’m not keeping a corvette out to let weather wear it down and let stupid kids ruin the pain(my ranger got egged afew weeks ago, luckily it landed in the bed off the paint, would love to kick some ass lol). Anyways, yeah a c5 corvette manual t56 coupe. That’s the dream.
