It has been absolutely donkey's years since we did a watch collection review video, so why not bring it back with something long over due? Today we take a look at a killer 3 piece collection from a movie star turned style icon. We are, of course, talking about the highly talented Ryan Gosling and his affinity for two of my favorite brands, Rolex and Casio. Beyond watches, Gosling is a style trendsetter and an excellent role model for young men today. In today’s video I discuss how and why his watch game is so on point, as well as take a look at some very iconic watches he has worn both on and off screen. We’ll walk through the entire some of his most memorable watches, from the legendary Omega Speedmaster he wore playing Neil Armstrong to a Rolex Submariner 16610 in a humorous role as a dapper womanizer, and finally a dodgy Patek in an extremely cool gangster flick. Perhaps, the coolest has to be his own personal collection which includes a very overlooked vintage Rolex Air King 6552, and one of my favorite Casios, the tremendously fun A168WA-1. Join me as I share why he is maybe the most famous, true watch enthusiast of his generation and worthy of respect from us watch fans.

@@theurbangentry Hey, i wanted to thank you for introducing me to watches and the hobby of collecting these tiny liddle treasures. I am from Germany and went to school there to become a mechanical engineering technician. For my graduation i wanted to buy a watch and went right on the internet to see what brands exist and read the tests about them. Your channel popped up and you reviewed the brands i was interested in. After quite a while i decided to go with a Junghans Max Bill Automatic, since i come from an engineering background i wanted a mechanical watch to celebrate my graduation, also the fact that Junghans is a respected german company made me want to buy one. This watch means alot to me, its the embodiment of my technical knowhow and my new job as an project engineer. I connect my success to it and my drive to achive my goal. BUT i never wanted to brag with a watch, it should mean something to me and for the trained eye of other people it should be a statment for simplistic design and beauty. I hope you enjoyed my story, for me it was important to tell you that. Your videos inspired me to dive head first into this hobby. Best regards from Germany I realy enjoy watching your videos, you have a new follower. This was a repost, i want just want you to know my story, wealth and material belongings are one think, inspiring others is more achivemend then any of those listed things.

This is so cool. If you see these watches (air king, bubble back, a168 etc.) on a random table, you would know its a collection of one particular person. He has his own taste and prefer to stick to it rather than going for watches that are in the trend.

TGV, you are so damn correct with those words about people wearing big CLOCKS on their wrists... I cannot get it when someone say that 36mm watch will look silly on his big wrist... it is just so dumb... no one few decades would say that... because back then, watches were not like fashion case, watches were every day care for people, they had to be really comfortable and also, smaller watch even makes your forearms look sexier, wider and it is not saying: "LOOK I HAVE A WATCH, IM SO INTO FASHION AND IM SO GORGEOUS"... back when watches were your friends, not just accessories.
@wc7484

The driver's has a special meaning. In the book that the movie drive is based off on. The author says that the watch used to belong to his father and that it's basically the only thing he owns that has a connection to his past. I guess it makes sense why it's weird for a getaway driver /stunt driver/ mechanic to wear instead of something more robust.

It is nice that some visible people still have style. Mr. Gosling should keep wearing whatever he likes and not give a crap about what anyone else thinks, because that is what everyone should do. Fashion is for those who want to be hurdled.

I think it’s cute you made an unabashed fanboy tribute on your man crush. I think he kicks ass. Then again, I’m no fan of Rolex either. Cheers.

A pleasure as always, thank you Sandy. Hmmm, interesting question. My immediate answer would be why the hell not! Anything used to improve fitness is always gentlemanly! Fitness is so important, I say go for it! I am somewhat old school and just use a G-shock to time my cardio. I have on occasion worn my Subby on the other wrist to keep track of a second timezone while I jog/bike. I even used the dive time bezel for a back up timer. Wear your Rolex and double it with a tracker, you have the best of both worlds! Best regards, TGV

Love the channel but you say rolex and I switch off. Utterly sick of hearing the name. I realise it's a review of a collection but that's were I am with that brand. Never innovated and just used everyone else's ideas but made them mentionably expensive. Just taking a basic date watch with a bezel and charging 8ķ does nothing for me. I would genuinely prefer a timex day date from the 70s. At least they were innovative in making a cheap hardy watches with complications. I have some huerers and my El primero and some micro brands. Paiste bubble is a favourite at the moment. Check them out.

The time-period for a movie defines which watches are worn, can't wear a Rolex SeaDweller in a WW II movie. Moreover many actors are sponsored to wear certain wristwatch makes. To find out about his actual wristwatches, "private" off-filmset photos or TV-footage (talk shows) would be a better source to get an idea of his real taste...

@8:47 you mention how "Ryan knows how to wear a watch" but he's wearing the calculator watch upside down.😂 Or maybe I'm wrong about which casio it is.

It was so that the students in the class could use it without his having to take it off. Sounded good, anyway.

I'm curious; the video says Gosling owns the A168W, which is the "metallic" version of the F91W. But that's not quite accurate, since the A168W is actually the metallic version of the F105W, which has an electroluminescent light rather than the weak LED of the F91W. I mention it because I just ordered a F105W precisely for the better light, and it seems like a really obvious error. And I seem to remember that TGV owns the A158W, which is the metallic version of the F91W, not the A168W... (I have no idea if there are any other significant differences, but as I said, the light makes a visible difference to me.)

The A163w1QEs and A164w1ves are also metallic versions of the f91w in my eyes just with slight rearrangements of wording. The A158w also does not have the same text layout as the F91w. Definitely agreed the A168w is a whole different bigger and thicker watch regardless with its electroluminescen light which all f91w metal variants do not have

He should wear a Rolex Explorer II. But not the current one. The 16570 (2011) would fit perfectly!

You didn’t think the Patek being fake was intentional to his character being a stunt double in Hollywood?

Gosling's next piece should be the manual wind Omega Speedy on Hesalite for his casual Sunday.... and perhaps a JLC Reverso for his black tie functions

I must say. I haven’t seen a 6552 with the 369 configuration. But have seen it on 1958 5500’s. Is that why everyone thinks it’s a 5500? I own a 5500 369 & it’s identical to his watch. 🤔

I have fallen in love with a mid size (for me that's 38mm) all gold watch on a dark brown leather strap (especially alligator). So classy but casual too and not as ubiquitous as a steel case and black face on a leather
