Heads up I've found lots of sources saying the rockauto (or eBay-aftermarket) rx8 hubs are actually the exact same thickness as OEM NC hubs. The bearings as well. They did measurements of both to compare to make sure they were getting something beefier but apparently not. It sounds like it's a big wild goose chase because everyone's having so much trouble trying to find real factual evidence of the rx8 ones actually being better. I can link the forums I've read they're recent too. '21-late '22. They're having so much trouble providing comparisons to support the idea of them being better that they're starting to think it was a myth.... One of the respected knowledgeable members also pointed out that there's reason to believe the difference isn't with rx8 hubs/bearings but actually it's just genuine NC OEM hub/bearings that are what you want. But again nobody knows for sure other than that to avoid all aftermarket hub/bearings for both the rx8 and the NC. If you want I can get the links to the forums I have them bookmarked. As far as I understand, there's the consensus that the best choice is just plain ol NC ones that are genuine JDM/OEM just because the material strength is better quality. Not that they're thicker. If you have any proof that rx8 bearings n hubs are in fact thicker then let me know! I'd like to know and to pass it on

got my rx8 diff, axles, subframe for 100€ from the junkyard 😅

A bit off topic, but do you know if a rx8 driveshaft would fit in the NC diff? I needed a longer final drive on my rx8 with my swap and opted for a NC diff.
@MitchelYardley Жыл бұрын
Yes it should because my rx8 diff fit my NC driveshaft. So the end part is the same.

A stock nc lsd unit will not hold up to larger stickier tires for long with track use. I’ve worn our one of them and the second one is getting really weak.
@MitchelYardley Жыл бұрын
Haven’t really heard of many breaking the stock LSD unit. I was good on my stock LSD for about a year before I did the swap.
@topsecretmx5142 Жыл бұрын
It’s not that the break it’s that it becomes an open differential the clutches just wear out quickly with large sticky tires. My car has 110k miles and has been on 200tw 255’s on 17x9’s and 17x10’s since 35k miles and I’ve worn out the clutches on two of them my initial unit and the unit that’s in my car now. I’ve done a lot of autocrossing and mountain driving with hairpins which I believe the slow tight corner’s really take a toll eventually it just starts getting loose and won’t lockup like it used to the. It becomes an open diff.
@MitchelYardley Жыл бұрын
I get what you are saying but the stock NC LSDs are tochi fugi torque sensing LSDs which are basically Torsen diffs, so they don’t have clutch packs in them.
@topsecretmx5142 Жыл бұрын
It’s a cone clutch type differential it’s not a gear type like the previous torsen differential and they do wear out. The clutches are also not replaceable

For me to put an rx8 differential with lsd into my Nc Miata do I need to have a 6 speed manual transmission?
@alexront8181 Жыл бұрын
Or can I use my 5 speed transmission?
@MitchelYardley Жыл бұрын
I’m almost certain you can use your 5speed. Everything should still line up.

What final drive options are there in stock rx8 ring and pinions? Did I hear you right that you went from 4.1 to 4.4?
@MitchelYardley Жыл бұрын
Rx8s got either a 4.44 or 4.77. And yes. I went from a 4.1 (stock NC R&p) to a 4.44

Did you end up losing some Top end with this swap? If so, how is the driveability and would this be streetable?
