This version of ryan adams is so good... And it also shows Taylor's song writing skills

Agreed. Ryan’s versions was what made me a fan of Taylor’s and made me look at her as a songwriter.

@@timvanboening9432 What most people miss about words in a song, people like Elton John or Ryan and a few others are soooooo goood at arranging the music the words almost become overpowered, now if they are really, really good, then thats a bonus. For instance, in Daniel (my brother) Elton tore out the last stage of verses from Bernie's song and said we have the hook, its too long. Well, the song is kind of a mystery, it seems its about a loved brother who has died. I think the last stanza probably told us that. Eltons music usually ma de the song, Ryan can write and arrange. Thats why Elton loved him when he bought his album back in 2001 per chance. Lyrics are not as important as arrangement, just listen to some of this poppy shyt that sells now, lol. Its the BEAT they love.

Hell of a job on this re working of the album... every track a masterpiece

It isnt a reworking , he handed this and as far as I know, every cut on 1989 already prearranged melodically to Swift and EVERY LYRIC ON THE ALBUM IS MINE

Eva Cassidy, the queen of cover music, once called herself an "interpreter." This is Ryan Adams' interpretation of "Blank Space" and it's beautiful.

I literally had NO IDEA this was a cover until reading these comments. And having been born and raised on the Ryan Adams version (haha), I could never to the Taylor Swift version. Ryan Adams is so talented and I'm completely obsessed with his voice and the way he strings the lyrics together. It's just so beautiful.

I heard this version and soundhounded it and it came back as Ryan Adan’s. I was trying to play it one night and got called out for being a swiftie. Had never even heard a swift song before. I laughed about it but still play this version, poorly, with no shame. 🤣😂

Wow. The mark of a truly good cover is a complete transformation of the original, which this achieves. Nice folksy rendition!
@kyledieterich50208 жыл бұрын
He's pretty much the king of doing that. Wasted Years is another good one. Wonderwall. The list goes on. Sometimes I feel like he's covering some of his old stuff to put it in a slightly different light nowadays, if that even makes sense.

Crackpot Scientist the great soul singer Bettye Lavette has been doing "covers" like this for decades now, calling them "interpretations" instead. In the late 90s, she released I've Got My Own Hell To Raise, where she covered exclusively female artists---ranging from Dolly Parton to Fiona Apple---albeit in her bluesy, soul style. She eventually released the British Songbook, doing the same for anyone from Led Zeppelin to Pink Floyd to Elton John to not only the Beatles, but a song from each of their solo careers, too!

Taylor says her version is tongue in cheek. That is, she isn't really claiming to have a long list of ex-lovers who think she's insane. But with Ryan you get the feeling he's being sincere. Maybe that's why his version Is slow and heartfelt.
@thesolitaryadventurer Жыл бұрын
It's an age thing really, I would think. When Taylor wrote it, it's tongue in cheek that she could have the long list at such an age. But for Ryan, it is possible so he interprets the song more earnestly. Love both versions. I often listen to his and her versions of the whole 1989 album interspersed. Stellar songs and stellar rearrangements/covers.

New money, suit and tie I can read you like a magazine Ain't it funny, rumors fly? And I know you heard about me So hey, let's be friends Dying to see how this one ends Grab your passport and my hand So it's gonna be forever Or it's gonna go down in flames You can tell me when it's over If the high was worth the pain Got a long list of ex-lovers They'll tell you I'm insane 'Cause you know I love the players And you love the game So goddamn reckless We'll take this way too far It'll leave you breathless Or with a nasty scar Got a long list of ex-lovers They'll tell you I'm insane But I've got a blank space, baby And I'll write your name Cherry lips, crystal skies I could show you incredible things Stolen kisses, pretty lies I'm your king and you're my queen Find out what you want Be that girl for a month Wait, the worst is yet to come Screaming, crying, perfect storms I can make all the tables turn Rose gardens filled with thorns Keep you second-guessing like "Oh my God, who is she?" I get drunk on jealousy But you'll come back each time you leave So it's gonna be forever Or it's gonna go down in flames You can tell me when it's over If the high was worth the pain Got a long list of ex-lovers They'll tell you I'm insane 'Cause you know I love the players And you love the game So goddamn reckless We'll take this way too far It'll leave you breathless Or with a nasty scar Got a long list of ex-lovers They'll tell you I'm insane But I've got a blank space, baby And I'll write your name I'll write your name I'll write your name I'll write your name
