From "The Office": an American television mockumentary sitcom broadcast on NBC. Created as an adaptation by Greg Daniels of the British series of the same name, it is a mockumentary that follows the day-to-day lives of the employees of the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of Dunder Mifflin, a fictional paper supply company. When you think about it, Ryan is actually Toby 2.0. What I mean by that is that Ryan's life eventually becomes just as if not more miserable than Toby's in every aspect. The only difference between the two of them is that Ryan actually tasted success.

Interesting. I feel like they are completely different. I feel Toby was actually a nice, friendly person and his only problem was being boring, but was slowly crushed by his soul-destroying job and colleagues like Michael who actively hated him. Ryan is someone who is the epitome of an entitled hipster wannabe and was brought up to think he was amazing and wonderful and would be super successful, but he was in fact just arrogant, morally bankrupt, and way less intelligent than he thought he was. It’s why he wouldn’t stay away from Kelly, he despised her but she was the only person delusional enough to see him the way he saw himself. I feel sorry for Toby. He just needed to find some other boring, nice people to be around. Ryan ended up deserving everything he got and still didn’t learn anything from it.

No. Toby has bad luck in life and zero self-esteem. Ryan started as a normal intern but sadly he learned nothing in this period, got a job he couldn't handle, got hooked on drugs and was never the same again. Toby is very docile, Ryan is a snake in the grass.
