You suit up for everyone and you’re saying I am here to fight for you for us. Every man on the team did that for him and he did not do the same for them. It is the equivalent of a soldier suiting up to take the battlefield with his squad and when the roll out and he is called upon to take positions and fight he says I am not fight not only he is not fighting but he is driving back to the base. That soldier would be court marshaled for that because he could have or did cost lives. With this he could have cost injuries. Possible cost the team their playoff hope or chance. I knew how much it would hurt that game, and knew he’d be gone the following season most likely as well. His replacement, Campbell, has been brutal majority of the season. Along with J’ayir brown, they’ve been two of the consistent weak links on the defense. Hufanga and Greenlaw comeback yesterday, and all of a sudden they look like the dominant niner defense I’ve been used to seeing. Second half comes, Greenlaw is out. Matt Milano just returned for the Bills, and even though Dorian Williams has played at a high level in his spot, he knew the deal and has been professional about it. If a young player can be an adult about it, so can a 31 year old veteran!

If a player feels disrespected or sidelined, does quitting mid-game reflect poorly on their character, or does it expose deeper issues within the team’s leadership and culture?
@christophertom5552Ай бұрын
It depends on the situation. In this case, the niners haven't been doing well this year and the defense hasn't been as good as previous years. He was being replaced in the starting line up by Dre Greenlaw, who is an integral part of the D, to try to energize the unit. I didn't think this was disrespectful. Being a one year rental, you know what your getting yourself into. But it's not just doing well in stats, but also proving to your teammates why you being there, not stepping up like this will definitely not look good, and they be talking to others in the league about it

Aside from Campbell “not balling out” the thing that makes the refusal that much more wild is you know there is zero possibility he wasn’t told the deal from the get go. We’ve seen numerous guys through history that are wearing gold jackets/could have gold jackets not even get a call after a point. So glad Bart was on today - such a great perspective to add context
@BostonBori92Ай бұрын
It was an uneccasry perspective nobody cares about how Campbell feels...Someone on his team lost a child and they played and I'm 1000 percent sure if they asked that player to take a seat for another player he would no question for the betterment of the team It's about the group not the individual Barts perspective is focused on the person feelings and justifying it that way do the feelings of the players not matter?
@dominicksans7204Ай бұрын
All that context does not matter, when you suit up to play it is no longer about you or me it is about the team, the man on your left and your right. It is about being there for them and playing till the last snap. If he felt like this don’t suit up. But once you do and take the field you are there to help you in anyway possible. He knew he was not going to start he knew from the time he signed contract he was a place holder. So should not be surprised last night that he was not starting. Look at all his teammates they feel betrayed. Nothing to say about this.

Productivity may breed tolerance, but the level of productivity a player would need to have to overcome this would be Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu or LT type productivity. You can’t just be _good_ to overcome this. You need to be putting up HoF type numbers.

I think some team will give him a chance. It's something going on behind the scenes!
@dominicksans7204Ай бұрын
I hope they do not for at least a year. Think about it. You work everyday and you got all sorts of personal struggles or difficulties personal and otherwise. But you show up and suit up to play. And now your team mate suited up and told you the same thing. I got your back I am here to play. That’s what you do when you suit up. And then to not take the field when called upon you’d feel you you were left hanging as well.
@GreilMerc7Ай бұрын
The only solace I take from Greenie’s Bears jab is that as bad as they have been it could be worse. He’s right about it marking this growing losing streak. I’ve been saying for years now that Kyle Shanahan was extended overrated, and was one of the most overrated coaches in NFL history. And I’m not saying he’s bad, more so that’s he just an average coach. When he has, by far, the best roster in the league he can go far in the playoffs, just like 15-20 other coaches in the NFL would, except at least 10 of them would actually win the superbowl, unlike Kyle. But as soon as Kyle hits a bit of adversity his team just falls apart. As soon he has a couple of injuries (which EVERY team has) he compounds the issues by overplaying everyone else, and then gets everyone else injured too. Anyone else ever notice that as soon as Kyle has a couple of injuries, all of a sudden everyone on team gets injured? That’s on him, and the staff he hires.
