Sorry I don’t have endless funds to fly and drive to concerts. God bless cell phones and people who care to share music. Thank you. The musical gods love Mr. Cooder.

Still probably best concert I’ve ever seen was Ry Cooder at SEC in Glasgow on “Get Rhythm” tour with one of best bands ever, Steve Douglas on sax, Flaco on accordion and Harry Dean Stanton just strolling on stage for his vocal track off the album!! Superb stuff!

I had literally the exact same thought about him and Van. I can think of a few others but one specifically I wanted to mention who shares something rare with Ry is Prince. They don't even have to play their guitar very much at all, it's a certain kind of authority. By the way I'm not really a Prince fan or know much about his music but I did notice that!

I had never heard the closing song before, 99 and 1/2 Won't Do, and it's a great gospel rocker that rolls with power. I will be playing this a lot. If you have trouble getting going in the morning, play this.

Respect , Mr Ry Cooder !

There's all kinds of lists about the 100 best guitarists, or the best whatevers. Ry's on almost all of them, but so what? You simply cannot quantify the art created by great artists. You listen, or see, or read, and you KNOW because it moves you. Ry captures and gives us something that touches people, people from every background. Anitamay040550, thank you for posting this.

Not at all...thank you for posting this. You probably know that Ry Cooder and Paris immediately recalls his great soundtrack to Wim Wenders's Paris, Texas.

Ry played a film score(couple songs), in the 1984 WIM WENDERS film: PARIS, TEXAS. One song in particular which very beautiful is a Mexican (1915) expatriates song titled: CANCION MIXTECA sung by Harry Dean Stanton. Really 👍's up. !

It's no a matter of mastery on playing and singing. No there is a sweet and of course bitter awardness about human condition right now. Roots at his best. The soul cries and laughs . Ry Cooder's music now sounds like a prayer. A giant essential. And we move...

Wonderful. I'm intrigued to see Ry using a thumb-pick. I started using one about 7 months ago...couldn't be heard out on the street - I often wonder how the old time guys could be heard in the same place or in noisy juke joints...I digress. I sincerely hope he comes back some time...I missed this tour, so very greatful for these postings.

The old guys used resonator guitars and/or heavy strings...but maybe people actually listened back then..after all they wouldnt be hearing recorded music all day at work...
@ronaldh84465 жыл бұрын
I found it curious to see him using one as well, particularly on Prodigal Son. His studio version of the song (which is awesome) he's not using one. But live, I suppose, gives him a lift with the other musicians onstage with him. Saw him in NYC on this tour. Been waiting 30 years to see him live. It was special.
@TheClemcaster4 жыл бұрын
@@wingandaprayer I think that it's certainly true that if you wanted music way back when, you'd need someone to come and play...people would certainly be more attentive under those circumstances. there's music every damn where now. It's lost it's value in many ways...you can't move for bands - don't get me going - when I started in '77, even then, being a musician was a bit of a novelty. Having said that, guitarists as good as Ry Cooder are still at a premium.

Horrible picture and worse sound. I'm sure Ry and the band were really chuffed to have your phone in their faces throughout this performance and now your unauthorized footage of their gig up on KZbin. I saw this tour and, as always with Ry, it was a deeply spiritual experience. Please put your phone down so you're not distracting and irritating the performers and the ticket buying audience around you so that everyone can share a special moment together, because that's the whole point! Let's ban all phones at gigs and let the professionals shoot, record and distribute the artist's material appropriately. Just sayin'.
