at this time in 2011 emma roberts was typecast as the girl-next-door in all her movies post-nickelodeon and this was before ahs and scream queens so when this came out it was actually a shock for a lot of people that she was ghostface LOL. horror queen! in a season of ahs she actually gets to play a non-bitch and is the final girl kinda like sidney so its cool to see the duality between killer and final girl with her in the slasher subgenre. your reactions make my week

Jill's last name being Roberts was actually just a coincidence in regards to Emma. It was established in Scream 3 when they were looking into Maureen's past that her maiden name was Roberts.

The fact that this movie didn’t do so well always confused me this movie was just ahead of it’s time. I love this movie a lot and Olivia got fucked up like slash my throat instead what she went through was gruesome like that whole sequence is my favorite part of the movie “Because I’m standing in the closet” like if that were me and someone told me that I’d run out the house. While my other favorite sequence is ironically funny is Jill hurting herself especially when she runs into the picture frame 💀

I find that scene hilarious where Jill injures herself and later attacking Dewey with a bedpan, it's almost what you expect in Scary Movie lol. I love horror films that have a bit of comedy in.

Shit marketing, vaseline on the lens, and it being just a bit too early in its commentary on influencer culture. If it came out in 2014 it would've done well. But then Wes would die of a brain tumor mid-trilogy so maybe it's for the best.

Yeah, the marketing for this movie was HORRENDOUS. If you weren’t a super hardcore Scream fan that was in the online fandom, there was a very good chance you didn’t even know it existed until after it was released. It was definitely ahead of its time. It’s more relevant today than even the newest Scream.

I would of been OK with them looking back after the clear moment and jill escaped instead of her attacking sid with the glass she just picked it up to make us think she is going to attack by showing her grab glass only for the movie to subvert it and have part 2 with her back surviving this film looking for revenge..she earned it plus it would give 4 a reason to exist cause we have a killer survive and we could of made a new trilogy...oh well...jill deserved another film she was entertaining as hell

Btw the reason it took 11 years for another scream to come out was because it was originally just a trilogy ending with scream 3 but this movie came out to comment on the remake era of the 2000’s-2010’s so that’s why this movie talks about remakes a lot.

I would have never guess Jill. All signs pointed to her being “the new Sidney” and the new final girl. I believe that this movie was well before Scream Queens and American Horror story. So at the time I saw it in the theater I’d have never expected it.

The edge you had is the fact is ten years since this movie dropped. So Emma Roberts did many more roles since in which leans into evil-ish characters like this. Those of us who saw this film in the theater didn’t have that advantage. I knew her from Unfabulous and one movie in which see plays an innocent character. So you buy into the narrative that the film is building her up to be the next Sidney so the franchise can keep going passed the legacy characters and there for the reveal is VERY shocking. Also her motives are so ahead of the curve in 2011. Her monologue pretty much foretells of the fame hungry social media cultural that was about to break. And the hell we have been living in since then.

I've NEVER watched a Scream 4 commentary where someone has already seen Emma in Scream Queens and/or American Horror Story, so most people do NOT pick up on her being the killer. It was fascinating to watch it with someone who did and was completely suspicious of her the whole time! Loved it!

The last name Roberts was mentioned in Scream 3! When the characters are researching Maureen we find out her maiden name was Roberts before marrying Neil Prescott. It was just a coincidence that both character and actor had the same last name, haha.

i didn't realize this until rewatching, but in scream one, sidney at some point wears the ghostface outfit and takes the mask off the same way jill does does in her reveal, so i guess that was the remake aspect that should've been predictable at the time

See at the time Emma being cast didn't signal being the killer right off we were thinking she was basically in the role of the new Sidney. So she would be the focus of like a new trilogy so for her to be the killer was a surprise to me and then because she had been the killer in this that is why showing up in Scream Queens and AHS was cool for her but when you look back and know she was in those you can kind of guess like you did that she could possibly be the killer easier than we could at the time. I was usually sus of the people that ended up being the killers at least somewhat in the other films but with Emma I didn't even think twice about being the killer when I was watching it the first time until she took of the mask. I was so focused on her being the new Sidney that it didn't even cross my mind. But looking back they always meant for her to on the surface look that way but when you really look at it the "killer" even though the were attacking her was never really targeting her like Billy did Sidney and Jill doesn't have as much focus or character development in that direction with like a tragic back story and trauma like Sidney's mom dying. All the focus in on Sidney again and that is because Jill is actually the killer targeting her.

Honestly, even tho I think Roman was the best Ghostface (the smartest, most kills and most understandable motive), Jill is defenetly in Top 3. Plus her motive is really interesting, unlike almost all the others she isn’t going for revenge, also she must be really the most brutal and insane killer (she killed or ordered to kill all her friends and her own mom just to be famous and she almost succeeded, now that is crazy).

Emma Roberts was actually always in 'good guy' roles before this movie, so your retroactive suspicion wasn't quite so obvious to the audiences of 2011. ;) That said, even since this movie, I've seen her in some comedies as the lead, so I'm not sure I'd call her a typecast villain. Not even close if we're talking about actors like Jeremy Irons, Michael Ironside, Gary Oldman, and Alan Rickman. (They weren't always villains either, but they're more often that than not)

Both of the cops who get killed, Hoss and Perkins, are actually played by pretty famous actors. As you pointed out, Adam Brody, but the other is played by Anthony Anderson who plays the father in an American sitcom Blackish, hosts a game show here in the US, and has been a lead actor in the original Law and Order.

Not saying murder is a justification because it's not but in this case shows how sad and pathetic women can be, like he said four years of class together and she now finally notices him and is what happens irl. You could know a girl for your whole life and get along with her but after all that time together hanging out from school and playing outside and yet she won't notice you in that way, you could argue well obviously she doesn't see him more because they have been friends their whole lives and yes obviously true but in cases like this they only knew each other for four years at school and that still wasn't enough time for her to notice him and only did when she thought his life was in danger. Moral is I guess to get most women you know to notice you will have to put yourself in danger so she can feel the emotions of losing you and know what it might be like without you, sad to say but with how complicated women make almost everything I can see this actually working if they haven't noticed you by four long years.
